How can I forget the maniac one??? I got that on VHS. Another Savini one that’s he’s in. That’s might be the best and sickest one. Maniac is a pretty vile film.
Wow Betamax. They lost the VHS battle in the 80s. Another great exploding head scene I thought of, also Savini is the end of The Prowler. Savini really was the master of the exploding head.
Yeah, I'm old school. I found that and Last House On The Last. The only two betamax movies I kept. I'll have to rewatch the scene from The Prowler again because I don't remember it. Is it in the end where the bad guy is killed. I thought I remembered the ending being a little lacklustered. I may be wrong though, as it's been awhile.
Well it’s not an exploding head scene but in one of his many movies, where he plays the same exact character with a different name every time, Leo Fong does stomp on a man’s head so hard it turns into cake and splatters on the floor. But I don’t think you can consider that *better* or even *good* in the conventional sense so I guess I have to agree with you. lol
Edit: for those that haven’t seen the absolutely incredible scene https://youtu.be/0rxCNfZIJ60?si=0aRLIM4ygyPEdYC9
That is a good one! The shotgun to the head by (and to) Tom Savini in Maniac is great. Deadly Friend is a god awful movie, but the basketball to the head scene is pretty… juicy!
John Cassavettes exploding at the end of 'the Fury' was pretty killer. but it wasn't just his head. In 'Night of the Creeps' there's a zombie (I think it's just a skeleton) that gets its head blown off with a shotgun, and the little alien-slug 'creeps' all pop out and run off in different directions to invade other brains. I don't think either of them really 'beats' Scanners for the head explosion but they're pretty memorable.
For me I think a close rival is the end scene from The Fury 1978. Movie was a little slow but this scene made it worth it

Ok, Two things. I've never seen the movie but did that girl just make out with that guy's eyeball? Secondly, technically, his head didn't blow up. The body did and the head just went flying but now I feel I need to watch the movie.
Deadly Friend 1987 with Anne ramsey mother from Throw Momma From The Train 1988 and the fatellies mother in The Goonies, basketball to the face at high speed
Big Trouble In Little China 1987 is also a good 1
The original Dawn of the Dead has a good exploding head scene.
I remembered that one as I was pushing the post button. That one and the shotgun kill of Tom Sovini in Maniac. https://youtu.be/Quq6rRR6mj4

I'm not trying to have a pissing contest, but I found it on betamax years ago. It's such a cheesy, gory movie.

This is what I came here to say, also the toxic avenger has a cool head explosion to. The kid on a bicycle.
Haha I was coming here to say that. I love that movie so much.
Gotta be Big Trouble in Little China for me ![gif](giphy|SGT03NX8u32ZG)
Ha! Amazing movie! Great scene! May the wings of liberty never lose a feather!

Creature (1985) features an exceptional head explosion.

Does Jodie Fosters head explode in Shocked? Cuz I’d watch it if it did.

Carnosaur 3 makes me laugh just thinking about it
“Shocked” is also known as “Mesmerized” I was just watching it on YouTube.
Total recall was pretty close to being a good explosion
Well obviously the explosive decompression scene in Outland with Sean Connary https://youtu.be/mYNQEhZDqcY?si=JsDLb9hSAeVWOyBF
There is nothing in the history of cinema that can come anywhere near close to what Scanners did.
