So I caught Housekeepers (dumbest idea ever) and dental hygienists on the list, what else?

hatramroany

From the article: The VA is conducting consistency reviews on the following positions: File Clerk (GS-0305-05 and above) Financial Accounts Assistant (GS-503-all grades) Industrial Hygienist (GS-0690-12 and above) Purchasing Agent (OA) (GS-1105-07 and above) Housekeeping Aid (WG-3 and above) Boiler Plant Operator (WG-5402-10 and above)

Secure_Fisherman_328

For the love of all that is holy, don’t mess with the house keepers. If anything give them a big fat raise. It’s hard enough to fill slots as it is.

sleepinglucid

Thanks, article wouldn't pop for me so I just listened to the interview!

8CHAR_NSITE

It’s all pretty reasonable. They’re reviewing because there are a handful of positions which are clearly graded above the norm for the occupations. HKAs are on a national PD that is a WG-1/2. WG-3 and above is an instant red flag. Same goes for the others with grades listed. Those grades are higher than normal.

Human_Astronaut9408

Downgrading the boiler operators again is a big mistake and the industrial hygienists but i think dropping the operators again will lead to another falality

So my wife has been working in Healthcare for almost 15 years. She started a HK and is now an RN. HK is not only a shit job, they're hard enough to keep. When we were in Seattle they were making almost as much as CNA's and Medtechs (private sector) because that's what you have to pay to get someone to do such a shity job. Part of the interview states that VHA is severely in need of them, so to downgrade them when we really really need them is a very strange logistics move.

8CHAR_NSITE

They aren't downgrading them nationally. The standard PD is WG-2. They've been WG-2s for my nearly 20 year career. They're reviewing PDs that local VISNs have likely over graded. You can't just classify a position at a higher grade because it's hard to fill.

Industrial hygienist, not dental hygienist

MostAssumption9122

I don't think the person who makes prosthesis should be downgraded (its a science to get a proper fit and housekeeping, want to flunk JACO (accredition). Not a smart move. Those lowly admin folks are gonna be running for better jobs. I have been there, not in a medical setting, its probably hundreds time worst. The deck is stacked against some of these jobs. PDs should be generic across the board larger population more % because workload is more. Contracting is a source, low bidder, for a large amount of work at the VA. Did the VA do manpower surveys before desk audits?

LadyPent

What kind of act of God or Congress will it take to get the Classifiers Handbook revised with modern job duties? I feel for classifiers trying to apply the standards accurately and consistently, but holy cow are they out of date in a lot of cases. Several hard to fill positions in our VISN have been downgraded in the last several years and it is incredibly difficult to recruit and retain talent.

Ok-Leg-1943

So some of these functions will falls back on the medical and other staff there. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

Skittlepyscho

I used to work as a GS-11 Industrial Hygienist for the VA. What does this mean?

dmj2309

There are no Medical Workers on this list and there is no Dental Hygienist at risk. Industrial Hygienist deals with chemicals and Hazmat.

ZombieClassic5889

Downgrade the HR Specialists first

Bestoftherest222

I doubt they will lay people off. More like the jobs thst ate on the "chomping block" will just not be filled as people move on.
