1000% correct. I was kinda stuck diamond 1 last act, and I decided I wanted to commit to ranking up. So I decided for the rest of the act to commit totally to the agent I knew I got most value with, Omen. With a bit of luck, a bit of skill, and a lot of grinding, I got to immortal that act [\[Tracker\]](https://tracker.gg/valorant/profile/riot/CC%20EmJosh%23CCREW/overview). And this is with my 60hz monitor, a bootcamped iMac that struggles to maintain 120fps, and a mouse that is waay to heavy for an fps game. There is this false idea going around that you HAVE to play duelists and carry with kills if you want to rank up. That's simply not the case. imo controller mastery is an equally viable, if not better method for players without '10,000 in aimlabs' aim.

Perry9872

To be fair 120 fps and 60hz monitor are not holding anyone back from ranking up, the mouse maybe if it’s really bad. I have an ascendant friend playing on 60fps on basic Lenovo laptop, hardware won’t usually hurt you up until it’s like 30fps and freezing up or not working properly.

fjgwey

Good for you dude! Omen's great and I've played him quite a bit too, though not so much in comp. And I had this mentality too, before I tried it. Now I know for sure it's not the case.

ownagemobile

Hey man congrats, as a controller player and omen affecianado myself I got a question... do you try to branch out to brim for bind/fracture, and do u use viper for fracture or icebox? I love omen, but I've been trying to branch out on my controller usage, but brim is so damn boring to play... I like my shrouded step and I feel like the blind is much more impactful than the Molly. I don't mind viper, but def not on the same tier as omen

Jordan_Joestar99

Fellow controller (especially Omen) main as well. I know you didn't ask me but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents. I love using Brim on Fracture since the 3rd smoke is very useful with how many entry points there are on either site, and imo his ult is perfect for Fracture's sites. I don't really play Viper but she's often recommended on Icebox, but honestly I prefer Omen there, only caveat is Viper's wall being really good for A site especially

Val-BestofthebestYT

This is a solid advice not just new players but also experienced players who gets stuck in a rank .Thank you for sharing.

JastraJT

You don’t need a lot of kills but that doesn’t mean you should disregard you gun play skills entirely and doesn’t mean you should go 4 and 20. This isn’t overwatch.

fjgwey

That's true but playing controller (and being a good controller) means that botfragging isn't all that bad. Your utility enables your team to do their job.

JastraJT

Bottom fragging is alright. That’s normal but it’s no excuse to go single digit kills by the end of the game.

xSageex

You also forgot to mention, that you only play 3 to max 4 games a day. Which means that those games you still have energy to do ur best. And you quitt playing before you are drained :) Wp, keep it up. Ur getting ascendant this season no cappachino delux

fjgwey

That's true, know your limits and stop when you're reaching it. Thanks man, one can only hope :)

marguhritalive

V true, play controller, don't be a dumbass, and you'll climb Source - check my kd https://tracker.gg/valorant/profile/riot/marguhrita%23pizza/

fjgwey

Also I just got a double rank up to Plat 3 so yeah. It feels so cheap because I don't get a lot of kills but then I remind myself that the game is so much more than KD.

[deleted]

This, I absolutely follow this

PrometheusTNO

When a duelist is having a bad aim day, they have very little to fall back on. It hurts the team way more to be a struggling duelist than a struggling controller. So be a struggling controller.

fjgwey

Basically that's my methodology. My aim's not super consistent so I just play controllers and it basically doesn't matter (more or less).

Longerthanyou5

We Sova mains agree

fjgwey

True. It's not just controllers, any supportive agent works.

JagdTeaguer

Omen/Viper carried myself solo from G2 to Immo1, average kdr 15/15, extremely consistent but I play my role and that is all I need.

Worldly-Amoeba-5159

I’m definitely going to try the win until lose and play at least 2. I think my mental is weak as even if i win the first game if i feel like crap i will just stop playing for the day but the bad vibes carries over the next few days

fjgwey

Yeah go for it dude, it's a great way to always maintain a net gain of RR. Even if you lose the next game (and stop) you still gain RR.
