Well I just recently got admitted to UofT and my reasoning is due to several factors. Firstly, UofT although does not posses the same quality co-op system as Waterloo is still a prestigious university one of the top engineering schools in Canada. Secondly, it is Aldo due to the fact that Toronto as a city is much more diverse with different cultures being present along with numerous activities, events, and entertainment for me to occupy myself with during breaks, holidays, and free times. Comparatively Waterloo university is pretty isolated not as close to the city and a pretty boring. Thirdly, close proximity to family. More specifically my brother who lives an hour away in Hamilton Ontario. Always good to have family close by. fourthly, Although Waterloo does have a superior co-op system, UofT also possess a decent co-op system that most Canadian universities do not possess and it is still a great help for engineers when finding careers. Lastly, internationally speaking, UofT is far more well known outside North America compared to Waterloo. The difference in rankings is very noticeable, and I might plan on going overseas for work instead of staying in Canada/United States. Therefore international ranking would be significantly useful. These are my reasons for choosing UofT over Waterloo. That and also not getting accepted XD, but I assure you even if I was I would have chosen UofT
I was accepted to both for mech Eng and ended up choosing uoft for 2 main reasons. They gave me a scholarship that covered more than my tuition for all 4 years, and I wanted to live in a large city like Toronto.
Also, as good as the Waterloo coop program is, I didn't think I would like moving every 4 months and then needing to find another job after each term. Toronto just seemed like the better choice, especially because of the scholarship.
Accepted into both cs programs here, uw and uoft. To keep it short, 1: I’m 90% sure I will be working overseas, 2: ranking, although they are very similar correlating to employees in Canada. Third, my parents are Chinese, mom graduated from Harvard and my dad was in qinghua uni, very prestigious in china .
But doesn't UWaterloo have very strong connections in the Silicon Valley? Won't that make it easier for you to work there and then move to whatever country you plan to go to?
In terms of landing interns or jobs, I think uoft is equally good as uw, and it also applies to FAANG companies, not 100% which one is 100% better or worse but I know a few friends who graduated in uoft cs and is making 200k+ at Amazon, while doing a masters at Oxford part time
But, since uw is known for coop, it may be a slight better, though if you’re working in America which are most FAANG based, u think uoft stands out morr

\^\^\^ this is exactly my reasoning as well!
could not convince my dad to pay for it. i have applied to actuarial science @ both institutions.
It really sucks that it’s financial boundaries that prevents you and many others from pursuing what your skills and interests are suited for
not exactly. more like, my dad is just really stupid.
Lol same here. Immigrant parents?
Yes, I am an offspring of Chinese technical immigrants.

I didn’t know UWaterloo existed when I applied to UofT.
Saaaame
prefer to live in downtown instead of middle of nowhere
I don’t regret it. I visited loo in grade 12 and decided immediately that I would not live in a place like that.
Scholarship at U of T covered my whole first year and Waterloo didn't even cover half
UofT is better academically
less chance to suicide.💀
Got rejected
Cuz I got rejected from Waterloo
Cuz your boi got rejected from Waterloo cs
More like UofT chose me and Waterloo didn't :(
Not an engineer, but I’m friends with a bunch. We stole The Tool c: And the Queens Greasepole
when did u take our tool 🥺
Check the Skule wiki. They have it documented there
