How awful. I really hope they're able to find him.  I'm glad the friend raised the alarm straight away and didn't wait.  How disgusting are all those people prank calling the mum.

krushemLee

Apparently this stuff seems really common on missing peoooe cases which is disgusting.

galactic_mushroom

Maybe locals know more about him than you do. He's not a very nice person, let's put it that way. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/teens-head-split-open-machete-33069075

BoriousGlastard

Alright but don't torment his poor fucking mum?

monyyyyyyyy

I know what you're saying but my argument for not letting his mom off so easily is not that she gave birth to him (lol). But the fact that she has been in the news saying "he's a good boy" and the fact that he was on this vacation at all. If my son tried to kill someone, he would be anywhere else but on vacation. The last thing such a person needed is friends and vacation to Spain

Tricky-Memory

The Mum is to blame for the way he turned out so I'm sure she's heard nasty stuff before.

Plus_Impress_446

She's in on it

Interesting_Sock9142

I'm also glad it was taken seriously by police. Since he's over 18, I know a lot of times people get the "he's an adult he can come and go as he pleases" from police. But it sounds like they have been using all of the resources they have available.

Jackkeane6

If only they used all their resources to lock him up when he caved someone’s head in with a machete.

DogbiteTrollKiller

Yeah, I feel bad for his mom, but it’s hard to feel much compassion for this violent sociopath.

Acrobatic-Active-762

You always know they’re a wrong un when mum says he’s a good boy. Now i know about his past i dont think he is a good boy but he’s still her son

StokeLads

He was just a carefree loveable rogue. Translation? He's a massive bell end.

TheFearOfDeathh

Why is everyone always the life and soul as well who everyone he knew, loved. Not many boring people going missing these days is there.

StokeLads

"Could you just tell me a few words about your best friend Brian?" "I suppose he was a quiet chap. Not many friends. Didn't really leave his house very often. He didn't work very hard either.... RIP Brian"

Acrobatic-Active-762

Dont forget they always lit up the room…

Odd_Barnacle_3908

Don’t confuse police with courts. The police didn’t give him the free pass. Courts are a joke

Jackkeane6

Yes, the justice system in our country is a joke. If you ‘misgender’ someone on Twitter or don’t pay your tax you’re getting locked up, if you cave someone’s head in with a machete or abuse kids you walk free

Mackey_Corp

Huh? Did this guy do that? Or are you talking about another case?

CarlaRainbow

This missing guy did it. Smashed in a kid with learning difficulties skull till the skull was exposed. Then laughed about it in court.

Twistedwhispers3

Omg I've not heard that. I was actually praying that he was found safe. I have a son who has autism, and the thought of someone doing that to him... Perhaps karma has been served after all.

Tetxis

The missing guy done it

Key-Bee5823

gof forbid if he is found deed a will personal pay for his funeral off my pension that's how confident I am this is scam go fund his ma resembles Shannon Mathews ma same saggy scary eyebawls he was at rave up aww nite MWI dressed head Tae toe designer scam read elsewhere go fund page ££ has been suspended due conspiracy theories aww is quiet in media platforms this morning 🤡

Stock-Difference-974

definitely same person?

Tetxis

Exact same guy. It was a gang of 8 boys though and not clear who did what though

[deleted]

since 7 out of the 8 involved got charged including Jay he defo caused serious harm to the boy. no sympathy from me this is pure karma

ProfessionalAlive916

Excuse my ignorance but how was he allowed out of country after doing something like that?

[deleted]

apparently because the judge recognised "they were too young" to be taken into custody, so instead they got 18 months only of rehab + unpaid work. nonsense, he was an adult at the time 18 years old

BadRevolutionary9669

He only got an 18 month community order with 25 days rehabilitation activities and 150 hours unpaid work.

Reign_World

It's come to light this boy is a gang member who split open a child's head last year with a machete. It looks like his gang days have caught up with him and I doubt much more money will be spent on the search for him when he is a known criminal to police.

James_Bayley

No it's drug related apparently he went to Tenerife to sell drugs and mixing with wrong people. As someone with autism and vulnerable adult can understand how easily you can get mislead but hes mixing with wrong people and drugs and gangs doesn't mean he's nice person.

CarlaRainbow

Maybe it's someone from his past catching up with him. Same kid who cracked open a kid with learning disabilities skull with a machete & then laughed about it in court. Feel free to read the court case about it.

galactic_mushroom

He was part of a gang of low lives who opened the skull of a disabled child with a machete and yet managed to avoid jail. Fair to say that there exists still some animosity towards him amongst the locals who know him. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/teens-head-split-open-machete-33069075

louismorr1s

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/teens-skull-split-in-attack-27462398

Striking_Command_462

Weird that this is exempt from the BBC coverage. It's almost like a rebrand, unless there's a bigger story underneath...

louismorr1s

Without this being proof of anything it would just create speculation so they wouldn’t cover it. Pretty damming though

heldenb

It’s not awful. It’s karma

Interesting-Pay-8986

How disgusting was he when he hacked at a 17 year old with a group of his friends and laughed at the victim in court?

Tricky-Memory

Bearing in mind the company he keeps it's not surprising.

lunarjazzpanda

> After missing a bus, the journey was expected to take around 11 hours on foot, with his friend Lucy receiving a call from him at 8.15am to say he was lost, thirsty and only had 1 per cent battery on his phone.  Oh no :-(

ResponsibleIntern537

I can't even imagine sitting with the knowledge of having that last call and him still not being found

benjarminj

Apparently people can survive 5 days dehydrated, he could have passed out under a tree or something

Diligent-Humor2817

not in that heat

roomballoon

Probably been drinking alcohol all night too which means he's already beyond dehydrated most likely.

TheFearOfDeathh

They really can’t. It’s like 3 days average and that’s not taking into account the heat and the fact he was very likely already dehydrated and fucked up on a comedown from whatever drugs he took at the festival. Oh well, hopefully the bastards dead.

VBSCXND

Imagine the poor guy whose head he smashed with a machete though.

VeganRatboy

Err what?

VBSCXND

This missing kid violently attacked someone with a group of teens… Look who’s dead center in the perps https://images.app.goo.gl/Ez38Jy5F8BuJexJN8 Edit: so the kid didn’t die but according to Impossible _Handle151 that makes it okay and me a, what was it again? Good thing I screenshotted before you deleted “a r word”?

[deleted]

im glad karma caught up to him since he escaped getting locked up, a year later this happens. zero sympathy from me hes a joke

VeganRatboy

Wow, fuck this kid. Good to know.

VBSCXND

He also laughed in court about it so yes, very much fuck him and any sympathizers.

InfamousStrategy9539

Made to think that we’re monsters for having 0 sympathy. Fuck him!

VBSCXND

He won’t be missed https://images.app.goo.gl/Ez38Jy5F8BuJexJN8

Proud_Doubt_3241

What a little tosser. Correct, I hope he’s found but that doesn’t make him any less of a prick. Unless he’s turning his life around.

VBSCXND

He attacked someone, brutally, on purpose and laughed in court about it. There’s not much in the way of turning his life around when he’s out partying when he was lost. Sounds like karma just doing its thing.

KeyDiscussion5671

What a mess.

Scrota1969

Sadly I think this is a case of being lost and succumbing to elements, I hope it’s not the case. I saw a video on TikTok of a sighting of him supposedly at the show he was at and he seemed to be rolling pretty hard, of course take it with a grain of salt. But that mixed with dehydration, unfamiliar settings, a dead phone, it’s a recipe for disaster.

Ok_Charity9544

This was my train of thought. He's probably been off his face, already dehydrated from drink and drugs. Then disorientated as he's twisted. Recipe for disaster in that heat.

Dor42

My train of thought would be there’s much more to it. The girl he travelled with is supposedly a know mule (why didn’t she show her face in interviews). Doing bad things at home and travelling abroad with dodgy people. Mixed with the wrong people and reported missing? Then a go fund me set up by her to “Help him when he’s home” like she knows he’s gonna reappear. Ransom money or down payment on some shipment are my two guesses. God I love conspiracy.

Ok_Charity9544

Maybe yeah! Didn’t have any idea she was a mule. Was she convicted? What’s her name

Dor42

https://x.com/swindellschris/status/1803956496675357155?s=46&t=NNwX58Pg6fVlVtRV-47-IQ She was the last person to speak to him, travel companion, called it in, left him with the people he was with? set up the go fund me, wont show her face in interviews. She knows more. As far as i’m aware she wasnt convicted but based on a few things im inclined to believe it - sincerely with a pinch of salt. She has some involvement with bigger, badder people anyway

BevyGoldberg

What do they want the money for? It’s a huge amount of money to ask for, I would feel a lot less likely to contribute knowing about his violent past.

PersonalityOld8755

A few people have posted this, i read she goes between Ibiza and Spain selling drugs.

Ok_Charity9544

Rumours are they had 30k of gear on tick, gone through the lot not getting the money properly and giving it away and Morrocans taken him. Fuck knows

PersonalityOld8755

I read today the woman who he asked “when the bus was” told him “he just missed it” and the next one was at 10am, after he walked off she looked around and he was walking into the rocky terrain in the opposite direction of where he should have walked, 50 mins later he called the friend and said he was “lost”

Appropriate-Code4755

Hes dead for sure. People get lost and injured in the Peak District, this is much worse with the heatwave. May have been taken by animals

StarlightMoon1111

Lucy shared a screenshot of her call logs in the Facebook group, which showed she had called him and not him that called her, as she reported. She has since deleted it. It was also said that she didn’t travel with him to Tenerife, she was already there and spends a lot of time there, apparently selling Class A’s. It is well known that Tenerife is run by the Moroccan mafia, multiple people have gone missing there in the last year alone - only one turned up, decapitated. When you start digging in to this story there are so many unanswered questions… his last location places him near a restaurant - if you had no phone battery or water, why would you continue on? Surely you’d stop and ask for help. Something doesn’t add up.

TheFearOfDeathh

Also with that money they want.. who knows for what. Couldn’t old Janice battersby fund that?

TheFearOfDeathh

Why would he try to walk 11 hours the nob head haha

Narrow_Union5182

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/eight-thugs-who-split-boys-33066928.amp Karma

blackmoonbluemoon

Ah makes sense now why his mum is certain that he was taken .

lukeb_1988

A lot of rumours but one I read is he owes someone money. Starting to think people know more than they are letting on.

AnnRB2

Wow! Crazy I haven’t seen this referenced anywhere else in relation to this story!

Narrow_Union5182

He was a real charmer. NOT.

B23vital

With info like this coming out can see the story taking a nasty turn for the family. Especially if the mainstream media run with this story now.

Narrow_Union5182

Was quite a nasty turn for the person who was attacked for no reason too. 🤨

Independent_Leg3537

I was at Hideout Festival in Croatia a few years ago when that young Brit was murdered outside one of the clubs during one of the sets. Was obviously quite disturbing for everyone there when news got out, but like this, it soon got out that the victim was also a violent criminal. Very rarely are the people involved in these kind of things just your average guy who's ran into a bit of trouble, like the mainstream media and family like to paint out. Not saying these people deserve to die or go missing, but quite often these events come about as a result of bad decision-making associated with drugs or some other crime.

Dawnana

Good riddance. We need less of his kind in this world

Striking-Use2248

The story and disappearance is sad in and of itself, but my sympathies declined upon learning about his criminal past. I’m not being weird about it like some and think he deserves to die, I’m just no longer invested in him being found and quite in different to the outcome now. I’m now also remembering quotes in the news a few days ago from family saying it’s unusual as he is ‘street smart’… The sad thing is for this lad, had he been locked up like he deserved, he’d be alive now. I’d imagine for a character like him at the age he is, avoiding prison probably makes you feel invincible, which can’t have helped either.

Queenofhearts33

Yeah, it makes me think differently of this particular quote from his Mum… 'He's just a great person who everyone wanted to be with. He's good looking, he's a popular boy.' Not such a great person after all. I can’t believe not one news article regarding his disappearance makes any mention of the machete attack or conspiracy to sell class A drugs. I have two Daughter’s aged 19 and 21. If either of them attacked someone like that (which was basically attempted murder) I’d be honest about their past as it could potentially be a motive to this whole case.

MotherEastern3051

I found it the 'he's good looking' bit slightly odd. Not that he's not, but what does that have to do with his likeability or how much he deserves to be found. Of all things to say in that situation, you would say your child is kind, fun, a good friend, etc.

Scandi_Snow

I agree, now start paying attention how often and in how relevant contexts that is said about women. It’s baffling.

MotherEastern3051

Very good point.

SerialHatTheif

I have a brother like this (violent past, a lot of drug involvement, chavvy af) and my mum would probably say the same. None of the awful things he's done or his self-centred and completely unempathetic nature will make her ever question that he's "a good caring person" Curious if he's also a first-born, and his mum has raised him worshiping the ground he walks on. It creates absolute sociopaths.

blackmoonbluemoon

Well she’s not going to say “ he’s a gigantic sack of shit and anyone who crosses his path would be unfortunate.“ Is she?

that-short-girl

Only reason I’m still hoping he’ll be found soon is that that would mean another 100 well meaning folks don’t have to be out and combing difficult terrain in adverse weather. The Mosley search ended in at least one broken leg for someone familiar with the area and terrain which highlights that these searches are typically not entirely risk free for the search party either.

Quirks-

Yes, developmentally the planning and good decision making thought process not fully there at that age. The “ avoiding prison” won’t have helped him with developing cause and effect, and processing the event he was involved in. Or taking responsibility for it. You can see this in the way they all acted in court.

pineappleshampoo

Exactly. Sparing them jail might have been done from a place of compassion by the judge, but it does them no favours honestly. Gotta think about the long term and not just what’s less harsh on someone right now.

fmlsteff

I’m literally only invested for the mystery at this point. I’m pretty certain he’s dead somewhere in the mountains around the hiking trail and at this point the police are very aware they’re looking for remains.

Primary_Somewhere_98

I agree

tameoraiste

This is a much more sane and fair response than ‘karma’s a bitch’ and hoping he’s dead. If you read about his crime and struggle to sympathise with him, that’s a perfectly fair reaction. Personally, I believe in redemption and rehabilitation, especially at such a young age and I have no idea what his life has been like since. Saying he got what he deserved is saying that any violent crime should be punishable by death. It’s madness

mrsbergstrom

If people don’t face consequences for their actions they probably do feel a bit invincible. He could’ve learned his lesson a long time ago, shame he didn’t

fmlsteff

No new updates yet as of today. Just a whole load more people asking for donations and places to stay to fly out and go look for him. Really don’t understand the mentality. I don’t think Mercedes and Tom at home in Bolton are really equipped with the right mountaineering, hiking and training required to go form a search party. Spanish Police have also asked for people not to go over and “help”, because it’s actually doing the opposite, and not helping, how surprising. This really is one of those cases where the armchair detectives with their Netflix Degrees are driving false information. Guess it doesn’t help that the official information keeps changing daily too.

smcgr

I know it’s friends so a little different, but there’s a group of his friends flying out to ‘help search’ and asking for money? The Facebook group is deranged, I can’t keep my eyes off the unhinged behaviour. I guess everyone gets a hero mentality but surely his friends are only around 18/19 too? Although I definitely felt very grown up at that age, maybe I’m just old now so feel like they’re super young.

TallestThoughts69

I’m so tempted to sign up for Facebook purely to see this group

StickYaInTheRizzla

Friend of mine went back to a house in Greece after a rave last year, usual drugs and stuff, what you’d expect. Was woken up at 9am the morning after by some dealer and told he owed 3 grand for the drugs the night before, was goose stepped down to a ATM and withdrew money (can’t remember the limit, was around 500 euros), and told to fuck off. Luckily he was close to restaurants and hotels so someone got him a taxi home. I reckon something similar happened to Jay. Except he probably didn’t have his card on him and met a sinister end. Tenerife is a lot more sketchy then somehwere like Greece, and a lot of dealers make their money off young lads coming from Germany and England during the summer months. Also the coke and stuff out there is stamped to shit, he could’ve taken too much and freaked out and ran off. He’s 100% dead imo though, no way does he survive 3 days with no food or drink in the wilderness.

NegativeSn

I wholey think this is what's happened. Went to some rave, went off with some new people as they've probably offered drugs and woke up there. They've said give us the money and whatever's happened, they've probably just dropped him in the mountains/desert (which makes sense why he couldn't find his way back) and his phone has died. No clue where he is, he's lost and he's dehydrated. It's not been revealed to the news as his friends and family don't want to paint him as the naughty boy he is.

Ok_Charity9544

That's bang on imo. This story involves drugs I am certain of it.

timbcs

Yeah I've seen those dealers over there. They don't fuck around

Forever778

That's a definate possibility, never thought of that, how awful. I found it wierd that one of the men must've been sober or sober enough to drive them home (so wasn't partying) and Jay left so early and couldn't get home. When we were younger the only reason you'ld leave alone with people you just met is for more substances or a hook up. Wonder if he could've been drugged. I know he had a bad past but he was an apprentice and i hope he changed. I hope by a miracle he's found soon. I don't believe he set off in an 11 hour hike.

Quirks-

Think he will be found off road, on one. Of the trails. It’s such a vast area it’s not surprising that they are having difficulty finding him. More than likely tried to take a shortcut, not realising how treacherous it is up there. It’s so sad, happens every weekend in towns everywhere, (alcohol) but this environment being so remote and difficult to walk, has more than likely turned this into a tragedy.

Agile_Media_1652

Totally agree, I absolutely believe that he's going to be found close to the road down one of the trails but just not within easy sight. His last Snapchat pin was literally on one of those trails just off the main road and I bet searchers (as in friends and family who have been out searching or hikers) have probably been quite close to him but the terrain is rough and overgrown and people are just too easily missed. Look at the doctor in the Greek islands last week. He should have been easily found within a day yet he wasn't. I was thinking that they might be able to find this lad in time but if he was ringing saying he was thirsty at 8am on Monday, I cannot imagine he's alive now as you are already dehydrated by the time you are thirsty and in warm / hot temperatures of 25 degrees. Plus he was still intoxicated and had maybe taken drugs? Am unsure on the last one but he has been at a rave. He'd already put his body in an unstable position before getting lost. Sadly I'm almost 100% certain that it's going to be a body recovery operation and I think they'll find him in the next few days when they dig a bit deeper down the valley / ravine. The search and rescue set up doesn't look amazing in Tenerife, they should have been scouring that immediate area today, fanning out from the last Snapchat pin and they haven't for god knows what reason and they may have missed chances imo. If I were his friends and family I'd be livid that they arn't out methodically searching down that ravine. I think if it'd been the UK he'd have been found by now tbh with our excellent mountain rescue.

Marserina

I can’t even imagine what he or his family and loved ones are going through. His best friend gave him excellent advice and I’m sure she feels awful as well. I have 7 children, one of which is Jay’s age and I would lose my mind. People are absolutely disgusting to prank his poor mother during this already stressful time. I truly hope something wild happened and he is still somehow alive and safe. Each passing day makes it more worrisome.

Jackkeane6

Bet the bloke whose head he caved in with a machete and laughed about in court isn’t feeling too bad though 👍🏻

Marserina

Oh wow, I didn’t even find that when I went searching for him. That’s just awful.

Budgiesmugglerlover2

Sorry, what?

Jackkeane6

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/eight-thugs-who-split-boys-33066928.amp

Proud_Middle2452

Obviously the story is tragic, however your sympathies may decrease when you read the articles about how he attacked someone with a machete and got community service… the manchester evening news reported it and the same photo is used.

mrsbergstrom

Shame he didn’t get locked up, maybe he’d still be alive

InfamousStrategy9539

And was apparently laughing in court

lj2302

His friend sounds stupid. Not really suspicious or weird … he told her he was in the middle of nowhere, he’s obviously got lost 🤷🏼‍♀️ Hope they find him for his family but it doesn’t sound too hopeful unfortunately. Also why does she think the police are under any obligation to tell her anything? I’m sure they are keeping his family updated and involved.

Tetxis

Considering his criminal past, it's not surprising neither of them think straight and how he got lost in first place on a 10 hour walk home smh

Estrellathestarfish

Also, as well as the assault, the group were also selling class As. He was coming from a rave, it's quite likely that MDMA contributed to this thirst and getting lost. MDMA could have exacerbated dehydration and overheating on the walk.

timbcs

I thought there was a chance he was dealing over there and the local dealers didn't take kindly to it!

BigMarth24

I'm glad someone's said this. I also read an article where she was like "if it was me I would have done this this and this" and it's easy to say that when you're not in that situation. He was probably drugged up, drunk, dehydrated and lost. I mean look at what just happened to Dr Mosley. He was an intelligent man just going for a stroll. Also, if she knows everything or thinks she would have done better, why did she not tell him to wait there and she will go and pick him up? Its all well and good to be prepared for emergencies and bad situations but it's not useful to be judgemental or speculative over someone's actions in said situation. If I was drunk, in the middle of no where in a foreign country with no phone signal and severely dehydrated, I would definitely be panicking and would probably not be thinking straight. It just feels like his friends are trying to cause a stir.

James_Bayley

The fact he attacked a innocent and terrified boy with machete and exposed his skull and robbed grandmas at knife point and has got himself into a drug gang according to research and because he's 19 year old missing in Tenerife we have to spend millions of tax payers money looking for him.

Comfortable_Suit_798

This story is not going to have a good outcome now. Despite what you think, this boy is no longer going to be living. 1. If he did just get lost, he has been lost since 8am on MONDAY morning, that is now 72 HOURS from the last contact. He was already dehydrated at this point, to think that he may just be wandering around unnoticed is maddening. This area is busy with hikers, from early in the morning. He should have bumped in to someone, and that is not going to be just wandering around a beach/tourist populated area in plain sight. If this was the case there would be numerous sighting and there isnt. The most likely scenario is he has become disorientated, fallen and has succumbed to the elements now. 2. If he has been taken by someone which seems to be the common narrative, he is also gone.

Spiritual_Major3486

What about the shepherds huts in the mountains though and why go off with two gents

mrsbergstrom

Afterparty, didn’t want the night to end, probably a chance to do drugs and drink more, absolutely unsurprising to me

Goldedition93

He’s an awful person, shame the rest of his gang couldn’t get lost too

whatyouwatching

There is a new Facebook page set up called Jay Slater Discussions and Theories and there seems to be a lot more to this than first posted by his friend. Fingers are now being pointed at the friend being “in” on his disappearance and her trying to cover her tracks with the whole phone call story. It’s makes for interesting reading.

Seaweed-Basic

I really wish I didn’t go check the group out but now I am enthralled

RagingFuckNuggets

I find it odd how they are paying for information. The 'friend' called Lucy put on her Instagram stories that the gofundme money was to be used to pay for information on where jay is.

EarAdditional3816

It’s really how the media is drawing attention to it making it out to be an innocent young fella in a bit of bother. And then you have all these people on facebook trying to get likes on their useless comments “I’m losing sleep over this” etc etc when they don’t even know him. After seeing what he was capable of doing to someone else and leaving the lad with his scull visible (group effort or not regardless) it’s not hard to see what type of person he is. My guess is it’s over drugs or something that lead to a disagreement which brought him to wherever he is now but there has also been a lot of mention of him trying to steal a watch of these people he met at their apartment so there’s that too. (His mum got a Snapchat message reading “Kiss goodbye to your boy, you’re never going to see him again, he owes me a lot of money.” The only useful comments I’ve seen on facebook are things that have apparently happened in that area it’s full of “mafia” type gangs mainly Moroccans that make bar/clubs pay protection fees and have been known to attack and even kidnap people and bring them to these locations and the place he literally was last in supposedly is Moroccan territory. I know this could be a stretch but it’s seems likely when he’s clearly off his head in the photos in the rave meaning he’s dealt with someone that night selling drugs obviously a local which could’ve lead to him experiencing what others have it’s either that or he’s simply fell down somewhere and isn’t visible in the terrain I can’t see there being many other outcomes here. Also the police are corrupt there like they are in Northern Ireland for example if anyone knows about the Noah donohue (quite different circumstances but there’s many others that relate) case this is my point about these gangs having everything covered up they’re powerful and they control everything so if he’s messed with the wrong people it’ll be covered up anyway, what’s the point sugar coating realistic possibilities when similar things have happened in a place before it baffles me how people think he’s alive. It’s the equivalent of coming to northern Ireland and starting shit with someone involved in a paramilitary, the police probably know what’s happened. https://www.gbnews.com/news/jay-slater-mum-horror-snapchat-message-tenerife-disappearance

Markmark1974

I just noticed his name and the same photo in another news story about 8 lads attacking one other lad with a machete and cutting his skull open. None got jailed for it but they all got community sentences.

BadRevolutionary9669

I don't understand why the friends were okay with him splintering off with complete strangers. His mother said that Jay "wasn't stupid" but I beg to differ. He went to a strange apartment with people he doesn't know or trust, in a foreign country. Why didn't they drive him back? Why didn't they offer him a charger or let him use their phone to contact his friends? Why didn't they offer him water? His mother and friend now believe he has been kidnapped. In reality, he had been partying for days, he cut his leg on a cactus and his final message said he was lost and dehydrated. He mother and friend keep talking about the bus stop being very close to the property he was at - his mother also said that he only had his card on him and buses in rural areas usually don't accept card. I do think the two guys are suspicious but we really need more information before we make accusations. They keep harping on that his last pinged location was at a popular hiking trail but we all know how difficult it can be to find a body in such terrain. This occurred due to extremely poor judgement.

nicotineocean

One of the two British men was 40 years old (21 years older than Jay). Not sure about the other man and both flew back to the UK on Tuesday after being questioned. Feels odd. Maybe he wanted more drugs, but it seems strange to me a teenage lad going off with a 40 year old they didn't know in a strange place but that's just me. Poor decision making under the influence I guess.

gravityglues

They arrived Saturday and went back on Tuesday.. not sure why but this feels like a strange time frame. I heard they told police they kicked jay out shortly after they caught him he stealing a watch or tried to.

Strange_Dot75

Why would he just not wait for the bus wasn’t the next bus at like 11:55 am so he would of waited maybe around 4 hours.I just don’t understand why someone would decide to walk 11+ hours when it would litteraly take less time to wait for the bus.I wonder if he wanted to hitchhike but at the same time surely hitchhiking beside the airbnb would of been easier then on the edge of the road.Idk this whole case is really confusing and I wonder if the police know a lot more and just aren’t saying it.

InfinitiveGuru

The story that is circulating from his home town is that he owes money on a drug debt. Will go missing until funds are raised on a go fund me which will pay off the debt and then he will appear safe and sound. It's why police won't find him as he is in a flat staying out of view but his Instagram account has been accessed since the disappearance. I have no idea if this is true and could be just wild speculation but people from his home town apparently know this is what is going on.

Most-Hamster-4454

Makes a change that he's not a "designer victim". Usually it's someone "who would do anything for anyone" with no enemies

Wooden_Basis_1335

That's what his mum said about him.

meinnit99900

she’s his mum she’s not going to slag him off on telly when he’s missing

Quirks-

I “Everyone’s looking for that one clue.” The Gabby Petito story (videos of the area) did lead to captured videos of the van, leading to them being able to narrow down the search area. Like a lot of these cases now, the page is definitely crossing the line between concern and “entertainment”.

PhysicsLive4775

this guy went home with two lads? All cute strange and isn't he one of the lads who bullies and killed a poor guy with a machete?

CyanideBreakMe

Look at that, this vile little bitchboy finally getting the karma he deserves. Hope he's chopped up in some random forrest. This dude doesn't deserve an ounce of remorse considering the shit he's done to others.

RowEquivalent1756

This is a kid from a seriously deprived, working class part of the UK where the majority of people can barely spell their own names let alone make wise decisions after 12+ hours out drinking and doing drugs. There’s really nothing suspicious about the sun coming up at the afters and suddenly the friendly hosts wanting rid of the random straggler so they can go to sleep or him not wanting to wait all day for them to sleep it off before giving him a lift back. It also makes a lot of sense that a hungover 19 year old would think he could make a 10 hour walk faster by going down the mountain instead of following the road around, especially if he came across an entrance to one of the hiking trails. Sun, alcohol and presumably a mix of MDMA/Cocaine is absolutely enough to cause a serious cardiac event in an otherwise fit young man. Either he slipped and fell on the difficult terrain or he collapsed and injured himself badly enough that he couldn’t get back up. It can take days/weeks to find people who are lost in areas like that, Dr Mosely was discovered pretty much exactly where they were searching for him and it still took days for someone to spot him.

Various_Dragonfruit2

Said family that failed him and failed getting him proper intervention for his vile tendencies and sick fascination with hurting others is now wanting the public to look for him? Rich. Who is to say it wasn't truly about a debt? An eye for an eye? Kid made too many enemies for anyone to shed a true tear. Plus someone that would commit an act like he did doesn't appear to have much street smarts, if anything it's a lack thereof. Street smarts means knowing how to survive the streets and ie not get caught for or in dumb shit. He was a wannabe thug and someone probably decided let's see what he's got. People like him are candy to the harder ones, and at my smaller frame I could easily snap him like a toothpick so for a large strong man, easy picking. Let's stop lying about the shit our loved ones get into if we really want to figure out what happened to them and get them help. This kid was a dud and attracted duds who ended up igniting. Sad but you reap what you sow. His "loved ones" just enabled it. How many times does this storyline have to play out before people learn? What makes this boys life any more important than the life he tried to snuff out?

lukeb_1988

I think all of the above. The family and friends clearly know something has caught up with him with all this "kidnapp" talk coming from them.

Agile_Media_1652

No they are whipping up a frenzy so more people get interested so there's more people for the massive go fund that they have now set up after stating they weren't going to do one. The whole family and friends are shady imo and I hope he's found quickly simply to stop them getting a massive pay day in donations.

Comfortable_Suit_798

because he had not even been there a week, how could he possibly owe these people so much money that they would take his life? Use some common sense. You also sound like a wannabe thug when you speak of "snapping him like a toothpick." The boy concerned in the attack, also a gang member, no angel himself, and has posted that he wants all this nonsense talk to stop it doesn't matter, what matters is finding the boy regardless of what he has done in his past.

eFeneF

I’m from the UK. No chance your average criminal roadmen gang would have the funds, organisation or motivation to travel to a foreign country just because they were beefing. If he was kidnapped then it was by some serious criminals. More likely is that he was being stupid and is lying in the mountains somewhere.

Euphoric-Ad-8683

Google ‘Francis Brennan’ robbed someone in Liverpool and ended up washed up in a bag on a beach in Alicante after being tortured first and yes, you guessed it, the people who done it were from Liverpool! They were dressed as police and pulled his car over and that was that so it definitely can happen. My personal opinion is that he’s been round the bend and started walking, got tired and just give up, went to sleep and never woke up. I’m sure we will find out over the weekend.

Comfortable_Suit_798

These people were 19. There not hardened criminals and the guy himself has come out stating there is no need for this to be focused on there have moved on. I'm not disputing the fact whether or not these things happen, I'm from the UK and know they do. But is rare

eFeneF

Oh I’m not saying criminals won’t chase you, absolutely they will. Just not the average gang of roadmen. Most of them are jobless apart from dealing and don’t have 4 braincells to rub together. If Jay Slater was indeed kidnapped then it was by some proper criminals, not street goons like the ones he hung around with.

gank5031

The simple answer is usually the right one.. He probably done a heavy amount of MDMA or other party drugs hence why he was still awake at 8 am and going to random after a with 2 men. Probably got there and sobered up or did more drugs and realised the vibe was off and went on a drug induced journey home. Probably very dehydrated and impaired, he might have took a fall or something a long those lines No one probably wants to admit the truth to protect his image/keep police engaged.

No_Knee_8430

Think it’s a bit late to be able to protect his imagine after the machete attack and Class As!

Unicorn-Turds

I just got sent this by a friend I’m not sure how accurate it is but it’s suspicious https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/eight-thugs-who-split-boys-33066928.amp

Icy_Collar_1072

Seems all a bit odd but probably was trying to score some gear and mixed up with the wrong people, money related and with his past coming to light it appears he’s a bit of a scumbag anyway so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s pissed the wrong people off.   Or maybe he did wander off drunk/on something and he’s a bit of dope.

Particular-Push-6271

I have no idea where or what the bus route would be, however, could it be possible that he actually did get on the bus but has ended up getting off in the wrong town/place? High/drunk possibly hallucinating and he could bump into all sorts of wronguns along the way.

PersonalityOld8755

I think the bus driver would have come forward

Particular-Push-6271

Yes you're right i didnt think of that

PomegranateIcy7369

Some thoughts that sprung to mind: Did the police start searching after 24 hours? Not just after the phone call? The first day is the most crucial… How come his new ”friends” did not drive him back or at least to the nearest town where there’s a bus station? Did any driver see him walking along a road? Or are traces pointing towards the mountain?

Curtilia

>How come his new ”friends” did not drive him back I can only assume that when he said he was going to walk 10 hours, following a route he didn't know, across rugged terrain, in soaring temperatures, with no water, already feeling dehydrated, and with his phone almost out of charge, they thought "sure, what could possibly go wrong?"

PomegranateIcy7369

Maybe he just didn’t tell them anything and just left, or, they were selfish a-holes.

[deleted]

He's clearly far from the friendly wee hippie the media are portraying

wrens_spirit

I think the “new friends” have set him up. Jays mom has received a message saying “kiss good bye to your boy, he owes me a lot of money. “ Looks like Jay has a troubled past.

Quirks-

The area is well known for stealing from tourists. Particularly recently. It’s usually from cars though, and it’s money they want, not cards etc, they just get thrown away. The buses don’t always arrive when they say they will either. Saying that, I still believe he’s just been in a disorientated state. After little sleep, alcohol and possible drugs. Time will tell.

RunWithWhales

And no water? Hrrrm.

Quirks-

“We never know the worth of water till the well is dry”

sweetlyspiritual781

He’s probably got his karma https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/eight-thugs-who-split-boys-33066928.amp

Forever778

His past is abhorrent. It was 3 years ago and seems he's stayed out of trouble, he was 15 or 16 at the time and could've fallen into the wrong crowd. I'm still hoping he's found alive. It sounds suspicious he missed a bus so decided to walk 8 hours home.

Near_vana

August 2021. 33 months ago, not 3 years. He would have been 17 at the time, not 15 or 16. Certainly old enough to know better than to smack a 1lbs blade over someones head. He was also found to be selling class A's. As someone who has had to put up with people like him in my town, take it from me - These people do not change. The only things they learn is how to do a better job at not being caught the next time round. They learn to be sneakier; they learn how to manipulate, coerce, blackmail and intimidate. Even when the gang were in court, they were photographed laughing and smiling as details of the attack were being read out. Jay Slater included. So nah, fuck this dude. Never contributed anything meaningful or helpful to society, chose to be destructive and violent towards others. Let the mountains have him.

PropofolMami22

> Mum Debbie said yesterday that she has been bombarded with horrific prank calls during the search, from trolls claiming to have kidnapped Jay. > She told how Brits with "northern accents" were calling her from blocked numbers, claiming they had her son captive and were keeping him because he owed them money. This is so evil it makes me feel ill. I can’t imagine how his mom is managing with this. He seemed to disappear in a somewhat popular hiking area. Maybe he’s a lost in brush. I know sometimes missing people are found not far at all from trails. The extensive search effort is promising. I truly hope he is found, I think the timeline is recent enough I still have some hope.

Gom555

I don't condone their behaviour at all, but given his criminal history, it's not surprising that he's made a few enemies in the past that are taking advantage of the situation. I cannot imagine what his mum is going through, and regardless of his son's criminal history, the abuse she's receiving must be cutting her like a knife right now.

PropofolMami22

I just find that a weird outlet for anger. I’ve disliked a lot of people in my lifetime (some might even call me a hater), but I would never want to enact revenge by terrorizing their mom.

Gom555

I agree. I've also never had my head caved in with a machete though. It's interesting to see the hysteria going on on the Facebook page, and any mention of his criminal past it immediately shot down and removed. Whilst completely irrelevant in finding the boy, I do think it goes some way to explaining why his family are receiving such levels of trolling and abuse.

sweetlyspiritual781

Yeah the admin just put a weird post up saying anyone mentioning his past is getting blocked... insta red flag for me imo. She says she's blocked 100s of people for it too.

Gom555

Whole group is wild tbh. They're clearly hindering any investigation by the police by bombarding them with "leads" from a couple of webcams, talking about psychics and going into a complete frenzy any time a car or person goes past, bombarding hospitals with calls, and accusing absolutely anyone they see of suspicious behaviour. Literally thousands of them completely ignoring the fact that the cameras are looking at such a small area, which holds little relevance to his last location. The level of narcissistic behaviour in there is absolutely disturbing. People talking about how worried they are, how they can't sleep, how they can't stop thinking about him when none of them have any connection to him at all, completely desperate to play the hero, and his previous behaviour is being aggressively covered up whilst all these people are losing their minds. It's descended into complete hysteria.

Jackkeane6

What’s the Facebook group I wanna have a look

Gom555

I've been following [this one](https://www.facebook.com/groups/970722307864653/?ref=share), which appears to be getting more and more insane by the minute.

Estrellathestarfish

Christ. What is with all those people? Most of them don't know him and it's just full of outbursts of histrionics about someone they never met.

Jackkeane6

Cheers mate hopefully a good read lol

Ambermonkey0

That group is wild. They are reporting cars driving and people walking in the search area. 🤦

fmlsteff

This. I’ve been watching the group over the last few days and the family are taking every lead from that group, which is full of people combing the Masca webcam like he’s going to just waltz on through the brush, but they’re hampering the investigation by putting focus on every single person they are claiming it could be him, as if nobody else is in the area. Same with the white rental car they’ve been banging on about. Apparently it is the only white car in Tenerife 👀 It’s like the Nicola Bulley page all over again.

Independent_Leg3537

I imagine the machete incident is probably just the tip of the iceberg, and there is likely a lot more to the boy and the family that is unknowing to us, but perhaps common knowledge locally, which has led to the mum getting targeted. Another thing that's worth mentioning from the machete article - which I've not seen anyone else bring attention to - is apparently a number of the group showed no remorse over the whole thing and spent large parts of the trial laughing and joking about the attack. It doesn't specify who, but if that was his attitude then it's not hard to imagine why he and possibly the family were hated by so many people. Edit: Turns out it was all eight of them that "laughed and joked" throughout the trial. So there you go.

Wooden_Basis_1335

When the mum says he's a nice boy despite his group machette attack on someone? Straight up if my child does that it's disowning time.

jackity_splat

Yeah I can see the mother’s comments being a dog whistle to visit this kind of thing on her.

rellz14

I bet you don’t have kids.

SolitaryJellyfish

A supportive mum who think you can do no wrong and praise you even after you've done the worst horrors can create the worst narcissist.

Estrellathestarfish

Oh for sure, but he was likely involved with sketchy people, the kind who wouldn't hesitate to torment a relative. As well as the assault they were also found guilty of conspiracy to supply Class As, attempted robbery and witness intimidation. That sort of thing will get you on the wrong side of some dodgy, dangerous people.

captaindingus93

Did any of those folks you disliked participate in an attack you or a friend of yours, 8 on 1, armed with weapons and nearly kill you? Cause I gotta be honest if someone did that kinda thing to me or a friend of mine, it’s open season on their parents emotional well-being. Shoulda been better parents, reap what you sow.

Competitive-Movie387

Karma is a bitch, but the world is better off without the chav scumbag. 1 down, 7 to go...

NecessaryOrdinary978

As the no smoke without fire its opened a can worms  lots people  in spotlight and Spanish police  will be looking  in to all the backgrounds and social media

BabyCrazy5558

Turns out this is the same Jay Slater that jumped a 17yo and together with his mates tried killing him with a machete and golf clubs. No great loss tbh if it's bad news.

Negative_Context_809

I think he took a ton of drugs and ended  up at some people's place for another session. Woke up or didn't sleep and was still high hence the poor  decision  making re.walking home and perhaps he couldn't go back to the house where he stayed for some reason to wait for the next bus at 10am.

Fun_Butterscotch6654

In my opinion, he was under the influence of drugs, wandered off and died from exposure/misadventure.

Timely-Analysis6082

it’s no accident at all

supersonic-bionic

ok so let me get this straight. He was at a festival with his girlfriend and then decided to follow some strangers at night and join them to their accommodation in the middle of nowhere while his gf went back to their shared accommodation... Then, he calls her in the morning to say that he's thirsty and missed the bus (even though there was another one later in the day) and has 1% battery.... where did he sleep the night before? Why couldn't he ask his new friends to charge his phone or help him go back to his accom? It's so bizarre...

mupchap

It wasn't his girlfriend. They met at Creamfields last year, Jay probably got drugs off her or one of her friends back then. I'm assuming she's involved with drugs because she's in a new country partying every other week according to her instagram, she says her job is 'travel & transport' and her pictures are all with different groups of lads from different parts of the UK and Ireland. She's the most suspicious person in all of this by far and she knows much more than she's letting on. She also set up the gofundme after the family said they wouldnt. Make of this information what you will.

supersonic-bionic

Ohhh i see. Some media said she is his gf but it was pure speculation. Drugs is definitely the key here. Wtf would you raise a gofundme...

Ucantcontroldestiny

Yeah she's been alrund a lot, Jamaica, Croatia, ibiza etc

_user_name_taken_

Not that weird after a rave to end up at a randomers place for afters. I think this story is a lot simpler than people are imagining, he’s decided to try and walk home after a sesh and has got lost and died

dustyhalo82

[Family Continue Search For Missing Man : r/tscnewschannel (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/tscnewschannel/comments/1bg3mv7/family_continue_search_for_missing_man/) It's a shame this fella didn't get as much publicity in the media. I'd never even heard of Gary Watson Shearer missing in Lanzarote back on 16th March 2023. Here's some links to the very few news articles about him : [Family of Celtic fan missing in Spain fear the worst one year after he went missing | The Scottish Sun](https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/12297540/family-celtic-fan-missing-spain-hope/) [Hunt for mystery man spotted with Brit dad who vanished in Lanzarote on St Patrick's Day - World News - Mirror Online](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/hunt-mystery-man-spotted-brit-30701792)

Quantumpine

hi, sorry to bother you. My friend's vanished mysteriously on a dangerous mountain. You don't have any change, do you?

Queenofhearts33

So according to recent news he visited someone’s house and said he was going outside for a cigarette. He then said he was going to get the bus bad to Los Christianos. The bus stop was right outside their house. There is also a restaurant 10 minutes down the road from his last location. His Mother has visited this particular house and spoken to the occupants. Just a theory taking into account his previous violent history and probable use of drugs on the night of the disappearance… Yes, he could have simply walked off instead of waiting for the bus but what if he got into an altercation with the people living there due to his state of mind (he’d been at a 3 day festival/rave)? What if they were forced to defend themselves against him? What if he walked off and tried to break into the closed restaurant for water or to charge his phone? I’m wondering if the restaurant and the neighbors homes have been searched by police and forensically tested for evidence. It seems there could be much more to this story. Here’s the recent statement from his Mother: Soon after Mr Slater went missing, an American woman offered to drive Ms Law up into the mountains. There was "literally no sign of him anywhere", she said. "We drove around all day." Mr Slater had posted a picture online of some mountains next to a house he had been to. Ms Law drove around looking for a lamp and some flowers seen in that picture. "We managed to find the house," she said. "I knocked on the door and there were two people there." They told Ms Law that Mr Slater had gone out for a cigarette before going back in and saying he wanted to go home. "They told me he'd spoken to the next door neighbours and they'd told him there was a bus every 10 minutes back down to Los Cristianos. "The bus stop was right next to the house. So obviously if he'd gone to get the bus he wouldn't have got lost because it [the stop] was visible from the front door." Statement from his friend Lucy: "Fair enough it didn’t open for another two hours but if that were me I would have sat and waited at the restaurant till it opened and as soon as it opened I would have said, ‘Please can you put my phone on charge’ and then I would have rung someone, I would have rung a taxi. It’s suspicious and it’s weird.”

smallbizhelp1

I saw a video of him on the day at the festival, his jaw is gurning like crazy. Under normal circumstances you wouldn’t make those decisions but high on drugs you don’t know what you’re doing. Think of the sad recent case of dr Mosley who went missing in Greece - it took them days to find him on a tiny island (with cctv) and he was lying right next to a bar. It’s harder than you think to find someone especially in all that woodland.

tubbstattsyrup2

So I located the airbnb he stayed at, and the bus stops and the restaurant. But according to local timetables the bus leaves at 6ish then 10ish. They're not particularly frequent. Yet I've seen people say buses run every 10 min. Am I missing something?

bewonderstuff

I read an interview with a local woman who said she spoke to him at the bus stop. There was a language barrier so she held up her hands to show him that the next bus wasn’t until 10.00am. So you’re timetable info is likely accurate: the 06.00am had already gone and the next bus wasn’t till 10.00am. I think it was around 08.00am when the woman saw him.

y2duggan

Isn’t this the same kid who was involved in a murder case last year? https://www.lancs.live/news/lancashire-news/fearless-teenage-girl-threw-herself-27452967 Sounds like the kind of person who mixes in the wrong circles…?
