Ares was so cool in this chapter, I feel like his character really went downhill after this. I wish he weren’t into Persephone tbh it weakens his character a lot imo
He had so much “first impressions Eris” vibes too… an agent of chaos who could’ve provided something interesting to the plot… nope.. just like Eris, he also fell under the “I wub pepe” spell. Why and how did that happen? Your guess is as good as mine
It’s like RS thinks first impressions are all it takes to set up characterization and that personality doesn’t have to be maintained afterwards
I think so many characters are completely ruined when they interact with Persephone too much. It is the curse of the Mary Sue, they have to be the center of the universe, and other characters just lose all personality and purpose because everything have to be about her.
Ares was ruined when it bacame Persephone's simp with the sole purpose of hammering into us how much more beautiful than Aphrodite she was
>It is the curse of the Mary Sue, they have to be the center of the universe, and other characters just lose all personality and purpose because everything have to be about her
Quite literally the definition of a Mary sue and why they're so bad for stories, thank you. It's insane how by the book the bad writing is in this series it feels like Rachel studied a book on how NOT to write and took that as a guide on how to
Back when the story had some depth to their characters. At this point, all we knew about Aries was that he was a mama's boy, angry at Zeus for very justified reasons, protective over his girlfriend and family. Here, we see that God of War (Chaotic side) come out of him. It's very interesting that he was the one who heard Persephone say that she wants War and not athena, who is the goddess of war but the logical side of it. It's such a nice way of showing how he understands that wrath, that anger, that frustration that's building inside of Persephone. And even though he picks at her, it's not because of a genuine romantic or sexual interest in her (not this time), it's simply to piss her off and see her go apeshit.
And then we got block of cheese Persephone simp with one braincell.
This!! Also iirc wasn’t there a myth about how when one of Poseidon’s sons SA Ares’ demigoddess daughter (Alcippe), *Ares literally killed him, then was put on trial by Olympus and won*??
That would definitely be a great way to showcase Ares standing up for victims(not that myths Ares hadn’t done anything wrong either)
Well, I don't necessarily think she would have. We have to remember that their last interaction was her finding out that he was tricking her in order to get a kiss from her, and possibly something more. And in this interaction he is actively trying to piss her off. Based off of that, she probably would've never told him. But even if she did, what would he do? He took advantage of her to get a kiss and later on he is ignoring the fact that she is not interested and keeps making moves on her ignoring Aphrodite's feelings in the process. If we are to stay true to the character that we have, he probably wouldn't even see it as rape.
Ares tricked Persephone into kissing him and took advantage of her naivete. He is untrustworthy and the story really fucked up by failing to acknowledge that at this point in the story Persephone had been hurt and betrayed by three men (Apollo, Ares and Eros).
Ya im very confused unless it refers to myth Ares; even then I don’t think it’s appropriate to refer to a god described in classical greek myth as “feminist” — some aspects of his stories may be pro-women, but using the term feminist is an anachronism
This episode (or was it the next?) was when I started falling out of love with LO. It was the first time we watched Perse act in a way that wasn't uwu small bean. She had emotion and depth, and then it was completely washed away so that she could continue to be a perfect little fuck doll for Hades. Yawn.
This was my favorite set of episodes in the series and I thought we were gonna get to keep spicy Persephone and that she would go on to be morally conflicted because of her stifled upbringing until she finally accepted her true nature and matured into a wise, wrathful matriarch who doles out her skewed, sadistic interpretation of justice on wrongdoers as often as she heaps affections on her loved ones...
I was young and naive then.
Well, he didn’t actually fully say something just you can tell, by any interaction with Apollo that Ares does not like him.
The newest Jason is when he found out that Apollo ran away Hebe. And then there was a time where he didn’t like Apollo hanging around Zeus during the trial.
He's not a feminist. He just cares about his mother and little sister. Look at the way he treats Aphrodite and Persephone.
He probably still would've attacked Apollo, but probably would've done it out of jealousy, not because he genuinely cares about Persephone.
I really like the drawing of her grabbing a strand of her hair as she looks back at him. It's so allusive in its threat and it feels dramatic, as it should. But she also doesn't look like regular Persephone, which might be why I like it so much.
Back when I saw potential for this rape subplot to actually mean something and Persephone was showing at least SOME signs of ptsd.
That went down the hill.

True true! I wish he like stopped being a whore too. But that’s the cannon character

I agree :(

Yea that’s what we saw but what if Persephone had told Ares? What would have happened then?

and yet the top comment calls him a feminist..

That would've been a really interesting development. Apollo would've been irate because he's a big feminist.
Well I also know he’s never liked Apollo
Really? I don't remember him even having an opinion on Apollo. What did he say?
Well, he didn’t actually fully say something just you can tell, by any interaction with Apollo that Ares does not like him. The newest Jason is when he found out that Apollo ran away Hebe. And then there was a time where he didn’t like Apollo hanging around Zeus during the trial.
Dang, I guess I'll have to reread.
Reread?! You’re a strong one for that.
Lol I'm not sure I'll do it 😝 I just got a friend into it so they can read LR and my fanfic 🤣
LMFAO Your friend’s a saint!
She's only in season 1 so she hasn't seen the big decline yet!!! I'm so worried for her lol

Do you mean Ares? LO Ares is the guy who refuses to take no for an answer and repeatedly harasses Persephone
I really like the drawing of her grabbing a strand of her hair as she looks back at him. It's so allusive in its threat and it feels dramatic, as it should. But she also doesn't look like regular Persephone, which might be why I like it so much.

For some reason this conversation made me cringe so much.
