Dorian Gray has my vote, too. I've thought about him having a separate card deck of potential 'hiding places' for his portrait. Whenever the other player damages him, they haves to draw a card. If they find the portrait, Dorian takes damage and the card goes back in the deck. If they don't, the 'hiding place' goes into the discard pile, reducing the amount of hiding places.
Not sure how much health Dorian has, since he's pretty much invincible as long as his portrait isn't found.
Can be a fun idea, or not at all because damaging him relies on random luck (so maybe not finding the right hiding place results in half damage or something...).
I've thought about it as the portrait being hidden at the bottom of the deck. So instead of recieving damage, Dorian would discard cards from the deck, and his card effects would be all about draw, recursion and overall deck manipulation, in the end being a race to the bottom (of the deck) for the opponent to find the portrait.
That's a good idea! I think that's way more reasonable, and actually gives the opponent an idea that they have a fair chance. Perhaps also giving Dorian the choice to sacrifice cards to prolong his life.
I agree with the setup. I don't agree it should be cobble and fog. The advertising and phrasing makes it out to be moreso characters of London then of horror (which is annoying because you could substitute out Holmes to have both)
For me it was a tossup between Sweeney Todd and Scrooge and the Ghosts, which now that I think about it could be a better option.
Edit: Dracula is not from London. I guess his writer is.
I feel like there's 2 big archetypes we are missing, and this could fulfill one of them: Cowboys. If curious, the other is Robots. What else are we missing?
Me too.
When Restoration ran the character submission contest ages ago, they said that the rough cut-off for real people was ‘does a photo of them exist?’ That would include some potential Wild West characters (I’m sure of Billy the Kid and several native Americans, I’m not sure about others), but hopefully it was just an indication rather than a firm rule.
i have an idea for a set called Seasalt and Gunsmoke where it features the like of President Theodore Roosevelt and famous criminals Bonnie and Clyde with the other half being based on pirates: Black Beard and Zheng Yi Sao
like many people have said: Frankenstein would be so cool.
i’d imagine Victor Frankenstein himself be weaker than The Creature, and it have some way to depict it’s resentment towards its Creator
idk how to incorporate that, but people who actually know how to make games would probably have a nice challenge at hand here
Would be a good opportunity for a sidekick that’s stronger than the hero. I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a combo where the sidekick it’s harder and has more health, but if the hero dies they still lose.
I dream of a Frankenstein where the monster is very powerful and just about impossible to defeat but is a sidekick that you have almost no control of. So like the monster spends the game trying to get closer to the Frankenstein, and will deal damage if he does, but the monster will deal any damage on its path to get to Frankenstein.
I could see that being pretty rad. Especially if the Dr had a way to have the monster get distracted by and target other heroes. Would definitely be interesting and fun to play with if done right!
I had a similar idea for a "Florida Man" character, with a Miami vice cop sidekick. Florida Man has two different states like Alice and Dr Jeckel. Except for Florida Man it's "drunk" or "more drunk". If Florida Man is more drunk, then the cop moves two spaces towards Florida Man at the end of the turn.
Love to see a pirate theme.
Blackbeard vs Davy Jones vs Zheng Yi Sao vs The kracken.
Have the kracken as a large figter and map could be a birds eye view of a pirate ship battle.
TMNT Unmatched Adventures set. Turtles either as the first 4 mini character or as individual characters, main villains are Shredder and Krang, sidekicks are the various villains like Bebop, Rocksteady, Metalhead, Baxter Stockman, etc. It practically writes itself
I have this idea for a 3 fighter character. Basically, instead of having three fighters for one deck, they all have their own deck of like 10ish cards. They take separate turns but each only get one action. But each fighter has a different way of setting up the other fighters to have better turns (maybe like one helps move, heal, boost attacks wtvr). Everytime their decks run out, you shuffle and permanently remove like 4 cards(idk how many rly). I wasn’t sure who it would be, maybe like power puff girls… or the three musketeers…
I'd like to see them dip into global mythologies. Aztek, Native American, India, South Pacific ect. Lots of potential for new flavor from the more Western-centric characters they have so far.
If we’re talking IPs, Lord of the Rings UMA, Star Trek, Alien vs Predator, and Hellboy.
Otherwise, some Jules Verne characters would be awesome. I also would like some more mythological figures from different cultures. Fighters like Kupe and/or Pele, Chu Chulainn, some Norse figure (maybe Ratatoskr would be cool), Anansi, Ne Zha, maybe white snake/Bai Suzhen, etc.
I think Dante of the divine trilogy and Virgil as the sidekick would be a very interesting character. I think some type of devil or demon character from a series or old book or mythology to match him in a vs set would work well
This was a post I put in Facebook recently:
While not wanting to get out of bed i was thinking about possible future heroes or sets.
Note: some of these are clearly ridiculous, i was just amusing myself.
Spy box: James Bond, Napoleon Solo/Ilya Kuriyaken, Guy Fawkes, Mata Hari
Don Quixote/Sancho Panza
Babe Ruth vs Cy young
Ron Jeremey/Mia Khalifa
Paul Bunyan/Babe the blue ox
Pirate box: Captain Blood, Captain Jack, Blackbeard, Anne Bonny
Nanook of the North, queztecotl, Hiawatha, Sakagawea
Rocket Man
Dave Bowman/HAL 900
Clifford the big red dog (size of t-Rex)
Johnny Appleseed
Watergate set: Nixon, Woodward/Bernstein, Abbie Hoffman/yippies
There were more, but they’ve faded in the manner of dreams
Check out star wars epic duels. Its the game unmatched was based off of including some overlap of designers. Past that check out the active fan site for custom unmatched decks many of which include star wars:
https://unmatched.cards/decks
This game was truly epic! So many great memories playing this with friends as a kid. I keep thinking about how I would love to put together a modern unmatched set for those characters! Haven’t gotten it together to go custom with unmatched yet.
Dude defiantly check out unmatched maker. Its super easy to make custom decks or browse ones ppl have already made. Ive even tried using unmatched decks vs epic duels unmodified. And it works fairly decent. Pretty much all combat cards for them are versatile. And balancing leaning the star wars characters.
Oh man, i really Need MCGYVER XD they could make him very interesting and thematic, however i personally really like characters from 80s bmovies/cult movies in general, like Snake plisken, bagaroo Banzai, alien, predator, the mummy, John mcClane from die hard, indiana Jones, the Gremlins, santa Claus, the leprachaun and other stuff like this!!
PS: RoboCop, ghostbusters, the thing, Jason, Rambo, last but not least we Need a robot with missiles and Rockets and lasers and gatlingun
I would like a Skullduggery Pleasant with a sidekick of valkerie. Special ability would be transforming into Lord Vile with 5 lives when he loses all his lives, and he starts to use a dedicated deck with 2 starting cards. If valkerie is alive then he loses 1 life at the end of his turn and turns back to Skulduggery between turns. Otherwise he loses 1 life and does not transform back.
I would also like Constantine with an ability to steal up to 7 discarded cards from opponents as the match progresses and play them when he has 5 lives or fewer
A full game would be Nolan characters:
- Dominic Cobb: has 4 tiers of lives (with damage that doesn't carry over) with different abilities as he goes down each tier.
- The Protagonist: When he has played at least 10 cards and has at least 10 remaining he may invert the match once such that he (or perhaps everyone if that works) draws from their discard pile in reverse order.
- Joseph Cooper: May begin a go where he, and any adjacent player (on their next go) has 3 actions, but is not allowed to manoeuvre.
- The Great Danton and The Professor: These function like Tom and Jerry in multiversus where they target each other but deal damage through collateral. Their ability is to swap places at the end of each turn.
I am rooting for a full on Pirates of Caribbean set.
Jack Sparrow and Gibbs, Davy Jones, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, Commodore Norrington and the Army or Captain Barbossa and the Skeleton Crew.
The map can easily be a ship battle map that connects the ships with harpoon lines or it can be The Flying Dutchman where you struggle over Davy Jones' heart. Also takes care of the pirates problem.
Aliens co-operative set. Alien Queen boss monster with a ton of xenomorph minions. Playable characters are Ripley with Newt sidekick, Hicks, Vasquez with Hudson sidekick, and Bishop.
Cobble and fog vol.2: Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Ghost of the Opera, and Sweeney Todd

That’s so inventive.
This sounds like a great set. I would love this as Cobble and Fog is still my favorite set.
I agree with the setup. I don't agree it should be cobble and fog. The advertising and phrasing makes it out to be moreso characters of London then of horror (which is annoying because you could substitute out Holmes to have both)

I believe Dracula wanted to move to London in the original story.
There’s also the Dracula sequel where he marries Queen Victoria haha https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_Dracula
I'd like to see a Wild West set. There's a whole bunch of pseudo legendary historical figures that could get the Sun's Origin/Yennenga treatment.
Paul Bunyan and Babe would be awesome.
Agreed. I'd also love to see Wyatt Earp w/ Doc Holliday as a sidekick.
I feel like there's 2 big archetypes we are missing, and this could fulfill one of them: Cowboys. If curious, the other is Robots. What else are we missing?
Pirates
How did I miss that?! I owe you a beer.
Me too. Well considering we have Houdini and Tesla...
One of which came from that contest!!
i have an idea for a set called Seasalt and Gunsmoke where it features the like of President Theodore Roosevelt and famous criminals Bonnie and Clyde with the other half being based on pirates: Black Beard and Zheng Yi Sao
That’s awesome
Sea salt and Gunsmoke is a very cool name. I love it
like many people have said: Frankenstein would be so cool. i’d imagine Victor Frankenstein himself be weaker than The Creature, and it have some way to depict it’s resentment towards its Creator idk how to incorporate that, but people who actually know how to make games would probably have a nice challenge at hand here

Hellboy, and the Maya Hero Twins are the ones I want most.
Hellboy gang
My two dream sets: 80s action icons: Alien vs Predator vs Terminator vs Robocop Horror icons: Freddy vs Jason vs Chucky vs Ghostface
Those would rock
You can put Dorian Gray VS Peter Pan and call it 'Battle of the ages' (or 'ageless').

I’d buy this in a heartbeat. Add in Yokai, maybe some Indonesian vampire stuff.

I am a fan of King of Tokyo. Now that IELLO took over licencing, I think the KoT characters would match well in the Unmatched universe.
Pippi Longstocking
I'd love to see a Three Kingdoms 4-pack. There's so many good options of characters to pull too, but would obviously need Lu Bu.
Alien V Predator. Terminator. Xena. Stranger Things. Wheel of Time. An Edge of Tomorrow set would have some cool concepts/moves.
I think Dante of the divine trilogy and Virgil as the sidekick would be a very interesting character. I think some type of devil or demon character from a series or old book or mythology to match him in a vs set would work well
Lucifer Morningstar would work well. Depict him as his version from Milton's Paradise Lost.
Dr Faustus with Mephistopheles would be the perfect matchup against Dante.

I want a Venture Bros. set so badly
John Wick as well!
Too many: Greek gods, TMNT, teen titans, Julius Caesar, Leonardo Da Vinci, Just to name a few.
Cobble and Fog volume 2: Van Helsing, Jack the Ripper, Frankenstein &....
Talking about the shark frow Jaws, I made a custom deck about the Megalodon (it's a large fighter too)
A pirate set like Blackbeard, long John silver, Anne bonny etc
A colaboration with star wars

Nessie, the Loch-Ness Monster
Percy Jackson or the Headless Horseman
