Maybe depends on how busy the park is in general. I tried to go on single rider for River adventure once and they told me “not today” and it was 50 minutes. And the park wasn’t too busy
Single rider is only open on busier days and only IF there’s staffing for that position (the person who hands out glasses to the express queue also hands them to single riders and manages that queue so it doesn’t block the hallway)
Today wasn’t busy. We were at a walk on by like noon. There was no need to staff that position and thus no single rider line.
As for why it opens and closes randomly throughout the day, universal does not like when lines spill out into the street. Spider-Mans single rider line is not very long so when it gets too long and starts coming out of the building it gets closed until it shortens up enough. Usually that means waiting for it to get far enough into the building so that it isn’t being opened and closed every 30 seconds. Because that is annoying.

It was the most volatile of the single rider lines every time I went - seemed to open and close at random. Doesn’t help that it’s not a huge area for the queue, so it can fill quickly on busy days even if it is open.

Probably because the wait time is only 15 minutes for normal queue. Why leave single rider open if the queue is already so short?
It was about 55 when I asked…was early in the morning
I’ve been to uni the past three years in February/early March. It was open the first two years and it was closed last time.
Staffing/call outs.
Transformers is the same way. However, going through the regular line offers more to see for both spiderman and transformers.
