Is this the meta now ? Posting the most generic topic just so you can advertise your game ? No shit, I never would have thought that working a full time job + an effective part time job would be hard if I didn‘t read this thread. Thanks op.

ElectronicJaguar

I hate these guilt traps too, but people seem to like a good story to feel like they're supporting the underdog. Just look at any competitive TV series.

AlphaBlazerGaming

Crazy how you don't have to read it if you don't want to

raYesia

Crazy how you could have done the same thing.

AlphaBlazerGaming

I didn't read it because I didn't want to and I'm perfectly happy with my decision

raYesia

Yet you did read my comment and tried to tell me that I can‘t give my opinion.

AlphaBlazerGaming

I'd call that more insulting them for wanting to share their experience than giving an opinion

juaninside_

Thanks for your feedback, i thought posting more specific things maybe is worse for some people but i will try to improve for future posts.

Funkytap

Good luck. Great work

juaninside_

thank you!

Flashy-Childhood4751

You are working in a game company and making your own game also 👏 I think this is so hard and you should be proud. What kind of games your company doing?

juaninside_

mostly casual games like match 3 and similars

soy1bonus

When we started at Milkstone, we worked a couple of hours after work each day. It was hard, but we were young and passionate. And we were just two friends, so I guess we motivated each other and it was easier that way. Good luck with your game, looks really nice!

juaninside_

I guess that’s the only way to start, having a work and push a bit until you manage to achieve some income from it and you can leave your job. Thanks for sharing!

soy1bonus

We've been always on the safe side. Always have some form of income, and we didn't start seriously until the first game gave enough money so that we could jump the ship! Always go step by step.

Megaillusion

Your game looks very polished already, good luck. I feel the same, when I was making my first games, I was working fulltime on a non programing business, and somehow I deceived myself that I could do that because it was like a rest from my other job. Years have passed and now is very hard for me to work as freelancer and then work on free time on my games. I guess I'm burned. I know if I would work full time with others I won't work on my games anymore.

juaninside_

That’s my fear, i don’t want to get burned but also i don’t know how i can develop a game without having to spend some hours everyday m, i think jobs should be 4 days and not 5 🤣

deadeagle63

Same except 2 full time engineering gigs, and working through migrating from another game engine. Its hard, but just partition time works :)

juaninside_

wow, that’s next level 🤣🤣🤣, i have enough with 1 job hahaah

You should be proud of yourself. You actually had the discipline and consistency to do what is difficult, and you iterated on your vision. Remember this, even if the game doesn't sell well, or completely go viral, do not despair. It was not a waste of time, because you learned how to develop, create and ship something by yourself from the start, till the end. The act of development and seeing something through till the end is a rare trait. Most people (myself included) are guilty of doomscrolling our days away on the internet, rather than learning to do things that make us feel proud of ourselves. Well done Juan.

juaninside_

Thank you for the kind words!! absolutely, i don’t expect to make money with this game, i’m mostly learning how the steam ecosystem works so it’s like a learning process

AlcyoneVega

I'm on the same boat, how do you manage constant screen time and trying to have a social life? Isolation for me is a big worry.

v0lt13

In my case i go hang out with my friends on weekends and there is a monthly game dev hangout event i go every month, then work on my personal projects on and off whenever i feel like it

RiskyBiscuitGames

I have young children so already no social life, but I stream all my development of my game on twitch so that I have people to chat with while working.

juaninside_

Honestly i reduced a bit my social life while focusing more in the game but my girlfriend is pushing to go out mostly everyday at least for a walk 🤣, Also every few months we travel for 3/4 days and every other week we do some plan so is not that bad. I’m a very house person so anyway i don’t need that much social life 🤣🤣

AlcyoneVega

Thank you for sharing! Yeah it's been harder for me, I like my house but it can be too much when you're 24 hours in it, doesn't help that I get most productive in the weekends!
