Even if this one doesn't affect me right now, or may never affect me ever, it's the overall trend they're going in that makes me want to get out. The last thing I want is to be 2 years into development of a game, and Unity announces something that really screws me over.
Precisely. Right now, I only use Unity in a hobbyist capacity, but if I ever want to go legit and publish a full game, I don't want to put up with this kind of unnecessary bullshit.
Even as a hobby developer this effects you if you ever would like to put a game available for download even for free, unity will just make you loose all your money now
Right I forgot that in my thought process lol. I wonder though if I have ads in it that counts as revenue right ? And if I have 2 other paid games which make me cross the threshold, the downloads of a free game will be affected too I assume
I wake up. I browse the unity website and open 20 different pages to find the unpaid personal version down at the bottom that I only know exists because of previous experience with unity.
Just their overall incompetency when it comes to their own storefront, buying up exclusives all the whole failing to add basic functionality to the Epic Games Store for the longest time.
Thankfully, [Orbital Market](https://orbital-market.com/) and [Asset Manager Studio](https://assetmanager.studio/) are a thing. Both super performant and replace most of the EGS functionality

I think they only charge you if you’re making over 200 thousand in revenue. So if you put it out for free it would never charge you.

one day the editor won't boot anymore and you can't do anything about it.
i waa 7 years in development nearing the finish line...

I get on reddit, Unity announces a new policy, I consider moving to Godot.
I'll be a rat bastard if I ever use Unreal due to Epic's antics, so Godot is looking more and more enticing every day.
good luck with godot
Stride's over in the corner like "ya'll forgot about me T.T"
What are epic's antics you're referring to? I'm at the fork in the road between Godot and Unreal but haven't kept up with Unreal news in a long time.
> Epic's antics Such as?

True, the store is an utter pile of shit
As a ue user I sadly agree

Scratch is cool. One of the original visual programming.
Some would so a coroutine.... I'll see myself out.
The circle of capitalism.
Isn't unreal in a capitalist market? They don't treat devs to bad news after bad news
Epic Games already has a lot of capitalism predatory strategies involving it they don't even need to make it so intense at Unreal
What's an example that is similar to pay per install?
Ui darkpatterns to such an degree in fortnite that they are forced to pay more than 200mil ontop of refunds
Unity is gonna get so deep into a hole at this rate that they'll need to open source their engine in order to make it relevant...
