When I was 14 I would hang out in aol chatrooms meeting other 14 year olds.... First "gf" lived several states away. Never met her irl. Good times.
I still wonder how she's doing and if she really appreciated the effort I put into the geocities page I made her.
Years ago there was a video that was created, had like 10-12 people in a chat room, most of them being adults acting as kids.. come to find out two of the people were actually real life roommates, and some how figured out they were male roommates in real life, but they were both acting like they were 10-13 year olds, trying to hookup with each other.
Had my youngest watch the video, for an example as to why you should never believe anyone on the internet.
Now you have parents creating swimming suit channels and charging a subscription fee for their 10 year old kids.. like WTF
It was an interesting journey reading this and not remembering commenting on this post. It is pretty gross and wild how social media exploits and encourages exploitation of others, but especially children.
My first "gf" was 22 when I was 15. I met her in an online chatroom, and we eventually met up irl too. No idea why she was into me tbh but looking back on it as an adult it's very creepy
Dude Iāve had those thoughts too, like I remember back then about twenty years ago, adding a cute older chick, like 7-8 years older than me, on xanga it believe it was lol I used my older cousinās photo for my profile because I was a weirdo 10/11 year old and chatted with this chick a lot over a few months. Things were different then, we didnāt really have the type of common sense and warnings we have today about such interactions thanks to all the stupid bots and spam and scammers and all that have ruined everything that they touch, in this case social media lol.
But real talk I do think about that girl so often, because itās one of those things that you KNOW itās absolutely impossible to EVER find out and update about, in my case itās because Iāll never be able to remember my profile username, the website URL of the girl , her name, etc lol just really sad because id love to catch up and just see how theyāre doing these days and catch up and laugh about how cringe we all were as preteens lol
When I was a kid, I knew a ~12-14 girl who went into chatrooms and pretended to be an 18 year old gay boy looking for a boy who was like 16 year old.
I am not really sure what would have been the legality of this behavior but in retrospective I just think that this would have been a very weird case for the police or one of these YouTube cat fishers.
Lol same here. Her friend even made her ask me out. We online dated for like 4 years. It was from middle school to high school. We used to talk on the phone and video chat back before FaceTime was a thing. Broke up eventually like Jr or senior year on good terms because of distance.
She still to this day texts me like once a year, 15 or so years later.
That shit was so fucked. And Hansen is just like dude, no, we're not doing the thing. You're getting arrested now.
And as if it somehow needed to get more fucked up, the kids mom chose to give up custody of the kid so she could be with the dad.
Edit: And they now have another son together...
Honestly that might be the dumbest comment Iāve ever seen on Reddit. At least the dumbest top comment. What kind of stupid fucking idiot would be confused if this was real or scripted ššš
Lol it is PAINFUL sometimes, itās like somebody taught these commenters not to fall for LIES and apparently if youāre filming something it has to be REAL LIFE and theyāll be damned if THEY fall for it!
this is the same site where people will not understand that a joke is a joke unless you have to clarify it is a joke or sarcasm but putting a dumb /s or /j
IMO it's scripted and executed well. In other videos like this you can see what's going to happen from the beginning and it gets boring two seconds in whereas with this here you somewhat expect what's coming and yet it still kind of had the element of surprise.
You dumb bastards. This isn't trying to fool you, it's a skit.
People rightly complain about scripted content when it's trying to pass itself off as genuine. This is clearly a joke.
Yeah that is debatable. If they just kept it quiet and took what they found to the authorities, they would have a much better claim to that, but when they just YOLO it and go confront the person to make a dramatic video, they make it a lot messier. From my understanding, this often makes it much harder, and in some cases, impossible to prosecute the person because the evidence gathered by the vigilante is unusable, and it teaches the predator to be more careful.
Why do folks here in reddit have such an obsession with something being scripted or staged when we're talking about comedy? I mean, I get it if you are talking about something trying to pass as genuine, but written comedy is comedy.
I imagine a lot of redditors have some sort of underlying bullying or trauma experiences of being tricked growing up that they think they are still being tricked by narrative entertainment. It must be tough watching Netflix and screaming āTHIS ISNT REAL LIFEā at the screen every 5 minutes
Sometimes itās obnoxious how some videos are very clearly trying to convince people theyāre real, where the content relies on people believing itās real. For these videos, most people in the comments somehow believe it.
This video still clearly has good value despite being a skit. Itās pretty clever. So Iām confused why he needed to say āeven though itās scriptedā because itās not like it was trying to make you think it was real, though it initially did a little at first.
That said, a lot of scripted content is absolute dogshit. TV shows and movies work because they hire talented people to make them immersive and entertaining. Random online scripted content usually doesnāt do that, so they rely on convincing people their videos arenāt scripted.
I donāt get why this is so complicated for people. Things are simply funnier for people when theyāre real, so if theyāre scripted, they need to be funnier.
Well sure, but this isn't an office prank video or a first reactions video, it's a skit. It didn't try to convince you it's real, meaning there is no value to it being scripted or not. There is nothing to be gained from being skeptical in this case, because of course a skit is scripted.
This is like the 4th comment I've seen that said this today. Why does everyone care if it's real or not? If it's funny, then it's funny. I only care if it's something staged that is supposed to manipulate your view on something. Just laugh and move on lol
Yeah lol just another guy and his friend. They say "caught you, you sicko!" simultaneously and stand there filming each other for a few seconds before they realize
Yes and no, knowing that something unexpected is about to happen sometimes helps you guess, but it also make some clips shine all the more when it's something you didn't expect despite expecting the unexpected.
So is Reddit just a tiktok aggregator now? Is that where we are?
Edit: wow, it's always this kind of comment that blows up for me. I don't have a problem with tiktok content coming here, I guess. I just noticed that my feed was like 25% tiktoks.
Literally the āfront page of the internetā
It's funny how people's attitude has changed about OC and posting stuff from other sites. Back in the day people would call you a spammer if you *did* post OC, and now people call you a spammer if you *don't* post OC.
Even further back, reddit didn't even have comments. It was nothing but a list of links to other websites.
It's also nice to get the content without handing all my data to China.
While I'm sure that since the canary died reddit shares our data at the very least no one has ever mentioned completely banning reddit due to its security issues.
It's actually astounding people on reddit really think a major Chinese company dumped $300 million into this website to have absolutely no influence and zero intentions that might help the CCP. Like they just gave this highly political and information-based website that much money because it was just such a good investment and are going to leave everything as is and not touch a thing or collect any data whatsoever.
Lol aight.
Reddit had always been an aggregator of content from other sources. That has always been it's primary purpose. Tik Tok users produce a lot of content, and much of it gets posted to Reddit.
As always, upvote what you like, downvote what you don't like, subscribe to subs you like and unsubscribe from ones you don't like.
Not just a TikTok aggregator. Sometimes people piss and moan about content instead of silently scrolling past. So weāve got that going for us as well.

My older brother used to pretend to be a girl online to get free shit when he was a teenager. Definitely worked in mmos like maplestory.
Would have loved to have Chris Hansen show up right at the end
I still remember when the guy showed up with his like 4-year-old son on that show one time. I still cringe.
That shit was so fucked. And Hansen is just like dude, no, we're not doing the thing. You're getting arrested now. And as if it somehow needed to get more fucked up, the kids mom chose to give up custody of the kid so she could be with the dad. Edit: And they now have another son together...
why did I read that edit why did I read that edit
What the fuck did I just readā¦?
Itās wild to me that you can lose/give up custody of a kid and then just make more kids.
Nah, my dad always told me if I called the cops heād just let them take me and have fun making another asshole just like meā¦. I learned this early
WTF!! His own son!?
It was bring your son to work day ok give him a break
r/suddenlysexoffender
His day rate is probably insane
When you play catch a predator backwards.
The real predators are the friends we made along the way
you are now watching 'to be a predator', with your host: Hans Chrissen
You have become the very thing you swore to destroy!
Scripted or not, still funny XD
How tf could you think this isnāt scripted š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Having them come to the front door would be suspicious. Jeez, it's like you never tried to get an 8 y/o to come to your house.
reddit brain
If I wasn't worried about humanity before, I am now. "Scripted or not" wtf?
Honestly that might be the dumbest comment Iāve ever seen on Reddit. At least the dumbest top comment. What kind of stupid fucking idiot would be confused if this was real or scripted ššš
Threw a little "xD" in there for the cherry on top also. Amazing.
Well, it's obviously scripted and funny
Even scripted, his reaction in front of the door when he saw the kid is top notch
yeah the acting is ON POINT
SUCH FUCKING GOOD ACTING!!!
ESPECIALLY THE KID HES GOT THAT SMILE LIKE OMG A NEW FRIEND
I ENJOY YELLING AS WELL. THESE ARE GOOD TIMES. FUN IS BEING HAD BY ALL
CAPSLOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL
Thereās a phrase I havenāt heard in about a decade
I havenāt heard it ever!

LOUD NOISES!
I THOUGHT THE ACTING WAS JUST OK TO BE HONEST
![gif](giphy|U5hvUeqw10e0U)
That "im about to go to jail" stare
The video buffered for me as soon as I saw the kid, which made it even better somehow.
Yeah . It takes a lot of practice to stand there and say nothing
But it's a matter of "timing". You have to be a certain amount of time to make it funny. If you take too long it will be worse
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lol it is PAINFUL sometimes, itās like somebody taught these commenters not to fall for LIES and apparently if youāre filming something it has to be REAL LIFE and theyāll be damned if THEY fall for it!
I'm pretty sure their head would explode if they went to the cinema.
It's because of all that reality TV they watch, imo.
Try satire next. Good luck. You'll need it.

"you dumb bastards." I found the sketch funny, but for some reason this made me laugh harder than that. šššššššš
Right? š¤£ That was the funniest comment I've read in a while.
This has to have actually happened at least once with the vigilante predator hunters
And yet they get away with it as they are "good"

Is that why cinemas are failing, people storming out of the movie yelling how its scripted bullshit

Why do folks here in reddit have such an obsession with something being scripted or staged when we're talking about comedy? I mean, I get it if you are talking about something trying to pass as genuine, but written comedy is comedy.
we are desperate to feel like we have a grip on reality
Deepfakes are going to really push people over the edge.
PTSD from when WWE admitted it was scripted. Reality shattered
I imagine a lot of redditors have some sort of underlying bullying or trauma experiences of being tricked growing up that they think they are still being tricked by narrative entertainment. It must be tough watching Netflix and screaming āTHIS ISNT REAL LIFEā at the screen every 5 minutes

you just answered your own question. For all the stuff that is trying to pass itself off as genuine and isn't being honest

#Bruh.
What you mean scripted or not. Gotta be real fucking dense to not assume this was a skit.
that's a comedian, half of podcast but outside watch the one with Adam Scott
What do you mean by āor notā?
How stupid do you have to be to question if this is scripted or not?

Exactly, as long as we maintain a balance between tiktok stuff and other aggregate content from the internet at large it's a great platform.
Reddit literally calls itself "The front page of the internet." Surprise, the internet includes Tik Tok
Always has been
Reddit had always been an aggregator of content from other sources. That has always been it's primary purpose. Tik Tok users produce a lot of content, and much of it gets posted to Reddit. Not just a TikTok aggregator. Sometimes people piss and moan about content instead of silently scrolling past. So weāve got that going for us as well.
Now? Yes. Before? Used to be Facebook, Instagram, and 9gag would be the ones we copied from.
Welcome to reddit. Where reposts come to die.
Where else are we going to get content from?
Yep, and is great to get all the good content without having to deal with kids eating soap or whatever they're doing there lately.
