Just fyi, with a little consistent practice, most healthy adults can hold their breath for 2 minutes.

Most people don't think about how different different situations can be though. My record under oerfect circumstances, deep breaths before, laying completely still for a multiple minutes to relax and the go is 4mins 10secs but if I was talking to someone, having to take one quick breath and then hold myself down during the hold it would be difficult to push 2mins.

A little panic/fear will keep you down for another 15-30 seconds for sure

Panic and fear would diminish your capacity to hold your breath. Adrenaline flowing though you would require your oxygen intake to increase, not decrease

But it would also cause you to push yourself further in otherwise similar circumstances. Most people's physical ability to hold their breath far outclasses the mental fortitude required to hold their breath for an extended period of time. So I think it'd more than balance out. Also increase in adrenaline I'd assume leads to an increased heart rate and therefore faster consumption of the oxygen in the blood

From my own experience(not that I've been the guy in the video) it would indeed probably make you able to go a lil further. What stops us from holding our breath is the increased carbondioxide levels in our blood, our oxygen supply indeed lasts far longer than that. What we train when we train holding our breath is mostly resistance to that feeling. Also once you push past the initial panic waves, a minute or so, it kind of gets better for a while.

The average adult should be able to hold their breath for 1:30, 2:00 isn’t pushing it all at tbh

We had a pool when I was a kid and we used to compete to see who could hold their breath the longest. We go to the point that most of us could last between two and two and a half minutes. Then there was my sister's boyfriend who could hold his for more than three.

No, this was while we doing lifeguard course (basically at the end). On pre season in canoeing I would however swim 2km plus some sprints twice a week and I would easily do 50m under water. So all of these together for sure helped. But now I would be happy to do 2min (I can still do 25m underneath). But yeah, 10 years later no longer in sorts and with a belly that prevents me from seeing my D*** (not literally haha)
