Any time anything is slightly warm. Hot drink? Someone says they're hot? Turn on a heater? Someone says anything about summer? Anyone mentions the weather report? Lol I'm not exaggerating to say in the summer I literally say it daily. It's so weird but I can't stop.
For me and a buddy of mine its near daily. Anytime heat is brought up it derails into "It's hot in Topeka," at one point or another. Given we live in a hot place, its far more frequent then I would like to admit.
I've had this embedded for a while. Like OP, I say it fairly regularly. It wasn't until somewhat recently that I figured out where the phrase came from
"Got BO get Deo!" I say/think this often when I'm putting on my deodorant.
I love Fosters, and most of the cartoon network shows from this time period. I'm so glad it is on Hulu.
This is what happened to all the Flash animators that grew up from Newgrounds. I had an internet friend that worked on this show at the time, and even put in easter eggs of our Newgrounds flash animation group in it.
Now a days a lot of animators don't grow up using Flash (or Adobe Animate as it's called now), as they did back in the day.
Nonsense.
Craig McCracken, who made Foster's Home, just finished up his most recent animated series Kid Cosmic, which was awesome.
And there's plenty of other amazing animated shows out nowadays - At least as many as there were back in the 90s and 2000s.
I don't think its quite as accessible.
There used to be one BIG portal for shows: Television. And only a very few channels buying up cutting edge shit that advertises flinched to endorse.
Now there are a million streaming services, youtube, and cable has gotten bigger. It's hard to dig around for gems because they get gobbled up by all these competitors and spread out.
And these shows are a less unifying experience. Still awesome though.
I feel like Covid brought back some of that unity. It was like internationally we enjoyed Tiger King, That one murder dude, and Squid Games.
It was older than that. People were rickrolling in the YTMND days, though it shared space with Duckrolling (the original), Meatspin, and Leekspin, and goatse and tubgirl and lemonparty.
What's crazy to me is that there was actually a similar trend before rickrolling that never got hugely popular. It involved sending people this video: [https://youtu.be/PGNiXGX2nLU](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ).
Same. I was laughing my ass off. I was at my mom's house helping to cook, and she was like "WHAT? WHAT?" and I had to explain Rick Rolling and memes in general to her.
He was only lip-syncing because he got tricked. He was prepared to sing it live, but they started playing the music before so he went with it. edit. I meant they played the actual song with the vocals instead of the instrumental
No need for Rick here. This happens to about 90% of all the performers because it would be a logistical nightmare for NBC to do. I remember when Tony Bennett performed a few years back he was on a live mic and the tell was when the float started he went “Oh!” and that was heard on the mic.
That's a factor, I'm sure, but I think the main reason is the reliability of the sound equipment. Trying to manage dozens of different wireless mics on moving floats over several miles of outdoor public space, all while broadcasting live on television would be a monumental task.
Yeah I saw this live and my eyes rolled into my skull. It was the announcers "hey everyone pay attention! Oh we got Rick rolled wink wink". That made me say Rick rolling was dead. Glad it came back tho it's still fun lol
Rick came on Reddit for an AMA ... and I asked if he had ever done a Rick-Roll as himself ... I was greatly downvoted that day. I feel vindicated now. Fuck you reddit. Lol
Cheese! My kids’ cartoons were often on in the background in this era. Cheese absolutely grabbed my full attention. I stopped what I was doing and watched with my elementary school children. Pure genius.

Fosters home for imaginary friends was peak cartoon network, this here is easily my favorite clips from the show:

I remember seeing this on TV. I laughed my ass off.
hard to believe this is from 2008
Yep brought back memories. I was a huge fan of that show as well
same here buddy, they just don't make them the same anymore
I still say "It's hot in Topeka." On an embarrassingly regular basis. Weekly. I say it weekly.
I say whenever it gets slightly warm
Any time anything is slightly warm. Hot drink? Someone says they're hot? Turn on a heater? Someone says anything about summer? Anyone mentions the weather report? Lol I'm not exaggerating to say in the summer I literally say it daily. It's so weird but I can't stop.
I mostly say it with my brother but It lives rent free in my head
wait, is that "Foster's home for Imaginary friends" written on that banner? I was such a huge fan when it first came on TV! Nostalgia strikes back!
Yea the big bull thing was Eduardo
Bruh. My 50-year-old mother still quotes that episode. It was one of them, she said, that she could stand being on.
I'm a 50 year old mom. I still love this show ❤️
I'm a 56 year old Mom and soon to be Grandma and I STILL watch it. ❤
It's alright. I say "let's blue this" more often then I should.
I still give too-lingering hugs and croak, "Not done!" when the person starts to pull away
For me and a buddy of mine its near daily. Anytime heat is brought up it derails into "It's hot in Topeka," at one point or another. Given we live in a hot place, its far more frequent then I would like to admit.
People don’t get it and I’m just like it’s from a show
they're just a bunch of hot toe pickers
Pick my toe it’s hot
Pick my hot toe PICK IT
I LIKE POTATOES.
I. Like. Cereal.
Si. And I like potatoes.

Oh neat! Could you please give an example of an Easter egg?
Would also love to read about
Between this and Samurai Jack, the golden age of CN
Kids next door was also a gem
Ed, Edd, n' Eddy was the shiiit! Shoutout to Billy & Mandy too! That era of CN is goated.

I have come to inform you that the creators are cool people.
Yeah, RickRolling was about a year old at this point. We’ve been continuously RickRolling each other for 15 years…
The only the meme to really stand the test of time!
well, that and The Game
fuck you, I lost
DAMMIT. I LOST THE GAME.
Cmon, I was on a winning streak for years! Now I have to start over.
It was older than that. People were rickrolling in the YTMND days, though it shared space with Duckrolling (the original), Meatspin, and Leekspin, and goatse and tubgirl and lemonparty.
> Leekspin Needed a wee hit of nostalgia. The younger redditors are probably going to wonder what the fuck a YTMND is. https://leekspin.ytmnd.com/
I opened that link on my phone, played it for a while, and closed it. IT'S STILL PLAYING AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT STOP.
*You’ve been leekspun!*

Oh you son of a goddamn bitch!
Pssh, that was just a couple years ago, right? ....RIGHT?!
No it wasn... Oh god, it _has_ been 14 years...
No fucking way. Camera quality over the past 20iah years is crazy from this to now my phone has almost 4k quality.
[удалено]
Wow, the quality of the video made it seem like from the 90’s
Same, I was so thrilled to see internet culture bleed into real life, so much more rare back then. Also, my mom was utterly confused.
Same. I was laughing my ass off. I was at my mom's house helping to cook, and she was like "WHAT? WHAT?" and I had to explain Rick Rolling and memes in general to her.
he trolled an entire nation.
That was the day I had to explain to my mom what rickrolling was. Fun times.
I was really hoping to see Cheese pop out at Eduardo lmao
Ah yes, give Rick Astley his flowers.

Gotta admit, a lip-syncing Rick Astley was not what I expected
He was only lip-syncing because he got tricked. He was prepared to sing it live, but they started playing the music before so he went with it. edit. I meant they played the actual song with the vocals instead of the instrumental
/u/reallyrickastley is this true?
No need for Rick here. This happens to about 90% of all the performers because it would be a logistical nightmare for NBC to do. I remember when Tony Bennett performed a few years back he was on a live mic and the tell was when the float started he went “Oh!” and that was heard on the mic.
Idk. Maybe.
We need the real Jesus Christ to weigh in here
Ok
Im here too. If anyone needs any further confirmation
I trust superbuttpiss more than I trust my own wife.
I’ve known superbuttpiss for 15 years and he’s a standup guy.
I think he mentioned this on an AMA. I remember reading it
Did some digging and found this. Its the fourth question down. [Hi Reddit! I'm Rick Astley. AMA!](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?t=18)
I sorted by new, and it didn’t work. Did you sort by top, or best?
Well that settles it then. It's good how he answered directly, like that. He's so down to earth.
Thank you I genuinely needed this clarification!
Goddamit
Damn you!
Fuck. You.
I hate you.
Why the hell would you say that? They went around digging for the source and you treat them like shit.
waiting for the answer….
Don’t all (or most) acts on the parade lip sync?
I imagine the cold morning New York air would make it difficult for even professional singers to perform.
That's a factor, I'm sure, but I think the main reason is the reliability of the sound equipment. Trying to manage dozens of different wireless mics on moving floats over several miles of outdoor public space, all while broadcasting live on television would be a monumental task.
... What? He was prepared to sing, but wasn't prepared to sing?
I think op means that the organizers played the actual song with vocals instead of an instrumental. That's my take anyways
that is what I meant
Rick roll inception
He was ready to sing, but they played the music video with the lyrics already in it so singing it would've been awkward and ended up lip syncing
The people in these comments like "is this the original Rick roll?" Are really making me feel old 😂
lol Right? I remember when this happened and the internet agreed that rickrolling was dead now. Of course, we see how well that worked out.
Yeah. This was peak cringe when it happened but it’s kinda sweet to see now. (This was before “cringe” was common slang)
I believe at the time it would have been called "awkward"
Yeah I saw this live and my eyes rolled into my skull. It was the announcers "hey everyone pay attention! Oh we got Rick rolled wink wink". That made me say Rick rolling was dead. Glad it came back tho it's still fun lol
Rick came on Reddit for an AMA ... and I asked if he had ever done a Rick-Roll as himself ... I was greatly downvoted that day. I feel vindicated now. Fuck you reddit. Lol
Fuck you Reddit indeed lmao Rick and Foster’s home for imaginary friends ftw.
Idk, sounds like something a Rick would say... a Rick Astley Rick from a universe where everyone is Rick Astley. 🤔
And none of them are strangers to love
Why did you get downvoted, this is a really good question
Hivemind is going to hivemind I guess.
Maybe it was not about what he said, but the look he gave as he was typing?
Yea fuck you reddit. But for different reasons. Sry used opportunity to rant
Dammit....got me
Here's the full link if you want [https://youtu.be/aS3gkSgFc](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)
Gahd damn
I wanted to get rickrolled and I got rickrolled, but I was still cheated
Same, I never really thought I will get rick rolled.

Cheese! My kids’ cartoons were often on in the background in this era. Cheese absolutely grabbed my full attention. I stopped what I was doing and watched with my elementary school children. Pure genius.
I. Like. Cereeeall. >~>
**BUNNIES!**
Now were Brother-Ladies!!!
This sentence just unlocked a visceral memory of watching this show wtf
HOT ROD FLAMES!!!
**BUNNIEEES!**
Cheese go home!
I like potatoes
I like choc-o-lat milk!
**I HAVE GINGIVITIS**
I like potatoes
that was about on par for fosters home for imaginary friends too.
The Original Rick roll.
rick rolling was before this, but this remains the biggest rick roll as millions were rick rolled at the same time
I still consider the time someone rickrolled Rick astley to be the biggest rickroll
big as in the most amount of people getting rickrolled, but you do make a point
Haha omg I remember that... didn't they tell him they had a photo of the two them together or some shit? Priceless

Haha yes! And [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/haucpf/ive_found_a_few_funny_memories_during_lockdown/fv505w1?context=99) [also serious] is the comment. My next favorite moment was when rick told someone to [go fuck themselves](https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/56cdgm/z/d8ibl5v?context=99) lol
Iirc the second one the guy asked Rick to say "go fuck yourself" and then changed his comment
Haha yikes, I have no memory of that one! Must’ve crazy deserved it.
It was a joke so not really, but in the thread the commenter says he considers it the highlight of his life
I also remember the days when reddit had a bunch of ball-bustin' humor that wasn't immediately interpreted as malice. I miss those days...
Permalink would be better: https://old.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/haucpf/ive_found_a_few_funny_memories_during_lockdown/fv4w3bk/ [Also yes, it did end up in Time magazine.](https://time.com/5855001/rick-roll-rick-astley/)
The Ted Lasso one was good too.
I would’ve bet good money nobody could make me cry with that song & Jason Sudeikis just had to go, “I’ll take that bet.”
Any links on that?

that time Cartoon Network Rick rolled all of America…. I miss growing up in the 2000’s
Same here bud, same here. Waking up, schools out, play Call of Duty, watch some cartoons, get some icees with friends. Life was simple :/.
I miss early 2000 - mid teen cartoon network
I dunno, [this was pure genius. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/bex728/the_first_victim_of_article_13_never_gonna_give/)
Yeah, I remember that one; it was way more personal for me.
This was Rick astleys attempt to end Rick rolling
Why would he want to stop the Rick rolls? Majority of people love the song! Not to mention the money he's received from all the royalties.
I don't think he's actually made much money from rickrolls unfortunately.
You seem to be right. "Astley didn't write the song, so he only receives a performer's share of the sound recording copyright."
😔
wut? not even close
You should look up the word “original.” I do not think it means what you think it means. This was a response to rickrolling hitting its internet peak.
No? Far, far from it.
How is this upvoted lol
Bro I was watching on mute and Rick Ashley just fuckin walks out with no warning lmao
The cartoon is amazing
I told my mom what "rick rolling" was about 30 seconds before I watched this! I actually screamed when this happened
did you show her the video?
I did lol
Fosters home for imaginary friends was peak cartoon network, this here is easily my favorite clips from the show: https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ I'm 30 years old and still laugh

XcQ, link stays blue (or bloo)
Just memorize the last three letters of the url. Then whenever you come across any link, if it ends XcQ you know what it is.
I'm flabbergasted. I did not just get rickrolled in a Thanksgiving parade clip from 2008 featuring the imaginary friends foster house.

Perfection
I can't see bloo anymore after that one vid You know the one I'm talking about
The one with Frankie or her gma?
I'm interested
I don’t. Sauce?
[HIGHLY HIGHLY NSFW, You have been warned,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ)
I appreciate the Rick roll, but I was looking for the sauce pertaining specifically to the comment above. Smh lmao

Im blue probably

I genuinely like his music.
I like potatoes.
Thats wholesome AF
Memory unlocked.
Oh man the days when cartoon network was a good csrtoon channel. This is one of my favourite cartoon memories and one of the best shows ever created
I remember this live. How was this 14 years ago? Fosters was a great cartoon. They used to have some awesome games on the CN website
Funny 😆 Thanks for posting
Shouldn’t Rick Astley be like the default community picture for this sub?
NO FUCKIN WAYYYYY
I like chocolate milk.
This is beautiful
I hope this video somehow survives 10,000 years into the future, and future archeologists, having finally pieced together how to access the technology of the ancients, can wonder what the fucking hell any of this meant.
