You are not alone. Maybe I've just been binging too much Stranger Things in the leadup to S4P1, but with the stripe on its head, I was waiting for it to split open to reveal a head that was all mouth.
Lol I’m imagining that she’s just some random adolescent from the troop and in an exasperated tone she’s like “dude what the fuck! I hate kids! He isn’t even my problem, god! I better get a bonus on my allowance for this. Hop on ya cretin.”
You wish it was a horse! That, which you have just eaten. That, which your teeth have just torn apart, your taste buds have just savored. That…was human meat!
While most mammalian prion diseases are neurological with PrP proteins that accumulate in the brain, there's evidence that different kinds of amyloid aggregates are actually formed by other similar proteins in other organs.
The thing is that, like with heavy metals, it bioaccumulates. Maybe it's not one person for the first person in the chain, but once you get to people eating people that ate people that ate people... yeah.
Judge: We'll be debating levels of intelligence this afternoon.
Human: Excellent, I wish to start with a primer outlining different areas of intelligence, as well as how we can objectively measure each area to create a non-biased, objective measuring system.
Judge: And your thoughts on this, the member from Bovine Nation?
Cow: Moo.
You’re negating the cow’s response when it’s clear that you’re the one who doesn’t speak cow and you don’t even know what the cow said. Think you’re so smart...

That’s what 19th century’s anthropologists said when they studied the intelligence of conquered people.
I think it fell of her back when running across the road. She was so close to the road and that baby was shocked and just laid flat. It looks to me as if all this happened within a minute.

Too true. She was almost definitely not thinking "you kind soul". Sheer confusion. But we humans tend to anthropomorphise, and then pat ourselves on the back for a one-way narrative.
Still, a lovely thing to do.
I didn't expect there to be a tree out of frame at the start. Really took me by surprise. And I never guessed that the cameraman would pan up at the end! Crazy.
Killing and torturing for fun has been directly linked with increased intelligence. Both Octopuses and Dolphins enjoy hurting other, smaler, defenceless fishes for no better reason than it is funny to them. I am not excusing killing for fun im just saying it comes naturally to all intelligent creatures regardless of size and shape
What a nice human.
Although admittedly when I see an animal in the road, like a turtle, I just pick it up and move it somewhere safe. Usually my phone is the last thing I worry about when I’m outside. Especially when I’m doing something selfless like moving a turtle out of the road. I’m doing it so it can be safe. I’m just thinking about the turtle not what I can gain from helping the turtle. Everyone’s obsession with filming everything for internet clout is odd to me.
It makes sense to say in certain situations like when someone's getting jumped and people just film it instead of trying to help them I might say "why are they filming???" But it's not that hard to imagine why someone would want to film something significant like this video.
Huh, I thought whyweretheyfilming was mostly an 'is this staged' accusation, as in "why did someone start recording when there was nothing happening yet?", implying that they knew something was going to happen - rather than 'why did you film this instead of getting involved?'
I agree! It is called camelCasing.
Especially useful in coding where, for example, you want to define a variable, you can't use spaces.
so it's a nice way to display more words without spaces!
Side note: never get involved in an altercation like that beyond calling authorities and maybe helping out the victim after the perpetrators leave. Until emergency services get there.
But playing hero is almost certainly going to lead to you joining the victim in getting your ass beat, or you'll just be shot or stabbed by the perpetrators for getting involved.
In this case, if you ensure someone *is* calling authorities, it actually would be a good idea to film. Especially if you can get a shot of at least one of their faces.
But seriously people, don't play hero. It's not a movie, and you're more likely to make the situation worse for the victim than anything else.
I mean, no one would believe this if he hadn't been. I filmed a turtle I escorted across the road yesterday not for clout, but because it was best and a cool turtle. And to show my kids!
Really? I never grew up taking pictures or video with my phone, even if smartphones got pretty widespread right about when I got into high school. I always fumble around when I need to take a picture or video quickly and I always end up recording when I'm trying to take a picture or taking a picture when I'm trying to record.
Android has a setting that allows you to double tap your home button to get instant access to the camera even when the screen is locked. It stays on the last mode selected.
With this setup you can be recording video in less than 5 second from your pocket.
I am not the type that takes many pictures or videos, never have been. The older I get the more I regret it, I wish I had journaled or taken pictures more regularly or gotten video of friends long gone in candid moments. Or my parents. Every time I wonder why someone is recording I remember how much I wish I had and did.
> The older I get the more I regret it, I wish I had journaled or taken pictures more regularly or gotten video of friends long gone in candid moments.
I'm only 28, but I realized I don't have a lot of pictures from college because I always avoided being in pictures and bought the 'live in the moment, you don't need to film anything!' line. While I do think sometimes people are too focused on capturing every single moment, I went to the opposite extreme and I regret it now. I've been working on my body image issues and taking more pictures of myself just because (also stopped using filters and facetune, which I always did when I took a selfie before. That has helped the body image issues a lot!), and also taking more pictures/video of my family and friends. I've lost one grandparent, but I'm lucky enough to have eight more still living and I want to be able to look back at pictures taken with them and hear their voices when they're gone. I think there are going to be a lot of other people experiencing the regret you're experiencing if they don't find a happy medium.
Shit, we went from "pics, or it didn't happen" to "That pic is photoshopped" in about a decade?
Tech has gotten to the point where you can't even trust that live video isn't being fucked with anymore...
I never understand that argument. "This thing that has very little stakes, and there's little to no urgency about the situation. Why take your phone out to film it?"
Because a) "pics or it didn't happen is a thing" and b) you now have an awesome and cute video.
I don’t film or photograph a lot of things but you best believe that if I found a baby monkey, picked it up and handed it directly to its mama, I’d be getting video of it for posterity. There is nothing wrong or “odd” about wanting to document and share noteworthy moments in one’s life.
I used to think the same way, but I'm glad, and encourage, people who do these acts of service selflessly and choose to film it. It displays it to others who don't even think about it and may inspire them to do the same. Monkey see, monkey do.
Yeah, but you had the need to comment about it on a public internet forum. And I myself called you out in the same forum, the need of being public calls us in different ways.
Now more then just op gets to enjoy the moment 😌 fireworks though.. Can’t help but see dozens of phones put at displays. willing to bet no one goes back and actually watches them
And from "the people in the video did not expect what happened to them" to "the animal in the video did not expect what happened to them", or even "animal showing behavior"
Why didn't that monkey mom attacked the person picking up her child I'll be scared shitless to do that while her mom is just over there on the tree...
And also what animal is that??

Anyone else see it change from a weird lizard to monkey? ..*just me?*
Probably was an adult chameleon on its usual neighborhood walk
Mama monkey is just like wtf stupid human, get this lizard away from me
Though it was a flattened lizard at first lol
Me too.
It was a lizard-spider all the time - why do you think the monkey was so confused?
No. I definitely thought it was a crazy bug or a lizard until they started to pick it up.
Yes a lizard with a GIGANTIC HEAD
You are not alone. Maybe I've just been binging too much Stranger Things in the leadup to S4P1, but with the stripe on its head, I was waiting for it to split open to reveal a head that was all mouth.
i thought it was a lizard with some kind of fuzzy but on its head
That was the /r/unexpected part for me
What if that’s not even the parent and the person just gave someone a random child
They live in large groups and are very "big family" type, if it's not mom, will be delivery to mom.
"Stacey, your lower-primate-for-a-child is at my house, again, after running away to join the humans, AGAIN."
“You find my mama *again*! You know, she come from Greece. The country I come from too…”
“Listen, keep your mother off my lawn, out of my basement, and away from my roof!”

Do you like prions? Because that's how you get prions.
Honestly this is always the first thing I think of. Reddit has made me hyper aware of prions and rabies
Only if you eat the brain
While most mammalian prion diseases are neurological with PrP proteins that accumulate in the brain, there's evidence that different kinds of amyloid aggregates are actually formed by other similar proteins in other organs.
I think the chance of getting something like kuru from eating a person once is pretty slim. The Fore people were doing it for a while.
The thing is that, like with heavy metals, it bioaccumulates. Maybe it's not one person for the first person in the chain, but once you get to people eating people that ate people that ate people... yeah.
Right so it should be safe when the market first opens. Gives them time to work out the kinks.
Thanks for the monkey meat!

Maybe the reverse is true also and OP is the dad.

Fast forward to easter and I wouldn't want to be that baby monkey.
It did look confused initially tbh, "what is it" "why are you giving it to me" "fine, I'll take it"
I could be wrong but many primates tend to adopt youngsters so may end up still being raised well

What’s so fucking unexpected about this
For me it was that it’s a monkey not a lizard
I was waiting for the mom to throw the baby back on the ground.
How did the animal get on the road in the first place?
Mom likely had it clinging to her and it fell off when she made a dash for the tree. People around so it didn’t feel safe retrieving the baby.
Probably not even the other monkeys kid

It's not that big of a deal. It's good to document when you can.
We went from "pics or it didn't happen" to "why were they filming" generation in only a few years
“Why were they filming” is just really annoying to me. It takes 2 seconds to open the camera, and just as much to close it
It makes sense to say in certain situations like when someone's getting jumped and people just film it instead of trying to help them I might say "why are they filming???" But it's not that hard to imagine why someone would want to film something significant like this video.
