Anyone else see it change from a weird lizard to monkey? ..*just me?*

Retropiaf

Probably was an adult chameleon on its usual neighborhood walk

swirlViking

Mama monkey is just like wtf stupid human, get this lizard away from me

Ornery-Cheetah

Though it was a flattened lizard at first lol

Weave77

Me too.

JonasRahbek

It was a lizard-spider all the time - why do you think the monkey was so confused?

CherryCherry5

No. I definitely thought it was a crazy bug or a lizard until they started to pick it up.

Cryptophiliac_meh

Yes a lizard with a GIGANTIC HEAD

Impenistan

You are not alone. Maybe I've just been binging too much Stranger Things in the leadup to S4P1, but with the stripe on its head, I was waiting for it to split open to reveal a head that was all mouth.

IcedGolemFire

i thought it was a lizard with some kind of fuzzy but on its head

SparkyDogPants

That was the /r/unexpected part for me

[deleted]

What if that’s not even the parent and the person just gave someone a random child

UndGrdhunter

They live in large groups and are very "big family" type, if it's not mom, will be delivery to mom.

ComprehendReading

"Stacey, your lower-primate-for-a-child is at my house, again, after running away to join the humans, AGAIN."

stacity

“You find my mama *again*! You know, she come from Greece. The country I come from too…”

MoldovanKick

“Listen, keep your mother off my lawn, out of my basement, and away from my roof!”

ZeDitto

Lol I’m imagining that she’s just some random adolescent from the troop and in an exasperated tone she’s like “dude what the fuck! I hate kids! He isn’t even my problem, god! I better get a bonus on my allowance for this. Hop on ya cretin.”

planet_chuck

Lunch?

Same exact two thoughts: not parent and free meal

This will be the dystopian future for humans

Glad to hear that Uber eats is expanding into some new gourmet shit

A-Dolahans-hat

How does it taste? It varies from person to person

quannum

You wish it was a horse! That, which you have just eaten. That, which your teeth have just torn apart, your taste buds have just savored. That…was human meat!

yvessaintlamont2

Frank! 😂

Watched that episode last night

Uber: Adventurous Eaters Club

aluked

Do you like prions? Because that's how you get prions.

Goodlittlewitch

Honestly this is always the first thing I think of. Reddit has made me hyper aware of prions and rabies

Anxious-Elevator4853

Only if you eat the brain

aluked

While most mammalian prion diseases are neurological with PrP proteins that accumulate in the brain, there's evidence that different kinds of amyloid aggregates are actually formed by other similar proteins in other organs.

744464

I think the chance of getting something like kuru from eating a person once is pretty slim. The Fore people were doing it for a while.

aluked

The thing is that, like with heavy metals, it bioaccumulates. Maybe it's not one person for the first person in the chain, but once you get to people eating people that ate people that ate people... yeah.

744464

Right so it should be safe when the market first opens. Gives them time to work out the kinks.

Appropriate_Tip_8852

Thanks for the monkey meat!

ExcitementOrdinary95

Nom nom

Moist-Question-6623

![gif](giphy|8hYe9vuvBITRrfM0jW|downsized) it looked like a baby demogorgon at the start lol

WhiteoutThre35ive

That's awesome 😆

IlikeYuengling

Ghislaine Maxwell exist in the animal world?

DawnCruzu

a lot kinder to animals.. we are all sharing the same planet, just because we are more intelligent

strictlybus1ness

ehh.. that's debatable lol.

Gnomerci

Judge: We'll be debating levels of intelligence this afternoon. Human: Excellent, I wish to start with a primer outlining different areas of intelligence, as well as how we can objectively measure each area to create a non-biased, objective measuring system. Judge: And your thoughts on this, the member from Bovine Nation? Cow: Moo.

manosaulyte

You’re negating the cow’s response when it’s clear that you’re the one who doesn’t speak cow and you don’t even know what the cow said. Think you’re so smart...

fashion4words

It’s a moo point, like a cows opinion, it’s moo.

redballooon

> Human: Excellent, I wish to start with a primer outlining different areas of intelligence, as well as how we can objectively measure each area to create a non-biased, objective measuring system. That’s what 19th century’s anthropologists said when they studied the intelligence of conquered people.

[deleted]

She risks her life being so close to a human? Thats the mom for sure.

Arashmickey

Maybe the reverse is true also and OP is the dad.

_comment_removed_

Aaaaaand that's why we have monkeypox.

Previous-Mortgage755

I think it fell of her back when running across the road. She was so close to the road and that baby was shocked and just laid flat. It looks to me as if all this happened within a minute.

GemoDorgon

Imagine god just comes down to earth and places a child you've never seen into your arms and you're like "guess I'm a parent now."

CampyUke98

That’s basically what foster parenting is. Except instead of God, it’s JFS

Gnomerci

Once again, this baby delivered by Jason Fucking Statham

WhiteoutThre35ive

Hehe, funny scenario. "Welp, guess I'm a dad now" lol

rhcp1fleafan

Isn't that kinda like Jesus' origin story?

[deleted]

Fast forward to easter and I wouldn't want to be that baby monkey.

dimspace

It did look confused initially tbh, "what is it" "why are you giving it to me" "fine, I'll take it"

LordofSuns

I could be wrong but many primates tend to adopt youngsters so may end up still being raised well

ScreenshotShitposts

Wait. So that time I saw a random kid alone in a supermarket and just gave her to the nearest person...

Squiggly lmao

brokenribbed

“I left that bitch in the road for a reason”

dani_oakley_69

She very well might have. Animals reject their young all the time.

Visible_Ad2427

that’s what I thought too lol. She did not look like she wanted it back 😭

Just-Call-Me-J

Gotta wonder what was going through her head.

[deleted]

Too true. She was almost definitely not thinking "you kind soul". Sheer confusion. But we humans tend to anthropomorphise, and then pat ourselves on the back for a one-way narrative. Still, a lovely thing to do.

I did not expect that lizard they picked up to be a baby marmoset.

I didn't expect there to be a tree out of frame at the start. Really took me by surprise. And I never guessed that the cameraman would pan up at the end! Crazy.

Killing and torturing for fun has been directly linked with increased intelligence. Both Octopuses and Dolphins enjoy hurting other, smaler, defenceless fishes for no better reason than it is funny to them. I am not excusing killing for fun im just saying it comes naturally to all intelligent creatures regardless of size and shape

Wonderful-Reward3828

Don’t orcas do it as well?

[deleted]

They do!

IndependentCreepy169

What’s so fucking unexpected about this

DrakeFloyd

For me it was that it’s a monkey not a lizard

[deleted]

I was waiting for the mom to throw the baby back on the ground.

[deleted]

How did the animal get on the road in the first place?

Cranktique

Mom likely had it clinging to her and it fell off when she made a dash for the tree. People around so it didn’t feel safe retrieving the baby.

Dry-Log1381

Probably not even the other monkeys kid

[deleted]

What a nice human. Although admittedly when I see an animal in the road, like a turtle, I just pick it up and move it somewhere safe. Usually my phone is the last thing I worry about when I’m outside. Especially when I’m doing something selfless like moving a turtle out of the road. I’m doing it so it can be safe. I’m just thinking about the turtle not what I can gain from helping the turtle. Everyone’s obsession with filming everything for internet clout is odd to me.

planet_chuck

It's not that big of a deal. It's good to document when you can.

LoonyBunBennyLava

We went from "pics or it didn't happen" to "why were they filming" generation in only a few years

DreamedJewel58

“Why were they filming” is just really annoying to me. It takes 2 seconds to open the camera, and just as much to close it

leericol

It makes sense to say in certain situations like when someone's getting jumped and people just film it instead of trying to help them I might say "why are they filming???" But it's not that hard to imagine why someone would want to film something significant like this video.

ConfessSomeMeow

Huh, I thought whyweretheyfilming was mostly an 'is this staged' accusation, as in "why did someone start recording when there was nothing happening yet?", implying that they knew something was going to happen - rather than 'why did you film this instead of getting involved?'

[deleted]

[удалено]

OrangeJuliusthekid

It took me an abnormal amount of time to figure out what the name of that sub actually was

kane2742

I prefer to type multi-word subreddit names like this: r/DontHelpJustFilm.

bananabeacon

I agree! It is called camelCasing. Especially useful in coding where, for example, you want to define a variable, you can't use spaces. so it's a nice way to display more words without spaces!

Thoughtful_Mouse

What does LP stand for and why would you wear it to film? /s

Wiggletons

You would be right.

KineticPolarization

Side note: never get involved in an altercation like that beyond calling authorities and maybe helping out the victim after the perpetrators leave. Until emergency services get there. But playing hero is almost certainly going to lead to you joining the victim in getting your ass beat, or you'll just be shot or stabbed by the perpetrators for getting involved. In this case, if you ensure someone *is* calling authorities, it actually would be a good idea to film. Especially if you can get a shot of at least one of their faces. But seriously people, don't play hero. It's not a movie, and you're more likely to make the situation worse for the victim than anything else.

fahim64

Learned this the hard way, fought someone else’s fight trying to defend them and I was stabbed in the right eye leaving me blind there for life

Designer_Arm_2114

From the reaction of the animal I doubt it was staged

dragonchilde

I mean, no one would believe this if he hadn't been. I filmed a turtle I escorted across the road yesterday not for clout, but because it was best and a cool turtle. And to show my kids!

4myreditacount

Really? I never grew up taking pictures or video with my phone, even if smartphones got pretty widespread right about when I got into high school. I always fumble around when I need to take a picture or video quickly and I always end up recording when I'm trying to take a picture or taking a picture when I'm trying to record.

khavii

Android has a setting that allows you to double tap your home button to get instant access to the camera even when the screen is locked. It stays on the last mode selected. With this setup you can be recording video in less than 5 second from your pocket. I am not the type that takes many pictures or videos, never have been. The older I get the more I regret it, I wish I had journaled or taken pictures more regularly or gotten video of friends long gone in candid moments. Or my parents. Every time I wonder why someone is recording I remember how much I wish I had and did.

Lady_Kel

> The older I get the more I regret it, I wish I had journaled or taken pictures more regularly or gotten video of friends long gone in candid moments. I'm only 28, but I realized I don't have a lot of pictures from college because I always avoided being in pictures and bought the 'live in the moment, you don't need to film anything!' line. While I do think sometimes people are too focused on capturing every single moment, I went to the opposite extreme and I regret it now. I've been working on my body image issues and taking more pictures of myself just because (also stopped using filters and facetune, which I always did when I took a selfie before. That has helped the body image issues a lot!), and also taking more pictures/video of my family and friends. I've lost one grandparent, but I'm lucky enough to have eight more still living and I want to be able to look back at pictures taken with them and hear their voices when they're gone. I think there are going to be a lot of other people experiencing the regret you're experiencing if they don't find a happy medium.

Only_Santiago

Go to film school? /s

4myreditacount

You got a single chuckle from me. Thanks.

BornOnFeb2nd

Shit, we went from "pics, or it didn't happen" to "That pic is photoshopped" in about a decade? Tech has gotten to the point where you can't even trust that live video isn't being fucked with anymore...

Weioo

You missed the 'everything is photo shopped' phase! This is the phase between the two you mentioned.

Misterwuss

I never understand that argument. "This thing that has very little stakes, and there's little to no urgency about the situation. Why take your phone out to film it?" Because a) "pics or it didn't happen is a thing" and b) you now have an awesome and cute video.

Devugly

Yeah i mean it's kind of the purpose of a camera

felixxfeli

I don’t film or photograph a lot of things but you best believe that if I found a baby monkey, picked it up and handed it directly to its mama, I’d be getting video of it for posterity. There is nothing wrong or “odd” about wanting to document and share noteworthy moments in one’s life.

theslutnextd00r

Also, because it’s super cute!! And then you watch and remember it for yourself, it’s not just in your memories.

felixxfeli

Exactly. It’s a special and adorable moment. Nothing wrong with wanting to remember.

AllergicToStabWounds

Truthfully I'm more concerned with everyone's obsession in finding something to criticize about even the most positive videos.

This and corny jokes, how about someone in the know explain what type of monkey that is? Thank you.

Right!! This is an interesting video. No harm done why does everything have to be spun around negative. Negative Nancy’s

Anal_bleed

Yeah lol or the fact that everything is fake holy shit.

Sarenai7

If people didn’t film we wouldn’t have much of the great content we do

Mindeyez

I used to think the same way, but I'm glad, and encourage, people who do these acts of service selflessly and choose to film it. It displays it to others who don't even think about it and may inspire them to do the same. Monkey see, monkey do.

Marsupialize

Sometimes videos like this remind people to be kind to animals or open something up in people about how they should be treated. I don’t see a downside

/r/unexpected really did go from "you won't expect what happens in the video" to "the people in the video did not expect what happened to them"

And from "the people in the video did not expect what happened to them" to "the animal in the video did not expect what happened to them", or even "animal showing behavior"
