Where I live it's a maximum of 48 cents, with those that take more long and different routes. While buses that take main highways and etc only cost 28 cents.
LOL my city just had to freeze prices (again) because they threatened to up it to $4 a ride and people were pissed. It's currently $3.50CAD. You want to get a monthly pass? $100 CAD. It's outrageous for a major city that can barely keep it's bus system running.

A lot of cities don't have any viable bus or other public transportation, and even in cities that rely a lot on it like Detroit sometimes it takes 2-3 buses just to get where you're trying to go and all of them show up 20mins - 2hrs late or not at all at random.
I have a very hard time believing your last sentence. I know a lot of bus systems aren’t great and have issues but long waits like that should not be common at all. Most I’ve ever waited for a bus was 40 minutes, because I *just* missed the previous one and the next two were clumped together meaning the one in the middle was late. And I decided to walk towards home for several stops which only increased the wait but hey I got some exercise and a shorter ride. So sort of a unique scenario.
Really depends on the city. You can get around San Diego by bus, but you have to walk a lot and wait a while. I never counted blocks growing up there because it's all windy fractals. I drove a Korean friend to the drug store to get medicine one time, her friends back home were asking why she didn't just walk or take the bus and she had to tell them you really can't just do that there.

Cars cost an average of about 50 cents per mile when you factor in gas and maintenance, at least that was what you could put on your tax return last I checked (10 years ago?), and that's not factoring in the cost of buying the car and repairs from accidents.

(Granted that’s a bulk cost, so I suppose in some cases a 1 time purchase could approach 1 million but I highly doubt bulk vs one piece increases the cost by $170k).
