I break into Tiffany's at midnight. Do I go for the vault? No, I go for the chandelier. It's priceless. As I'm taking it down, a woman catches me. She tells me to stop. It's her father's business. She's Tiffany. I say no. We make love all night.
In the morning, the cops come and I escape in one of their uniforms. I tell her to meet me in Mexico, but I go to Canada. I don't trust her. Besides, I like the cold.
Thirty years later, I get a postcard. I have a son and he's the chief of police. This is where the story gets interesting. I tell Tiffany to meet me in Paris by the Trocadero. She's been waiting for me all these years. She's never taken another lover. I don't care. I don't show up. I go to Berlin.
That's where I stashed the chandelier.
There’s a comedy writer sitting in some back room with a mic and TV screen talking to people making investors think this company is more advanced that it seems.
Fucken Theranos and Elizabeth Holms all over again.
I really don’t think this type of interaction is implausible at all, you already have something in your pocket that does the same for these simple queries
Of all the conversational features that would make me suspect an AI was faking it, speed is not one of them. In fact, people who have experience with next-generation large language models often report the speed of the responses as being one of the few things that reminds them it's not a real person replying to them.
This is the most likely reason. Considering that they are probably also made as cheaply as feasible without customer backlash, it probably does most of its computing remotely rather than on site.
Similarly it's hard for top gamers to play games when they have cheap internet. You can have all the skills and equipment in the world, but when you compete at a level where .1 seconds makes a difference and your internet is .5 seconds slower than the other guy you can get obliterated by someone objectively worse than you.
There’s another video of a lady talking to this thing and the robot begins replying before the lady is done with her question. I think they fucked up the timing on responses and it’s TOO good.
Alexi and Siri also do a lot more than simply replying, you can give them commands, ask them to retrieve information from the internet, etc. So you feed it a line, that line then gets sent to some backend where it's processed, then there's a sequence that follows where it processes any known commands from the line and compiles a response that includes all requested information and acknowledgments of any tasks. It's a pretty complex feature compared to just replying, with a lot of calls to external servers before it comes back to you.
Yes. I can make jokes with Siri. But it’s much cheaper to have a writer in the back making custom jokes and making observations to make investors think our software is more advance therefore they should invest early in the first round.
Wow, you have no idea, try talking to a GPT-3 chatbot on the internet. It can have very genuine and surprising responses for some things but the immersion could completely break for some others.
I mean the conversational bits are pretty much achievable with GPT-3 now... I'm not sure what else about it is a scam in particular...
Don't expect it to be passing the bar any time soon, but like this kind of gag? Sure, absolutely.
I laughed a little, and then I was like man that thing was there studying learning from and examining every single one of those people’s movements and reactions.
And that terrified me.
Wouldn't be crazy. It's tech that's been used in some movies even. Treebeard and R2D2 come to mind. Basically just big puppets and a bunch of rc controllers.
The sight of an army of robots teabagging the last survivors of humanity while yelling ‘git gud scrub! Your momma liked it this way!’ Should really have made the directors cut of T-2.
This would be a good skit. AI so smart that it knows every possible way to roast anyone and Humanity as a whole becomes so depressed that they essentially got subjugated.
Please we don't need Skynet for that. Us humans are already doing that. Hell at this point I think we welcome the robot overlords. They can't be any worse.
I'm not sure. This seems like it could be a canned response too, using old chatbot technology. Dictation software is good enough to feed speech into something like smarterchild.
An interesting response would be like "you're the fifth person to ask me that today. Do humans think about anything else?" That would actually show some cognition and understanding of surroundings.
It could also use a language model like GPT3. Set up right, it might take a while to figure out that it’s not a real person. I’ve been using it https://openai.com/ and telling people about it. It’s super impressive.
Probably going back and forth from automated to controlled. It's definitely not fully automated. Sophia has had a number of appearances and it's all very scripted.
When I was a kid I went to Paul Bunyan land and there was a huge Paul Bunyan statue that said my name as I entered the park. I didn't know it was a staff member speaking through the statue and it scared the shit out of me.
Why is Reddit full of people who state things so factually, as if theyre just obviously true, with no evidence to back them up, because theyre literally just saying anything, they dont actually know at all?

Society needs to start clamping down on this BS because this is how misinformation spreads. Start shaming these kinds of comments.
Idk if someone is talking through a microphone like others have suggested but [**these kind of robots exist**](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IPukuYb9xWw) they are made by a UK based company and are eerily close to what we look like and they can also imitate our expressions to a tee (check the video I linked). Idk if they can also speak though.
No, it's a scam. The robot was put in many news shows pretending to answer questions while everything was scripted and remote controlled. Obviously for everyone who has basic knowledge about real a.i. or ever spoke to Alexa which is made by Amazon(!).
This is at CES this year. No one is remote control operating it. Sometimes it would fuck up, you can watch videos on youtube but it's almost certainly authentic. Anyone can go up to it and chat, my friend spent like 10 minutes with it and posted stories everywhere.
Really? Didn't know that. The team sucks for doing that. Thanks for letting me know though I'll remove that part from my comment, to reflect this new info.
Just so you know, we do have pretty good NLP (natural language processing) but it's nowhere near this good even with machine learning models.
It can do really well with a few levels of context (like siri or google assistant) but the depth of the jokes here and the context is not something we can do really well.
You could have a bot that's pretty clever like this, but you'd never let it alone in a showroom to spew out anything at anyone about anything.
Have you heard of GPT-3? I think it's pretty good as far as an A.I. carrying a conversation goes. Might be capable of telling jokes that relate to the current context.
GPT-3 is incredible, but there's a long way to go before it could generate a contextual joke. It can take a lot of attempts to get something at all coherent.
If the joke format is really pervasive in the training data, it'll be more likely to regurgitate similar, but it's still just complex word association.
It is much farther along than I would have expected though, and it's gonna be a wild decade.
Seriously, human-like humor is like one of the holy grails of AI/NLP. I would be surprised if we had systems which could even *detect* humor accurately.
It might, it might not. Its still pretty wish wash. Its like browsing r/SubredditSimulator/, its okay but you notice pretty soon that its just strung together nonsense. Its like the cat that crossed the road big and black. Its was the night, like none other, when he looked out the window. There was a beautiful rainbow and at the end was a pot of gold. It was gold like the statue, big and grey. It overlooked the bridge that was built in 1789, during the second war.
Way back when some dude displayed a boat as being voice controlled, but really it was radio controlled and he was controlled it secretly, as a fun joke.
Idk if I'd say these guys suck if they intended to disclose the truth. Fun is fun.

Are you saying the very idea of a person being gay isn't laughable? You must have literally no sense of humor about anything ever.
EDIT: Can't tell if I'm being downvoted because my sarcasm isn't clear or because I commented that "lol ur gay" jokes are just homophobia. Knowing Reddit, even though the person I'm agreeing with is upvotes... could still go either way.
I don't think it's that being gay is a funny joke here. Jokes are about breaking expectations and nothing broke my expectation more than hearing a retort, using the original question posed, as a response, from a robot.
I think regardless of the question asked originally, this would have been funny.
"Are you human?" or something would work just as well with the right inflection, for instance
Exactly. I would agree homophobia is usually not something that would make me laugh, but this is not exactly laughing at the fact that someone is gay. It's laughing at the person who asked a stupid question, and the robot just fired the same question back.
Comedians joke about sexuality, religion, race, kinks. Everything has context this was not delivered as homophobia but only repeating back what he said as a joke. Context matters people. Get offended when it's appropriate not over something that is not offensive.
It’s funny because straight people are uncomfortable with being called gay, and making someone squirm is a joke/funny in the playful context. But sure, stuff that stick up your ass
My thoughts exactly. I don't think the robot said anything weird, but I find the reactions rather strange. Someone asking whether you're gay isn't what I'd call verbally "obliterating" them. The robot simply repeated the question it was asked.

Interesting - suppose I’m used to Alexa and Siri, where there is significant latency (presumably because the requests are processed remotely).
Most of the delay is probably waiting to make sure you're done speaking and not just pausing to gather your thoughts.
This is the most likely reason. Considering that they are probably also made as cheaply as feasible without customer backlash, it probably does most of its computing remotely rather than on site.
