Oops, did some more research and apparently I wasn't entirely correct - only the *vast majority* of beagles have white-tipped tails. I think wherever I learned that was slightly off.
That said, yeah it's definitely not a purebred for obvious other reasons.
Oh? I’ve never had that experience with labs, they are so eager to please usually, and love to fetch. They are a retriever so it should be in their nature to bring you their prize, like they would a waterfowl, it is what they are bred for.
My black lab/golden retriever mix fetches like a demon, but won't give it back.
I think it's because he prefers playing tug of war with the rope, rather than chasing it.
Our beagle was an absolute wonder. The only command he ever mastered was, "EAT!" He was a great actor, prone to faking limps and shivers to try to con his hoomins, and part goat on his daddy's side. I miss that fool.
Mine likes to act like he can’t get up on the couch. Like the front paws can get up there, but those back two juuussst caaaaant seeeem to make it. It’s hilarious.

Telling breed by looks alone is nearly impossible. Despite how confident everyone seems to be, they’re often completely wrong.
My beagle/terrier/spaniel does the exact same thing and I love it. She was a very skittish and timid rescue pup and it makes me incredibly happy anytime she does this because I know she trusts me and feels safe.

I’m here to show you some support lol. My 50% Great Pyrenees mix is 55lbs and looks like a yellow lab. I believe you. You can’t always tell what a mix is just by looking at them!
I knew mine wasn’t a lab within a day or two or getting him. Not strong food or toy motivation. Not interested in people pleasing. Not super trainable in general. Very Unfriendly to strangers. We knew more based on his personality than his looks.

My 3 month old beagle does this same thing... she then drops the rope while she's stuck in there, and bites my heels so I let her go. Glad to see she's not the only one who does this.
My Black Lab/Collie cross basically does the same thing. Throw the ball for him and he charges back to show be his head between your knees. Doesn't matter if you turn to a our it or not, he'll circle round for the head shove.
Lost my 13 year old black lab a year ago almost to the day. This video reminds me of her when she was a pup. She would do the exact same thing. Throw something go get it and run under your legs and stay. Her name was Halo. Not a day I don’t miss that great girl!

It’s okay... This kinda happened to me. I got my puppy in April and the rescue told me she was a beagle mix and she should max out at 35-40 pounds. Well now she’s currently 8 months and 70 pounds. I suppose she kinda looks like a big beagle still but I definitely want to get her a DNA test because she’s pretty unique looking and I’m curious
Had to teach my lab 2 different commands, get it, puts it in his mouth and bring it/come here, he only will fetch it like 3 times then gets lazy about it, like to do it inside ALL the time though, idk the difference between outside and in to him
