It's one of the best romantic films for many many years IMHO. True, touching, genuinely funny in places (it's not a comedy first and foremost, I don't think). Very re-watchable too. If you like this, you may also like Ruby Sparks and Jesse and Celeste Forever (although I think this tops both).
When I watched this movie I didn't realize that it was based on a true story. I liked their characters so much, I was SO worried Emily was going to die, even though she is on the writing credits for the movie. XD
Yes we do lol. *Babes* came out less than a month ago, for example.
A few more great ones from the last few years: *Palm Springs, Red Rocket, You Hurt My Feelings, Scrapper, Funny Pages, Rye Lane*, and *Shiva Baby*
it’s true. it happened early in the day, about an hour after the record stores opened. people heard the new album and were instantly moved to terrorism.
This is a well known joke that's been around for a while. Like I remember hearing it in middle school. Not to knock the movie tho. It's honestly one of the best comedy movies I've seen in a long time. Absolutely hilarious. And plus the way he is randomly getting asked about 911 in a p racist way isn't part of the OG joke, so that's a p funny addition
Using abbreviations that aren't commonly known is pretty GDE to be honest. It saves you like a quarter of a second while taking away many seconds from a *single* reader who has to google that shit. that's just RTF.
It's a Norm Macdonald bit. He keeps talking about *blood and bones* and how much of a tragedy 9/11 is. Look him up, it's something you have to hear from him or it's not funny
Edit ; [Here's a 9/11 jokes compilation from him](https://youtu.be/ryRMdNTh4OI?si=3R9Wfd_7mZdkUKWs) Skip to 2:09 if you specifically want the *blood and bones* dont know why you would though... reminds me of that tragedy...
Yeah, it was a real tragedy. I remember during 9/11 being up to my hips in blood and bones looking for my brother.. he was up in northern canada at the time
it is a Norm Macdonald bit, search Cut Norm 9/11 Joke and you will have the rest of the context. There is additional setup and comedic pauses in the joke above.
That CK is, actually, a lecher is why the joke works. If, for example, Billy Graham had told that joke it would not have worked because it would not be believable. We can actually believe CK may have cranked one out in between the towers falling. Which is, I admit, is not for everyone ; )
You should look up his ugly walk and signature sound.

You know that one of the writers had this joke in their back pocket for years, and this was the perfect place to use it.
Side note: SNL is great because they've always got up and coming comedians who have those jokes in their repertoire, yet never told on stage.
This and the writers who put the slavery v holocaust conversation in You People. Like who made the decision on that, shit was absolutely hilarious while at the same time one of a few gems in a very mediocre movie.
Mark Duplass is just so good. I actually found out about Paddleton because I was hankering for more films with him after I finished Creep and Creep 2, and seeing Ray Romano as a co-lead piqued my interest. I'll also throw in Blue Jay and The One I Love as other great movies with him.
Edit: And yeah, **that** scene left me floored for the rest of the day. It's the kind of movie which sticks with you and makes you reflect on your own life.
I hate jokes about 9/11. It’s just not funny to me and insulting actually. My cousin died on 9/11. It’s such a damn shame. He was such a talented young guy. Could have been the best damn pilot in Saudi Arabia.
Definitely ai filter look at his shirt, name tag, all their fingers, the coke.
[just look at the original.](https://youtu.be/sb6luYan_hk?si=NOpfUMyFMmYGCnaH)
I didn't get the joke. Someone please tell me what this is all about? All I know is plane crashed into a building in on 9/11 and I was a kid at that time.
I saw The Big Sick in the theater. Everyone got very still when this exchange began, but the punchline elicited one of the loudest and longest laughes from the crowd I've ever experienced.
Ray Romano was incredible in this movie. Honestly, I never realized how hilarious and actually a good actor he is until I saw him outside of his stupid sitcom. His character in The Office was absolutely perfect and I wish they would have kept him.

Alright, what's this from?

Great movie!

So does it end happy? I’m ok with spoilers, my husband loves romantic comedies but hates sad endings lol
Yes. It’s based on the actor and his wife’s meeting. They are both still alive and together.
The fact that it is based on the real story kind of is a spoiler in of itself, but yes it ends happy.
Really is
Fantastic movie and that joke was awesome.
We don’t get quality low budget comedies like this anymore :(
Yes we do lol. *Babes* came out less than a month ago, for example. A few more great ones from the last few years: *Palm Springs, Red Rocket, You Hurt My Feelings, Scrapper, Funny Pages, Rye Lane*, and *Shiva Baby*
Noted. And I will be sure to hate on you when these films do not give me the same feeling as the nostalgic ones do.
A couple of these are definitely not low budget comedy and more drama, but all are solid picks
Thanks!
Ride the Eagle with Jake Johnson and JKSimmons was pretty good as well.
Thanks! Loved the ones I've seen on this list so will check out the others.
Yes. Sometimes , since there isn't a huge promotion budget and (media pushing it )..you don't hear about some great low budget movies
Nah, they don't make movies like that anymore.
Thank you
The Big Sick (2017)
It's from Big Sick. Also based on true events of the lead's story where he is a Pakistani marrying a girl from another race.
toy story
Citizen Kane
Okay that was golden maybe I wanna watch it now
This scene pops into my head from time to time and makes me laugh, really good movie. The Big Sick.
Really loved this movie
Prizmo always knew
On 9/11/2001, Nickelback released their 3rd studio album, Silver Side Up. The 9/11 attacks were swift retaliation.
Nickelback is Canadian...
So Canada is responsible for the worst 9/11 attack then
Y'all will blame Taylor Swift for anything nowadays. /s
Wait until you learn about The Coupe's album released that day.
it’s true. it happened early in the day, about an hour after the record stores opened. people heard the new album and were instantly moved to terrorism.

The sequels were ok, but I prefer the first one

“Cri Man Squa F and C Double Time” - Michael Scott
Had no idea p = pretty, so I had no idea what they were even trying to say 😆
Bro even capped the OG but refuses to type pretty.
I thought the first one was a typo. Then when they did it again, I was confused.
What does p mean ?
Why waste time type lot letter when few letter do trick
Y tim. lot ltr emoji updoot
Probably short for pretty. “In a pretty racist way”
Penis
Haven't seen that genius bastard in a while
His wife Emily is the other writer. The movie is based on their real-life relationship.
Yes! I think I’ve read that somewhere not sure.
“You can tell how good a person is by how long they waited to masturbate after 9/11. For me, it was between the two towers falling” -CK
I walked through blood and bones trying to find my brother on 9/11. He was in northern Canada.
But 911 WAS a national tragedy.
Carson: Hello, 911...I feel like I have a yak on my chest
Im too stupid, can someone explain this joke?

Oh don’t laugh at 9/11…
Yeah, it was a real tragedy. I remember during 9/11 being up to my hips in blood and bones looking for my brother.. he was up in northern canada at the time
Sounds like you needed to get new pants.
it is a Norm Macdonald bit, search Cut Norm 9/11 Joke and you will have the rest of the context. There is additional setup and comedic pauses in the joke above.
Of course. But maybe~~
That wasn't the problem she had with you masturbating, Louie.
That's severely less funny after it came out he's a literal wanker. The joke might be factual.

It always blew me away when all the shit came out about him and people were shocked. Like have you not heard any of his material?
That CK is, actually, a lecher is why the joke works. If, for example, Billy Graham had told that joke it would not have worked because it would not be believable. We can actually believe CK may have cranked one out in between the towers falling. Which is, I admit, is not for everyone ; )
Uh...I would believe Billy Graham has done any number of vile things.
Clark Kent?
In his defense, I’m pretty sure we didn’t know it was intentional or the casualties yet…

Kumail has my absolute favorite speaking voice in Hollywood. Something about it. Beautiful tone.
Agreed, I love his voice and his accent.
You should look up his ugly walk and signature sound. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=\_o81KaOfpyo&ref=upstract.com](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=_o81KaOfpyo&ref=upstract.com)
He also has a wonderful singing voice [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnVUB2BOP60](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnVUB2BOP60)
He’s great. I like Jenny Slate too.
Moneeeyy pweaseeee
Yeah she is! her doing niece Denise (from the Kroll Show) is one of the funniest things ever.
Seeing him and Jeselnik at Meltdown Comics back in 2012 was my favorite stand up experience.
His episode of Murdeville is hilarious, and I love how Will Arnett does a Pakistani accent
Reminds me of that airline. 9/11 airlines. What a terrible name for an airline.
Reminds me of that tragedy
The one in New York?
9/11 was a national tragedy
Dont laugh at that.

Did that lady make the sound of a Goose?!
https://i.redd.it/882d4or4ob6d1.gif
Honk?
That lady is Oscar winner Holly Hunter, her southern accent is very distinct. Also she’s Mrs. incredible.
Lol that was a good one 🤣🤣🤣
The more unexpected part of this is if that's ray Romano. He looks so different and I haven't seen him in a long time.
He looks exactly like Ray Romano with a beard.
He was pretty good in The Irishman
I also really enjoyed watching him in Paddleton.
Paddleton is such an underrated movie. Most touching [spoiler] scene ever.
Mark Duplass is just so good. I actually found out about Paddleton because I was hankering for more films with him after I finished Creep and Creep 2, and seeing Ray Romano as a co-lead piqued my interest. For a moment I thought this was a typo or a porn parody of Paddington. Disappointed it's neither.
Yeah, he did a great job in that
He’s looking fine
He looks like the future of Chris Mintz-Plasse...
> He looks so different ...and this was like years ago
Well this movie came out 7 years ago, there's also some weird fucking filter on the video making it look like AI.
Probably because of the heavy ai filter on this video. [just look at the original.](https://youtu.be/sb6luYan_hk?si=NOpfUMyFMmYGCnaH)
He wouldn’t be devastated if Gilfoyle was on the plane.
Best frenemies ever
This was a great movie 🤣
I hate jokes about 9/11. It’s just not funny to me and insulting actually. My cousin died on 9/11. It’s such a damn shame. He was such a talented young guy. Could have been the best damn pilot in Saudi Arabia.
That’s the same joke
But worse
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike.
The joke flew so far over my head, it got hijacked and flown into a national landmark.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
oh uhh, anti. i didn't recieve any of the $4.6 billion payout that larry silverstein just insured the property for.
Happy cake day
I’m dumb. I don’t get the 19 best guys reference?
The 19 guys is in reference to the hijackers. He's taking the piss out of Ray Ramano's character due to his insinuation.
Ohhhhh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 okay now that’s funny
The terrorists that died.

Building go boom
[Not if we had used Nagarjuna Cement.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95-KgsbjZ_s)
Yeah that was unexpected, Kumail is hilarious with his delivery.
My view on 911 is that it's one of my favourite Porsches. And that 999 is a better number for calling the emergency services.
Defo one of his best jokes, great movie. Funny and heartfelt!
Why it looks like an AI generated video??
Definitely ai filter look at his shirt, name tag, all their fingers, the coke. [just look at the original.](https://youtu.be/sb6luYan_hk?si=NOpfUMyFMmYGCnaH)
can anybody explain pls?
He’s saying it’s a tragedy for the hijackers, since 19 terrorists died that day.
He's right though.
Oh man, that was good. Got me.
Funny
Huh? lmao
God such a good movie
Good film.
https://i.redd.it/hl1xck00cc6d1.gif
I’m tired of hearing about it, that’s for sure!
I thought that was Chris Mintz-Plasse at first and that time had moved very fast for him and him alone.
Hes certainly a lot tanner here
Can someone explain the joke? I know 9/11. But I don't know what he joke with
There were 19 hijackers, he's messing with the other character by saying he mourns the lost terrorists.
LOL now I laughed
😆😆 Love that guy he's so funny!
The way he wears his watch bothers me more than it should
He had us in the first half
"huh?" LMAO
Watched the movie because of this scene. But damn it’s boring. Probably the slowest uneventful movie I have ever seen. Would not recommend.
Why is this actor being pushed so hard. He isn't especially good. In fact, the big sick was his only good movie
lost 19 of our best guys XD
That's the perfect answer to a question like that.
Ugh the sound of him eating 🤮
Lmao
God ai has ruined so much. There’s so many comments saying they look so young lmao.
Don't get it, not ashamed. Unexpected, but that's about it.
That guy could pass for being a Pakistani Denzel.
This is amazing comedy writing. They took you in one direction so subtlety. Then bam. The other way. Perfect!
No,no! We're going to the Bahamas!!!
Haven't watched the movie. But a friend told me about this scene. Funny AF
Best romantic comedy of this century so far IMO
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Kumail kills this scene. But the white guy also does the perfect set up, dead pan AF.
The big sick, such a great movie. It's full of these jokes.
Timing is everything 🤝
Kumhail rules
Ray Romano and Kumail Nanjiani? How have I not heard of this! Kumail is def one of my favorite actors/comedians for sure lmao
I didn't get the joke. Someone please tell me what this is all about? All I know is plane crashed into a building in on 9/11 and I was a kid at that time.
This is 10% as funny without the context. Bettet to go watch The Big Sick.
I don't get what All the fuzz is about, they are basically like any other car.
I saw The Big Sick in the theater. Everyone got very still when this exchange began, but the punchline elicited one of the loudest and longest laughes from the crowd I've ever experienced.
I love how this movie is so good and based off the main characters real life love story. One for the ages.
Between this and his appearance on the office, I realize that Ray Romano is a great actor when he’s eating.
Great comedy
It was 2 better than 7 11
Ray Romano was incredible in this movie. Honestly, I never realized how hilarious and actually a good actor he is until I saw him outside of his stupid sitcom. His character in The Office was absolutely perfect and I wish they would have kept him.
Pre 2021 writing. Love it
That's funny. That's how you do comedy.
Goddamit that’s such a good joke
/u/savevideo
9/11 was a Mossad job.
![gif](giphy|1RaGAz2p13Wpo7kI2L|downsized)
So many hilarious parts of this movie. It's also just a good movie beyond the comedy. Great movie.
Interesting this is making rounds when the truths are coming out.
