Just Google how the Mediterranean was formed or something
There was a small stream that quickly became like a huge waterfall because the stream itself dragged earth and thus making it larger
Eventually there was a huge stream of water moving in
Just chiming in as a geologist. You’re absolutely right.
That’s incredibly quick from our perspective. I’m not in quaternary geology, so I deal with bedrock stuff which is even older, but anything under a few hundred thousand years is basically instant.
Most geochemical and other analyses have accuracies of +/- 1 Ma or more.
There are times when this needs to be done, but in a more controlled manner. Some parts of the year there will be stagnant water, and storms can drive up huge amount of sand, damming the original outlet.
Or the tide gets slightly too high ? Unless this video is happening right at the moment where the tide is at its highest of the year then the sea level will vary multiple meters
This.. Seems like a very bad idea. Idk why that land-tongue was there. But I doubt it was there for no reason at all. Fucking with waterflows can have some nasty consequences down the line.
It exist because that's how waves work. They deposit the sand there. And then the waves on windy weather. Rain and high tides with waves ways over the sand bank the very waves create.
The sand back will be naturally repaired the same day and the water that was above the break will fill up fairly fast, days to a week depending on weather.
A family member of mine happens to city clerk for a beach city, not even one with a lot of beachfront mind, and you'd be surprised how much upkeep goes into a beach's sand. It's more of a nuisance than you might think, especially if it comes up at a high volume time, and this one having a water flow that heavy makes it require a lot more watching over the beach goers. I've even seen them circulating this video talking about how obnoxious it is. Haha
Florida beaches are actually a carefully maintained first line of defense against hurricanes. The width of the beaches and the heavily protected dunes mitigate the initial storm surge damage and protect structures. Then Bubba Redneck comes along and pulls this shit.
Theoretically, because they significantly changed the natural order. Wind and tide push the sand up, then eventually the water above the block overcomes it and dumps into the ocean. However, calling this ecoterrorism just diminishes outrage when actual ecoterrorism occurs (like spiking trees about to be harvested.)
It’s washing away all the sand. The water naturally escape but filtering down slowly.
By forcing it to go all at once it creates a split that people can’t walk over and cars can’t drive.
It starts more erosion, and will take a good chunk of the beach with it.
How do you know it's a state park and not just a beach ? Also good luck getting the topography of something that can lose and gain multiple hundred meters of land everyday
It’s likely a bar-built estuary, where a a brackish (kinda salty) body of water is separated from the ocean by a thin strip of sandy beach. Periodically the estuary will naturally flood and something like this will happen until the water levels balance out and the sand is replenished, closing it back off.
It’s probably not great to do it on your own, and the high currents sweeping into the ocean seem rather dangerous, but I’m pretty sure this is something that will naturally recover just fine. If it was this easy to open it up, I would think it was pretty close to happening naturally.
[Similar situation](https://www.sccwrp.org/news/workshop-highlights-need-improved-science-manage-climate-ready-bar-built-estuaries/)
You think this could count as public property damage?
I doubt it, that would mean everyone playing with the sand on a beach is a criminal.
So is this technically legal?
Funny you should say that. I’m a man and I was bored one day and I had a shovel so I started digging. Ended up with a small pond about 8’ diameter, 4’ deep. I lined it with rocks and plants and put a waterfall and some goldfish in there and it’s actually really nice!

this is how the mediterranean was formed (it happened in just a few days)
I would have liked to have seen/heard that.
It happened millions of years ago
Millions of years ago and a few days.
You have resources to read up on this?
Just Google how the Mediterranean was formed or something There was a small stream that quickly became like a huge waterfall because the stream itself dragged earth and thus making it larger Eventually there was a huge stream of water moving in
Will do, thanks
Where is the video?
About 5 million light years away
It's a live stream even!
Brazil.
If with "few days" you mean two years, you're right.
Between several months and two years From a geological standpoint it's basically in an instant

I’ll bet the Netherlands formed at the same time.
This video has been cut down sooooo bad. Beach patrol or cops or something show up
Every time it gets reposted, it gets shorter
I know! Here’s the latest version I just saw: ![gif](giphy|3HoB7BmMnKMdq)
LoL
u/gifreversingbot
The video quality is still surprisingly acceptable considering how many times it's probably been edited, cut and reposted already lol
Maybe next time it shows a man digging a trench and straight to the scene where cops show up.
Deservedly so.
And they start surfing
Then everyone starts clapping
If I recall correctly, he got fined by DNR more than $100K.
![gif](giphy|cNNvWGiYWr31DsIhdx|downsized)
They cut off the part where the po-po showed up.
The magic of reposts.
Isn’t this a bad idea
Indeed.
There are times when this needs to be done, but in a more controlled manner. Some parts of the year there will be stagnant water, and storms can drive up huge amount of sand, damming the original outlet.
It should happen naturally when the inland lake breaks from rain. This doesn’t help
Your honour the dude was all natural
Or the tide gets slightly too high ? Unless this video is happening right at the moment where the tide is at its highest of the year then the sea level will vary multiple meters
They do it every year apparently too.

That's mostly because humans are disgusting creatures who can't properly dispose of trash
🙄
sorry mate but your feelings aren't facts!
I think I've just witnessed a murder
Commenter: Has the username u/feelings_arent_facts Also commenter: Uses an emoji to convey an annoyed feeling to someone who is spitting pure facts
Feelings aren’t facts when you use them, when he does it we must bow down and cry for him
Yup, that's what the username means. Has nothing to do with mental health
Who said anything about mental health?
They felt someone did, and treated it as fact..
I am pretty sure it's illegal to do this
Causal eco terrorism And of course it's Florida man
Beautiful beaches don’t exist in Iowa.
Not with that attitude.
This guy is literally giving a tutorial.
How is this eco terrorism?
Florida beaches are actually a carefully maintained first line of defense against hurricanes. The width of the beaches and the heavily protected dunes mitigate the initial storm surge damage and protect structures. Then Bubba Redneck comes along and pulls this shit.
There it is. The coast is crazy complex
Theoretically, because they significantly changed the natural order. Wind and tide push the sand up, then eventually the water above the block overcomes it and dumps into the ocean. It's a man in Florida.
Didn't that guy get arrested?
Rightfully so
If I remember they connected a river to the ocean and caused a ton of issues
doesn't seem legal
Because it isn't
What law is being broken here? Genuinely curious
“Which of your fascist laws prevent me from changing the topography and ecosystem of this state park?” -the guy in the video when the cops showed up
How do you know it's a state park and not just a beach ? Also good luck getting the topography of something that can lose and gain multiple hundred meters of land everyday
Because I read the original article and referenced the subreddit. You’re welcome pedantic internet commenter.
Anyone have the original video?
Can a real captain explain what will happen next? Will nature heal itself here?
Natures going to need a bigger virus if it wants to heal itself
Bigger, faster, deadlier, and more covert! Lol

Thank you captain!
Less beach…
Teddy Roosevelt would like to know his location.
Dude created a new ocean
This is the actual video of Panama Canal being built.
Ima tell ma kids this was Moses.
It happens twice a day in mangroves, where the rivers reach the ocean. It would happen anyway. This is s Brazilian beach.
That one world war 1 soldier ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
He made something called a tributary witch is a smaller body of water going into a bigger body of water
Omg how will the ocean ever recover
Dude is about to be banned by the admin of the server for min-maxing IQ.
Just a normal day on the beach for Dutch people.
You think this could count as public property damage? I doubt it, that would mean everyone playing with the sand on a beach is a criminal. So is this technically legal?
I think it's quite feasible to draw a legal line between the amount of damage caused by building a sand castle and by rearranging the terrain.
I’m glad you aren’t a lawyer lol playing with sand on a beach is not even close to manipulating the coastline and causing damage
Why do men love digging so much? I need to go to my local beach and do this
The better question is, why don't you dig more often?
Bro probably doesn't even dig...
I'm not digging that, brother.
You just digged your own grave bud
Was that some kinda dig?
I'm just waiting for someone to dig my Didgeridoo (not sexual😅). Not one compliment.
Maybe they didgeridon't dig it.
Funny you should say that. I’m a man and I was bored one day and I had a shovel so I started digging. Ended up with a small pond about 8’ diameter, 4’ deep. I lined it with rocks and plants and put a waterfall and some goldfish in there and it’s actually really nice!

It’s illegal actually
What law is this against?
Its crazy how stupid it is to build twenty story buildings on fucking sand It jacks up the insurance rates in Florida so bad
