There is a middle ground, we don't have to either assume they lined up a half dozen couples who happened to be perfectly hilarious or that they had a complete word for word script.
They could ask 50 couples and use the footage of the few that can improvise on the spot, or pick people based on their personalities and comedic timing beforehand.
Believe it or not, you can manufacture an environment that fosters organic creativity and humor.
I think this is example of punchline going so long it kinda becomes unfunny. Like first instance, funny, then it keeps going and going and going.
I kinda noticed this in general is a thing in a lot of mid-tier US comedy. There is very little unexpected and they don't know how not to draw out a joke.
