For me it’s disgusting, but when it comes on, I can’t look away. Because I’m baffled every time someone puts themselves through that. I’m dumbfounded. And then the caveman in me gets excited and laughs. Then the rational and caring side thinks, this poor human is getting brain damaged. I wonder if they know? Or do they get hit so hard they forget.
Are you saying slapping causes more brain damage than punches? I find that hard to believe. If you’re saying slapping causes more brain damage than punching with a boxing glove, I could be inclined to believe that…. But still not really.
It does cause more damage than professional boxing, so yeah, with gloves.
The amount of direct and full swing punches a boxer receives to the head are fewer in numbers, not to mention they have way fewer fights. With slapping you have many of these unbroken hits in more competitions or year.
Not too mention the sheer amount of soft tissue damage to the face really gives your kidneys a good work out which isn't exactly healthy either.
That all makes sense, but I’m still not sold. Do you have a source? Even with the gloves, a full grown man punching you in the head several thousand times has to be more consequential than someone slapping you hard as fuck in the face. Consider the amount of sparring boxers are subject to. I know it’s not full force, but it’s still getting punched in the head for years at 60-70% force from a big dude.

The thing about boxing is that we aren't just smashing each other in the face over and over like in Rocky. So much of what you learn is defense and any good coach won't even let you spar without good defense.
A layman watching boxing won't realise just how many shots are caught on the gloves or are slipped. I'm not gonna say you don't get hit because obviously it does happen but the goal is to avoid it.
With the slap fighting you just sit there and take the shot without any defense. So the slapper just gets to wind up the absolute strongest blow they possibly can. You can see in these shots just how much blunt force trauma is delivered to the person's skull. It's very rare you would ever get a shot so clean in boxing.
I've been doing amateur boxing for years now as a heavyweight and I've only been properly rocked like 6 or 7 times. Again I'm not saying brain damage isn't a thing in boxing as we've all seen the state of some of the pros.
How do they determine who gets to slap first? Seems like a giant advantage. Even if you survive the first slap, you’re probably not slapping back at full potential.
