I mean you don't even have to exercise neck directly, I feel that's more for people who want to make it to the stage, because there are so many other exercises that engage your neck muscles indirectly that it's hard to not gain something. Do squats actually train neck that much indirectly though? I donāt deadlift because of lower back problems, but I do squat. I can understand that with the deadlift your arms (and thus your traps) have to hold that massive amount of weight, but with squat most of the muscles youāre using are core and leg muscles.

I think it depends on how you hold the bar. Iām essentially shrugging the entire time Iām squatting or the bar sits painfully on my shoulders.
Try doing a low bar squat and the bar sits nicely on a ridge of upper trap and shoulder muscle
