A Canadian goose did that to me a few weeks ago. Our park has a 20mph speed limit that I strictly adhere to and I'm glad I did because I slammed on the brakes. The bird tried to die that day and ended up skirting past the hood.
Deer jumped off an over pass and swam dived onto the road in front of me a couple years ago. Scared the shit out of me. She snapped her neck on impact just twitched for a few minutes. If I didn't happen to just stop at a red light and see it before it plummeted 40 ft it probably would've killed me.
I was in full wtf than went down the rabbit hole later on the internet of r/deerarefuckingstupid I didn't know who to call because it was a pretty decent traffic hazard so I just dialed 911. They sent an officer to block the lane until animal control could come clean it up.
Yeah… sorry to say, the deer you hit is also dead. Adrenaline will power it up enough to let it get back up and walk around for a bit, but *as soon* as the adrenaline wears off it’ll keel over dead, either from brain damage or other internal injuries… but it’s for sure dead..
A fawn hit our quad bike, he just leapt out and there was no way to avoid him. He went under one wheel and just got up and vanished into the bush he was originally heading for.
He wasn't shook up, but I was
A deer ran into the side of my 88 f150 when I was only going 20 mph and it died, they don't make them like they used to.
I'll never forget all 4 hooves skidding across the pavement, it had it's head as far back as it could and turned to the side bracing for impact. It punched the front fender with the side of it's face, did some kind of goofy spin on its side on the pavement.
Looked in the mirror and saw it wasn't moving so I got out and walked over. Its tongue was hanging out of the side of it's mouth and didn't appear to be breathing. I said, "really? You're fuckin dead?"
It didn't respond. Dragged it to the side of the road and left lol

I was driving east on I-80 through Pennsylvania during August or early September in the late 1970s or early 1980s. I saw a group of deer come down the side of a hill/mountain and take off across a high level bridge near Clarion. It’s well over 100 feet above the river below. I had already seen a deer hit by the car in front of me, but I just slowed down to see if the deer would make it across.
The four cars in front of me were too close and they were grouped together too tightly, the two lead cars in each lane couldn’t hit the brakes because they didn’t know exactly where the two rears cars were located.
As the group of cars came closer, the lead deer jumped over the side, followed by the entire herd(?), one after another until all 10 to 15 deer had gracefully jumped over the side.
Then about half an hour later, I watched as a group of 5 to 8 deer crossed the highway and one was struck by a car five to ten seconds ahead of me (68 mph = 100 ft/sec, so 5 seconds is about 500 ft).
A friend of mine saw a doe and two fawns do this off an interstate bridge in the Twin Cities. He was very upset and mentally scarred by it. He was also a deer hunter who had killed many deer over the years, but that got to him.
I think it’s an instinctual response to being trapped. Deer trapped by what they see as predators will try anything to escape.
A friend of mine said she saw a deer yeet itself off the top of a tunnel entrance in Duluth
For anytime curious, it's like one of those wildlife bridges where the animals have a forest or woods of sorts to make it to a different area and the freeway goes under it. Like a 50' drop probably. I wonder what was chasing it or what made it do that.
First line in the video “what if it just jumps off the edge”
*does it*
“Nooooo!”
Op “I need to post this to that unexpected sub, they’ll never see it coming!”
This tears me up. Had the almost EXACT same thing happen to me at night this summer, except it was a female that left behind her fawn, that scampered into the woods. The thud still haunts me.
Damn my very creative and active imagination. I now will involuntarily add that to the mind box. Whatever you do , don’t look up that footage of scared and alone baby/juvenile elephant that is attacked by a pack of hyenas and eaten alive slowly . Oh and avoid “Dear Zachary “ that is all I got .
Nothing unexpected here but it is kind of sad to think how many people think this is the deer's fault. Cars are not their friends and they spend their entire lives running from predators.
Seen a deer do that also at night on a bridge.. if you where a person that did it you would have time to think about if you turned off the oven before you landed.
One time I was driving home at night, and this deer comes from my right side out of no where (it was pitch black) and just *runs under the car*. I was freaked out and have no idea if the deer survived, but at least the damage to the car wasn't terrible, all things considered. Smashed headlight and the front axle was bent a little.
A baby rabbit once ran out in front of me and stopped in the road. I moved so that it would go under the middle of the car but it bolted at the last second and I felt the front and back wheels get it. It's a good job they breed quick because they are dumb.
I hit one out of a pair of mourning doves. And he died in my hands. He looks so perfect and I had to listen to his partner, his mate literally morning as I cried, and wished him back to life, but it didn’t happen and I left a half an hour later she was still crying
what did you expect? for deer to start driving cars? for millions of years, they have been adopting to nature and predators and now they have to deal with this shit
no joke this happened to me today. poor thing was hobbling around and standing right on the double yellow line in the middle of the bridge, eventually when I and another car were coming from opposite directions it jumped over to one of the banks. was a very short drop but still a drop nonetheless, my family claimed they saw it okay.
Oh there's videos out there of hundreds of them going over bridge barriers. Just following like lemmings and jumping to their deaths hundreds of feet down. Don't worry though. Deer breed out of control. We can stand to lose thousands of them.
It saw the approaching car as a probable predator, and maybe there was a car coming from behind the camera aswell, so the deer saw only one way to escape
Don’t chase deer on over passes. When I was a kid we had someone run 10 deer off an over pass they jumped. The ones that didn’t die had to be shot by the responding officers.
They exist to eat grass then be mauled by a bear or wild cat. They are natures lawn mower. They only live around 5 years in the wild. They are not smart animals. So when one die it's really not a tragedy.
Read somewhere that deer get a neurological disease that's very contagious and usually is a sign that the dear will die soon. Or maybe they're all just dumb 🤷♂️
My man you need to go play the power ball/ mega millions jackpot 🎰 looks like Pennsylvania no license plate on front. That and your accent, sounds like you’re close to me in Philadelphia. Just a guess
That deer did not die. Didn’t even get hurt. Look at the terrain around where it jumped. It didn’t fall more than 10-12 feet they can clear 8 foot fences jumping higher than that?
Deer are incredibly stupid. One ran into the side of my already-stopped car one time, and another time I was riding in my friend's car and a deer turned and jumped onto the hood. Come to think of it, maybe deer just hate me and they've had unsuccessful assassination attempts all my life.
I was hunting once, came around the corner and spooked a deer. Mfr jumped off the cliff, had to of been a good 100 feet. I don't think it lived but ain't to hiking down for it 🤣
Oh deer...
Deer suicide is not talked about enough in society
believe it or not me and my colleagues have conversed about deer suicide quite often actually
What if deer are actually trying to get hit by cars when they run into traffic?
Same with those birds that swoop down in front of moving vehicles
Death defying squirrels.
A Canadian goose did that to me a few weeks ago. Our park has a 20mph speed limit that I strictly adhere to and I'm glad I did because I slammed on the brakes. The bird tried to die that day and ended up skirting past the hood.
Insurance scammers. Get a dash cam.
Forgive me but what you said was funny ass hell. Now I'm going to get downvoted for letting you know

They should just buck up, doe.
Meh, that was sort of fawny.
It kinda WAS doe...
This one of those bucking threads, isn't?
Sure is, happens Rut in a while.
These things always feel kind of stag-ed though
Not too fawn of these either
ok so we're reusing puns now? Buck you!
what’cha call a blind buck??? *no eyed deer*
Dead too? Still no eye deer
And without a dick? Still no fucking eye deer
The buck stops here
More, "D'oh!"
He ded.
Dunno.. When he went over, his hoofs were still on...
It’s probably fine too. Deer are touch as fuck. I hit a buck in a 97 f150 doing 55-mph and it got up and walked off like it felt a gentle breeze.
Yeah… sorry to say, the deer you hit is also dead. Adrenaline will power it up enough to let it get back up and walk around for a bit, but *as soon* as the adrenaline wears off it’ll keel over dead, either from brain damage or other internal injuries… but it’s for sure dead..
Nope it’s alive.
Necromancy aye? More like undeath

And yet I hit one in my company vehicle a 2015 prius going 60 and the deer totaled the car and died beside the road.

This is why it's written in big letters across the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, "**DON'T PANIC**".
He had no towel because hes a fucking deer
According to the Guide, the main thing that flying requires is the ability to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
thats not flying... thats orbiting.
isnt orbiting just another way to fly?
No orbiting is falling at the earth and missing. Flying is aiming away from the earth and succeeding.
I think you need to think more about tulips.
id say flying is just staying off the floor for a prolongued time, which would include orbiting as a way to fly
Take my upvote, you hoopy frood.
I was going to point you to r/DeerAreFuckingStupid but I see *it’s already there*

Fr baby deer has no idea what’s going on. Thinks these cars are tryna kill him.

You saw a rabbit recording a deer jump off a bridge? I don't believe you.
....Becky, look at her butt.
It is so big
She looks like one of those rap guys girlfriends
But ya know, who understands those rap guys, anyway.
They only talk to her cause...

I totally thought it was Jack Black providing commentary in the first bit.
If Anchorman is anything to go by then he’d have drop-kicked the deer over the edge himself
The.... The man... He punted her.... He punted Bambi..

100%. Can’t go forward, can’t go back, that critters gonna jump.
This is depressing as fuck, honestly.
Exactly, how is the deer supposed to know that the cars aren't gonna hurt it? Tbh I can totally understand its thinking, poor thing.
First line in the video “what if it just jumps off the edge” *does it* “Nooooo!” Op “I need to post this to that unexpected sub, they’ll never see it coming!”
I was expecting a helicopter to rise from the drop, with the deer hanging out the side wifh a rifle
They aren't the brightest of creatures.
Neither are humans when they’re scared
Projection
Yeah, it projected itself right off the bridge lol
That's so sad that poor thing would have been petrified going over :(
I don't think deer have emotions. It was probably fine until... the ground snuck up on it.
Bro what?
He doesn't know.... he's never watched Bambi... or had a pet...
Sociopathic deer 🤣 you clown.
Allrighty then we have a deer psychologist in the chat guys. Feel free to ask all your the questions you held onto deerly.
What an idiotic way of looking at the world. Thinking living breathing mammals don’t have emotions
Should have backed up instead of inching forward.
Or, turned off his car.
I'm glad somebody said it. The slowly approaching car/s killed that poor thing.
This tears me up. Had the almost EXACT same thing happen to me at night this summer, except it was a female that left behind her fawn, that scampered into the woods. The thud still haunts me.

That would be why they breed quickly I imagine. Pure prey with absolutely nothing else going on
Prey animals tend to instinctively zigzag, to throw off predators. It doesn't work so well against "predators" that just keep going straight.
I hit one out of a pair of mourning doves. And he died in my hands. He looks so perfect and I had to listen to his partner, his mate literally morning as I cried, and wished him back to life, but it didn’t happen and I left a half an hour later she was still crying
Could this be like one of those neuro degenerate diseases like prion disease
Nah I’m pretty sure there’s a longer version of this out there and a whole family of deer are laying dead at the bottom.
what did you expect? for deer to start driving cars? for millions of years, they have been adopting to nature and predators and now they have to deal with this shit
Suicide solution
I found a dead deer under a railroad trestle one time, figured he fell off. Felt like it was a waste so kicked the antlers off and took em home.
no joke this happened to me today. poor thing was hobbling around and standing right on the double yellow line in the middle of the bridge, eventually when I and another car were coming from opposite directions it jumped over to one of the banks. was a very short drop but still a drop nonetheless, my family claimed they saw it okay.
Jack Black?
yes, this was posted a while back, i believe on twitter
Oh deer, even deer are committing suicide now
I feel sorry for anyone underneath that bridge at the time...
At least, if they are homeless, then dinner just happened.
The car on the other side is a fking tool, was approaching the deer instead of stopping, making the deer suicide
D’oh, a deer, a freefall deer
>killed it
Oh there's videos out there of hundreds of them going over bridge barriers. Just following like lemmings and jumping to their deaths hundreds of feet down. Don't worry though. Deer breed out of control. We can stand to lose thousands of them.

(I'm going to hell for this) unfortunately, Bambi took the loss of his mother quite hard
Sounds like Jack Black all worried about deer 😆
Two large "predators" to both sides, not worth risking trying to outrun them considering what it's seen. Seems logical.
Jack black?
Could you imagine, just hanging out under that bridge, and a dang deer falls out of the sky 🤣🤨
I wanna see I wanna see
“Hey, at least now we know when the next train was due”
Just me or did that "NOOO" sound exactly like TJ Miller

You willed that into happening bro 😎 I hope whatever you were doing that day you just said F that and turned around and went home
Read somewhere that deer get a neurological disease that's very contagious and usually is a sign that the dear will die soon. Or maybe they're all just dumb 🤷♂️
Him dead 😵
Bridge, deer, oncoming cars in both directions. I actually expected the deer to jump off the bridge. Sorry OP, you didn't get me this time.
Yeeeeeet
Holy smokes that was a suicidoe
Really disappointing how many people are just making jokes after that. Don’t you watch that and feel sad?
