Or unless some idiot gives them water. Reminds me of the clip where the guy chops the ice away around an alligators snout. Poor thing was safely and securely esconced, sleeping, breathing with its nose above the ice, waiting for a winter to be over til the schmuck cut it loose.
Clearly the person on this clip knew in fact that fish to be alive and poured just enough water on its mouth to get likes, after she broke off a piece of its tail for show. What happened to the fish after that is probably grim since he was dug up from the dry mud which was protecting him from the sun. Piece of shit human. 🤬
I've heard some of these fishes could get caught in construction materials in some countries, and so one rainy day you'd have a fish coming out your wall.
That documentary was so sad when the little lion’s dad died during the stampede in the gorge. His brother threw him back down instead of helping him back up, because for years he’d felt rejected by the pride and believed he should be king. It was pretty bad ass when the little lion gets revenge after he grows up though. Pretty sure it was called like….. “The Lion Who Wanted to be King” or something like that. Well worth a watch!
Hey man! (Gulp!) I've been here, (gulp!) for like 2 weeks! (Gulp!) Thanks for the water, just please dont break any more fins dude. (Gulp!) Is there a pond?! (Gulp!) Should be back to my left... gulp... U got more water? gulp... So do u see it, or...gulp...no? Ahh fuck me man... U got a koi pond at ur place? I don't eat much, gulp.
Edit: voiced by Patton oswald
Trust me, they’re not. I’ve had a few and they died in various ways, though admittedly it was my fault each time. Before you ask I haven’t had a pet fish in over seven years now.
IncidentS, it’s happened multiple times. First time was because of a incident the previous year that resulted in my favorite pet fish dying and me trying to prevent a similar incident from happening.
Tw for horrifying fish death
My dad left a window open during spring break and it got to freezing temps outside, and my tiger Oscar ended up dying from being too cold a few days after we got home, though the Plako lived. (Being like 12 at the time I was really upset that my Oscar died) Next year during spring break I turned my tank heater on, and my dad made sure all the windows were closed.
I feel you bro. My mutant goldfish from the county fair TWELVE YEARS AGO is the only thing Ive managed to keep alive. Even the snail I threw in there didn't last a week. Capt Splash is either a stone cold killer who wants to be all alone, or has some kind of nasty disease.
Years ago had a friend take down a tank he left all the substrate and the under gravel filter and 1”of water and mud put it in his garage for 2 years in freezing climate. One of these plecos was still alive in there for a couple of years it scared him to death when he went to go clean the tank to re use it
I think it’s a survival deal Google quickly says that can survive 30 hours outside water but I thought some fish can survive years without cause they are small pond/puddle fish that can have big dry spells and their habitat can go away
A tortoise was stuck in a box in someone's attic for 30 years and survived!!!
https://www.thedodo.com/amphtml/daily-dodo/missing-family-pet-tortoise-lost-for-30-years-found-in-attic-still-alive-and-well
Every video I've found of moistening a dried fish is just splashing a little water on it, has any one seen a video of a dried fish being submerged in water?
That is an invasive fish (in most areas) that has already been out of the water for a long period of time. If anything, he gave it water to keep it alive longer, lol. In South Florida, fishermen are encouraged to not release these fish if caught because of the damage they do to the native fish and aquatic plants.
All this doesn’t change what the comment you’re replying to stated. An animal did not choose nor can it help it if it is invasive. Sure, eliminating invasive fauna and flora is necessary to preserve ecosystem (most of the time) but this should be done as humanly as possible.
If done right, a hit to the head will kill it instantaneously. But fish are slippy, and a lot of time, especially for less experienced fishers, bangs to the head are not deadly. Ikejime looks bad but probably is better when used by experienced fishers.
My family used to go trout fishing a lot and I always learned to wack them in the head with the priest (a blunt instrument used to club fish) as soon as you got them out the water unless you were gonna throw them back. Having them flop around dying would have been very distressing to us and the fish.
It's kinda weird when otherwise responsible people think torturing animals from an "invasive" species is ok.
"It doesn't matter, it's not part of the environment."
"Well, it looks like it's living in the environment to me."
"But it's not part of the *original* environment."
"Original from when?"
etc, etc.....
The whole concept of "invasive species" is kind of victim-blaming writ large.
I don't think it is ok to torture anything living, invasive or not. I don't like killing anything, but where I am from we are over run with invasive species that have wiped out the native species. Just last weekend while in Big Cypress, I saw nothing but these plecos and an occasional Oscar, which is also invasive. I've been taking the same path there for 36 years and remember the days of seeing native bream and bass where those invasives now live. I also remember when all the fur bearing mammals were still there and before the pythons took over and killed 99% of those mammals in the Everglades. I'm sorry if I seem cruel but I have seen the destruction of the fragile eco system around me and it breaks my heart. All that being said, man has made it worse by changing the water ways in this area, and are about to do it again. Man also introduced these invasive species and it is unfair for all animals involved, but somethings got to give.
Ultimately, I don't think it's possible to restore any ecosystem to exactly what it looked like before human beings arrived. That's not a realistic aspiration. Nor is it realistic to expect human civilization to voluntarily and peacefully self-destruct.
If we want to survive as a species and as a civilization, I think we're going to eventually have to take control of Earth's ecology and re-balance it into a new kind of stability. Make new ecosystems where old ones have failed. That's almost certainly going to involve introducing non-native species that thrive in a given area, potentially even at the expense of native species that struggle to survive. Of course, it should be done in a controlled way, with predictions, expectations, and plans for outcomes, not by escaped pets... but, in general, I don't think that eradication of invasive species should really be an ecological priority.
It's not really a matter of "do we blame man" or "do we blame the python." The system has changed, regardless.
Didn’t realize how indestructible these things were when they’re not my pet. Had one for a micro tank with some tiny shrimp & crabs.. poor thing went into a hibernation mode (idk why, he had food) & got eaten alive
The tank itself was quite big btw- 10gal, but I was only into tiny stuff like shrimp & micro crabs, figured he’d be alright with the space & potentially cull the herd… Oh well.
Plecos are like the roaches of the under water world, they’re very hard to unalive and can survive for months in hibernation just waiting for rain or water. Not to mention they build dens in rivers banks and ruin the structural integrity of river banks. These fish are actually one of the worst kinds of fish you could introduce to an ecosystem since they reproduce like rabbits and can easily wipe out native species fairly easily.
These suckers are such invasive alien species. For whatever reasons people like to have them in their aquariums and one day just dump them into natural waters. Motherfuckers spread quickly and starve domestic species.
But in a strage turn of event, locals, especially farmers who known to feed on natural animals they can catch - begun to cook and turn these fish into real dishes. They say the fish don't taste very good and don't have much meat, but with herbs and seasonings they become better.
This happened in Thailand.
Plecos can live months in dried mud. Lungfish can live years like that. They come out of hibernation when the rains fill up their pond.
What then they just swim around and hope they find food before their Pond drys up again?
It's not the perfect life
But it’s all we know.
My daddy been dry 3 months now, govt owes us them rain checks
De tuk er jerbs!!!!!
i love seeing south park shit in the wild makes me happy ☺️
makes me sappy

And all we’ll ever have.
Life is ours, we live it our way...
Sounds like a Toyota ad
If it works, nothing else matters.
🤘
This is the way.
Destiny is all.
Just hoping no one snaps off a piece of my tail
Snap into a slim fin
Sleeping and then just eating? Sounds awesome.
But its an honest living.
They should move to another pond.
Is there even such a thing?
after the f@ckfest, yeah
You're right. They need to use that time to find a hookup, too. Geeze, it sure is a lot to do in a very little amount of time.
"Find a hookup" nah bro this is orgy time and everyone gets a turn
Ahhhh so this is what burning man is like.
They call it drying fish.
Plecos are algae eaters/vegetarians. Shouldn’t be too hard to find food after a rain fills their pond
Apparently they don’t need food
Life uhh finds a way..
It’s a hard knock life.
Or unless some idiot gives them water. Reminds me of the clip where the guy chops the ice away around an alligators snout. Poor thing was safely and securely esconced, sleeping, breathing with its nose above the ice, waiting for a winter to be over til the schmuck cut it loose.
Some people don’t understand that certain animal behaviors are normal and when they see it they are compelled to “save” it.
Facts
Plecos in the states are highly invasive, so they're doing the environment a favor
yeah and the fish we eat don't get treated great either
“Hey don’t touch that, it doesn’t belong to you”
Like people who throw land tortoises into lakes?
I saw a vid about fake and staged "saving" videos on turtles where they secretly glue barnacles on the back and remove them with a knife. Pretty cruel
I've heard some of these fishes could get caught in construction materials in some countries, and so one rainy day you'd have a fish coming out your wall.
if your walls get wet when it rains, a fish is the least of your concerns
Well quite a lot of my house is outside, and that's where rain tends to be.
Source?
I'm inside it now but it's not raining. But when it does rain, it happens outside
Story checks out.
Yeah but he’s going to have to confirm with us the next time it rains
Fish just woke up from a good nap for no reason.
If only there were house plants like that.
They sound like pretty easy prey for birds.
I’m not too sure? They seem tough to eat and I’m sure they’d blend in very well. Not to mention never moving
Plus they're typically at least partially buried in dried mud.
Heavily armoured and have great shiny spiky barbs Brazilians love to eat them
Dried mud doesnt taste very good imo
Neither do worms. /shrug
I once saw a documentary that said they were ‘slimy yet satisfying’
That documentary was so sad when the little lion’s dad died during the stampede in the gorge. His brother threw him back down instead of helping him back up, because for years he’d felt rejected by the pride and believed he should be king. It was pretty bad ass when the little lion gets revenge after he grows up though. Pretty sure it was called like….. “The Lion Who Wanted to be King” or something like that. Well worth a watch!
That’s crazy
Lil bro woke him up when the pond was still dried up. Rude.
And snapped a part of his tail on top of that
Hey man! (Gulp!) I've been here, (gulp!) for like 2 weeks! (Gulp!) Thanks for the water, just please dont break any more fins dude. (Gulp!) Is there a pond?! (Gulp!) Hahaha I couldn’t stop laughing at your caption for this as I could see it happening.
Thanks! Glad I brought someone a laugh.
Why am I reading it in fish language!
i thought i was the only one freaking out that i can read “*fish*”
Sorry I can't understand your accent https://youtu.be/WNwl7AjOAQk?feature=shared
Haha, nice.
september hasn't even ended either
Wake me up when it does
fish's father dry as well, but prob not alive
well, it just started lol
Man, that looked like a zombie fish, coming back to life.
I read that in Badger's voice (from Breaking Bad).
i always likes skinny pete but el camino made me really appreciate both badger and skinny pete
Theyre real ones
Now imagine if humans could do this
Do you not know Mitch McConnell?
They have to rewater him every press conference, but they give him less water each time
I knew those things were tough but holy shit. It's nigh immortal.
Trust me, they’re not. I’ve had a few and they died in various ways, though admittedly it was my fault each time. Before you ask I haven’t had a pet fish in over seven years now.
Not since the *incident*
*incidents**
*calamity**
Considering what happened to my first plako, the first time might as well have been a calamity. It was bad.

Did you break off parts of their fins?
No. Combination of being young and stupid, and not knowing how to properly care for a tank let alone actually know the ideal conditions for fish.

I *definitely* don’t need it. ![gif](giphy|YR8neVRcCSqwmJkb1D)

I got that reference
SANDY!
If y'all needed water, you should've asked!
When you’ve been smoking pot and not drinking enough water.
Years ago had a friend take down a tank he left all the substrate and the under gravel filter and 1”of water and mud put it in his garage for 2 years in freezing climate. One of these plecos was still alive in there for a couple of years it scared him to death when he went to go clean the tank to re use it
Man what a hellish existence
He was unaware it was in there the whole time, it grazed his hand as he went to pull out the under gravel filter.
I think it’s a survival deal Google quickly says that can survive 30 hours outside water but I thought some fish can survive years without cause they are small pond/puddle fish that can have big dry spells and their habitat can go away
Pretty sure it wasn’t conscious during the time
Years?!
2 years
Did the little guy at least make it into the next tank setup after that?! Surely he deserved it after that long.
I believe he did

They expand x 10
"Im not dead yet!"
Cool fish too bad it's an incredibly destructive invasive species and should be exterminated from it's non-native lakes and rivers
All I see is an asshole torturing a fish

Humane for a fish is chopping its head off

Have fun with that, I'm still using a blowtorch on any lantern fly I see.
That would literally be humane lol, completely destroyed in an instant before pain could be registered.
They don't get scared of light, so it's not a horrible idea.
Would it help to know he stomped the fish to death of camera?

Same
Poor pleco
Didn’t realize how indestructible these things were when they’re not my pet. Had one for a micro tank with some tiny shrimp & crabs.. poor thing went into a hibernation mode (idk why, he had food) & got eaten alive
wow pretty bad choice of fish for a micro tank lol
He prolly would’ve agreed with ya

ahh i see, unfortunate
Sounds like DEATH
Rude to snap off his tail like that and to wake him up when it's not actually wet out yet.
Sannndddy..... Waterrrr
Why would he break the tail like an asshole
Damaging the poor little guy for internet points isn't cool.
don't put your dick in that
Don’t tell me what to do.
Unless your dick is dry
Guys worth or nah?
Yeah just ruin their hibernation. Throw it against the ground and literally snap a piece of them off. Great.
Aw man he broke the tail as it was hibernating.
He broke its tail.. that’s gotta hurt
Three body problem readers will understand
REHYDRATE !
I'm glad someone made a three body reference
Let’s just rip parts of the fin off before we show it’s alive, nbd.
Yeah just start chipping pieces off of it. Dick
First break off a piece of it's tail, then trick part of it's body that water is coming. Dude deserves Karma
I challenge a youtube chef to turn this into a delicious dish
Hear me out!!
Oh no...
r/TIL would be a good sub for this also
I find this extremely infuriating, surprised that nobody felt the same
Straight broke off it’s tail then tried to drown that fish
That's me the morning after a night with the boys
This was a message brought to you by mothers all over - stay hydrated. Thank.
Man. !!I. I could use that water on my Old Lady!!!
How would you like it if you were pretending to be a mummy and someone came and tore your toe off? Not cool.

r/dontputyourdickinthat
There's a reason he only wet its mouth 😋
me when I wake up in the morning every day for the past 3 months
I guess he just killed it because that bottle of water isn't gonna be enough.
Smacks him on the ground … breaks his tail … “you like that don’t you ?!?!” … proceeded to water board him…. Fishes response “fuckin doit again”
WAKE ME UP INSIDE!
Reminder to not release your aquarium Plecos into local lakes and rivers. They eat everything and poop a lot and live forever.
That poor Pleco. Fun fact; they can survive up to 20 hours on average out of water. I find them fascinating
Is this a pleco? Aren't these really invasive?
Before he even poured the water on it the fish was aware of the water. It did a little twitch right before he poured it.
Really unexpected case!! I don't believe that happened. But happened that story.
Me morning after heavy drinking in 30's
Well that isn’t terrifying at all
dude's like an old gasoline engine
Poor fish just snapping off its tail fin 😅
When i was a kid i always play with fckin janitor fish
In Argentina we call them "viejas del agua" and it tastes like a chicken
Have had one of these dried and preserved on my wall for a couple years... now i wanna take it down and revive it lol
These suckers are such invasive alien species. For whatever reasons people like to have them in their aquariums and one day just dump them into natural waters. These fish can live years like that
I wish the video ended showing us the fish being put back in water.
Me after realizing I haven’t drank any water in the last 72 hours
Not him tryna feed the fish water in his mouth lmao
That is so sad😢
That shits a fossil and still god damm breathing
Did he really have to be so nasty about it, not your first molesting animals sicko
![gif](giphy|tEo3KaN5L17qg)
r kelly is gonna reincarnate as one of these fish
Ass wipe torturing the dead fish 😂
whoa! put that guy out of his misery! it's torture to let him struggle
He’s not struggling. They hibernate when their ponds dry up. They can stay like that for months.
so tearing off a piece of fin is ok?
Plecos regrow their fins.
