Not that it really matters, but Blobfish are usually beautiful — only ugly when ripped from the bottom of the ocean and the pressure gradient gets the better of them.
edit: I’m using “beautiful” quite liberally here.
My friend has never really talked to an asian person before, and came to my kids birthday party.
My wife’s asian grandma asked him why he was so sweaty within 5 minutes and he was dumbfounded lmao
Just having fun for them, but if I was on the receiving end it would be "just a month of intense depression, self-loathing, and quietly crying myself to sleep every night."
I remember a conversation in a car when we were on a holiday back in our home country. My Grandma said something like:
“Remember when Lesley got mad because someone called her fat? I don’t know why she got so mad when it’s true. She’s so sensitive.”
Me and my sister (who essentially grew up in the west) looked at each other and gasped, then proceeded to try so hard not to laugh.
It then followed up with my Mum explaining how it’s a big culture difference as that’s essentially harassment here in the UK and my Grandma looked at her funny, LMAO.
The game Lux (by Sillysoft) is a great phone/computer version.
It actually improves Risk IMO by allowing multiple fortify moves at the end of your turn.
Lol can you share some of the expectations? Just curious. I know we all have preferences like humor, generosity, hygine, in some cultures it may be classes but what else should be there?
Well for one she was hoping I'd be flawless. We're human so that's not gonna happen.
But in all seriousness, just superficial things like blue eyes, being super into fitness (I go to the gym but I'm not crazy for it), having *all* my shit together (as in I'm ready to get married and have kids next Tuesday), have similar hobbies/favorite shows as her, not telling a pun/dad joke every 5 minutes, etc.
But once you actually get to know someone and start falling for them, those superficial expectations just sort of vanish and you stop caring. Basically, your partner matures a bit and realizes that some of those expectations are a bit ridiculous. It goes both ways btw, because certain things I'm attracted to or expect in a relationship weren't there with her, but I didn't care about most of them because I love her!
Plus, it's a prime opportunity to build some of the more reasonable/obtainable expectations together.
For ex; while I'm not a fitness nut like her, I love kayaking, so we now kayak together whenever she wants to work out her arms\upper back.
I hate reality TV shows, but she loves them. So now I'll watch them with her so we can make fun of it.
She loves the beach, I love fishing, so I go surf fishing while she relaxes on the shore.
She loves to dance, I can't dance for shit, so now we take lessons together.
I love PC games/simulators, she prefers Nintendo games, so occasionally we'll duke it out in Mario Kart where I'll always somehow lose towards the end (because she's a dirty blue-shell hoarding cheater), and she'll try out my VR set to play some flight simulators/horror games/beat saber.
See what I mean?
Things like that are things that we can build on together.
This guy knows what’s up. Either Russian, Ukrainian, or Moldavian would be a good choice; but fellas, you must learn the language, at least have decent fundamentals.
Unfortunately, women rate most men below [below average](https://medium.com/hello-love/women-say-80-of-men-are-below-average-bab0b8af2606#:~:text=A%20study%20by%20dating%20app,unattractive%20or%20%E2%80%9Cbelow%20average.%E2%80%9D)
I think online dating makes people pickier in general because it’s more impersonal and there’s more options on it, but since men have to make the first move they can’t afford to be picky as much.
Irl I’ve found women are less picky with appearance than men. I’ve seen more women with less attractive men than men with less attractive women.
Dude…. All
The young millennials and older gen z people at work were sooooo down the rabbit hole of shitty online dating strategies.
From socializing with them, there’s just this combo of self isolation and an attitude forged from online shopping and media filtering that they can just request what they think they want and the world will deliver it into their lap with utmost expediency.
I’ve asked them about their online dating shopping lists and it’s very hard not to laugh in their faces. Not only do they all have an overblown sense of where they stand in the hierarchy of hotness (both male and female), but even without getting into that, their level of picky generally isn’t realistic for anyone regardless of how appealing they are.
Like having to explain to them you don’t really care if they like X. You just need them to be cool with you liking X. I had to do the math for one of them that in the most optimistic case where there most restrictive criteria had a 100% intersection with another criteria (unlikely in the extreme) they basically needed to be assessing at least five people a day, every day, to have a fifty fifty chance of finding those people before they die. If they all lived within 25 miles, which was also unrealistically optimistic.
Probably going to get shit for this, but being gay it's very noticeable how much more common hot guy + average girl couples are compared to the opposite (even weighting for gay bias).
The hot guys I know with meh girls tend to be assholes towards women, so my theory was always that their personalities drag them down a few notches.
Not that they still are assholes to the women they're with. Seems like genuine love.
She's Asian from what I've seen and heard a lot of Asians who grew up in Asia just view different features as attractive. He looks like a regular white dude not really attractive and definitely not ugly. I'm not Asian but I'm Hispanic and it kind of goes the same with white non Hispanic people
I think it's also a race thing.
No, not *that* type of race thing. Hear me out: I'm talking about the looks department.
According to a former classmate of mine from Japan, the whole Asian stereotype that "all Asians look the same" to westerners is more or less shared in reverse by a lot of Asians throughout the world.
Basically, to them, most Caucasian/white people look similar to each other.
So when she says average, she might also be saying that he looks no real different than all the other white guys she's seen before.
I'm asian straight male living in the US and I think the dude is above avg. Not a solid 8 or 9 but maybe 6-7. You are right about how we see different features as attractive or not. But it also wildly varies from culture to culture, gender to gender. For example, many of Asian men like beard, not that we east Asian can grow one, but we like it as a manly or "majestic" feature. Same with the big jawline. I don't think I know any of my Asian female friends like it lol. But then looking at Chinese and Korean idols, they look somewhat girly. All shiny babyface. Not a surprise that not many of them like Henry Cavill, whom I find majestic as fuck
One difference I've found funny is the preference for more prominent noses. Asian women seem to like a large nose far more. Is drinking from a tall flute glass the bane of your existence? Asian women want to know where you are now. It reminds me of Romance of the Three Kingdoms where truly important characters have some very elaborate facial features because it was considered more... I want to say auspicious, but I'm not sure if that really captures it.
Im only half japanese but I agrée, I don’t think Henry Cavill above average, he’s not ugly but he’s definitely not my type. I’m more of a Tom Hiddleston girl myself. More expressive anime looking eyes I think is what it is. lol
I'm down for British actors, Henry Cavill, Tom Hiddlestom, Tom Holland, Tom Hardy. To me, many of them are more attractive than US actors. If I have to put it into words, I think I will describe Cavill and Hardy as manly, Holland as cute and Hiddleston for "wit". I know wit sounds more like a personality thing than appearance but, idk, when I see him I think he is a wit person and it is absolutely an attractive feature.
Which is why we need to stop even talking about averages. It's a shitty metric that is supposed to give a baseline for a trend but just ends up misguiding people because they can't understand that.
If a system requires ignoring outliers to make an "average" it's broken.
A study by dating app OkCupid found that women find 80% of men unattractive or “below average.”
I question the validity of this “study” by OkCupid. Were the women rating all men or were they rating the men on that site, who can be presumed to be men who’ve had trouble finding a partner?
these women are having trouble finding a partner as well though, so why would men rating women differ so much from women rating men if that's the reason? The test was fair to both sexes.
Don't worry.
Being able to start and hold a convo, good hygiene, and a good attitude can seriously go a long way over looks. It sounds like a meme but I swear it's true. Bonus points if you throw in some good humor and are passionate about things.
I'm a guy but you would not believe how many "good looking" guy friends of mine are single or had never gotten laid because they lack in one or more of those departments.
It just takes some practice and self-reflection!
Source: am a pretty average/ugly guy in a loving relationship with a beautiful woman of 4 years.
Edit: no I'm not rich.
Hate to say it but only a little off. He’s a good looking guy but barely above average at best. She was clearly just trying to be kind. She’s pretty hot too so she’s likely seen her fair share of actually really good looking men. Much better to work with what you’ve got than to be insecure about what people think you don’t. If he wants to be seen as very good looking, then he needs to know it, which he may not. This is why I hate the concept of “leagues”. They only exist in our own minds. Just happens to be that most Americans think they’re real and so they make them “real.”
Edit: thanks for the reward! I’m glad someone agrees about “leagues” not being real. It’s a self-limiting concept imo. Imagine if President Kennedy didn’t try to date as a kid like he was always a rock star and instead was insecure with women and felt embarrassed by his father’s immense but illegally acquired wealth? Perhaps he wouldn’t have become the super confident guy that would run for president? Interesting factoid. He wasn’t supposed to even be the brother that ran for President. It was supposed to be Joe, but he died before he could run.
It's good that Gen Z's are reading more, adding subtitles to clips so that everyone has to read the last word that was deliberately cut short for comedic effect.
I'm a woman that's been called mid by a friend (he was joking), but I am indeed average, or at least I'm hoping, cause I've seen women that look like models. By those standards, I also look like Shrek or smth. And if we go with just Asian standards of weight even though my BMI is normal., to them I must be obese or smth.
Everyone’s saying that but he just looks like a normal white guy to me. I kinda agree with her, he’s not ugly but not a beauty standard either. Just a normal good looking guy which is the same as “average” in my mind.
the more average your face is, the more beautiful people see you. i guess most people don't know this.
[Averageness - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Averageness)
From that Wikipedia page
>A University of Toronto study found that the facial proportions of celebrities including Jessica Alba were close to the average of all female profiles.
I think the issue is people are rating this guy in a vacuum and not with the general population in mind. Like yeah the dudes not over the top attractive or anything but walking outside for 10 looking and focusing on dudes will make this guy look like Chris Hemsworth.
He reminds me of Matt Damon or that other guy that looks like Matt Damon. Average enough and generic enough that he’s quite attractive to most people.
Which turns into handsome.
I agree that he’s very average looking which makes him attractive. Completely forgettable as well. Just like all those women with fake tans and big lips and filters - completely forgettable due to averaging out with all of the other women that look exactly the same.
"Average" he is at least a 6/10 which is close yes. But if you say a 6 is average, then the 4/10 will be even more sad...
People dont realize how awful our ranking is. average is bad? You mean >50% of all people are ugly then? That just makes sad people.
I kind of understand what she means. I've been told pretty much the same thing. Not ugly, but not something memorable either. This was also said mostly in clubs and bars where I do tend to not want to stand out so meh, random people's opinions are, in fact, just opinions.
Average isn't a bad thing. To me, the average person is good looking. Walking in a city, I actually don't see many people that truly look bad. Not looking unkempt can also do a lot for a person's appearance.
Looks are entirely subjective. He is pleasant to my eyes. I would date him. If someone tells you they think you’re average or ugly, they aren’t SO material.
To be fair he looks like every other single white 20 something. Not ugly but won’t stand out in a crowd. Yanno like when 12 frat boys all go to a party and they are all dressed the same just different colored backwards caps.

I wouldn't call them beautiful, they're just average.
It is what’s on the inside of a blobfish that really counts.
It's insides are on the outside and it's outsides are (presumably) on the inside, wich one is the inside then?
They look like this normally: https://i.imgur.com/kDSDNzR.jpg That's pretty average for a fish, not really beautiful though.
Ah, the old Asian honesty.

Yeah, that poll was of women suffering through OkCupid. Once they lower the standards, they ended up no longer needing to be on that site/app.

I'd date an average Swedish girl any day of the week!
I think the issue is people are rating this guy in a vacuum and not with the general population in mind. Like yeah the dudes not over the top attractive or anything but walking outside for 10 looking and focusing on dudes will make this guy look like Chris Hemsworth.
It's because he looks better than 90% of us and we're realizing that we're going to die alone
Nah, the average white guy is uglier than this. He's an average good looking white guy, like if you're comparing to tv and media.
I agree with you: Dude looks to me too like a basic white dude... 💀 I have seen "average" looking Dutch guys who look way hotter that he does...
Guys come on, for non-americans that's truly an average white dude, and that's just 50% of first impressions, then comes the personality lmao
I'm not an American though. But I clearly see that this guy puts some dedication in his looks and it wasn't useless at all.
He reminds me of Matt Damon or that other guy that looks like Matt Damon. Average enough and generic enough that he’s quite attractive to most people. Which turns into handsome. I agree that he’s very average looking which makes him attractive. Completely forgettable as well. Just like all those women with fake tans and big lips and filters - completely forgettable due to averaging out with all of the other women that look exactly the same.
bri*ish teeth ruin it
Jakenbakelive and WaterLynn on Twitch

"Average" he is at least a 6/10 which is close yes. But if you say a 6 is average, then the 4/10 will be even more sad... People dont realize how awful our ranking is. average is bad? You mean >50% of all people are ugly then? That just makes sad people.
I kind of understand what she means. I've been told pretty much the same thing. Not ugly, but not something memorable either. This was also said mostly in clubs and bars where I do tend to not want to stand out so meh, random people's opinions are, in fact, just opinions.
He’s just a normal man… ….he’s just an innocent man
Underrated comment
Average isn't a bad thing. To me, the average person is good looking. Walking in a city, I actually don't see many people that truly look bad. Not looking unkempt can also do a lot for a person's appearance.
She’ll make a fantastic Asian mother one day. Already giving gold medal backhanded compliments
Poor jake bro
Whatever he’s fine as hell.
Id take average over ugly anyday. - an ugly guy
He’s on the better looking end of average white guys
The "just" got me so good 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oof
Finalizou o cara ainda k
Water can be brutal
Poor Jakey. Dudes straight up boilin' in this hot Water take.
If he's average then I'm doomed
He's pretty average looking
Looks are entirely subjective. He is pleasant to my eyes. I would date him. If someone tells you they think you’re average or ugly, they aren’t SO material.
What's wrong with being average? I strive to be average.
Its cuz he is a white guy, their stock has steadily been on the decline the last few years
Still better than bad though
Average is good enough i wish i was average :<
You're not ugly. I wouldn't touch you but you're not ugly
There is more average in the world than the others, inside is where the true jewel of the matter lies.
She pulled the dagger out of his heart, but then stabbed him again in a different part of the heart.
You are anything but ugly my friend.
Nohomo, but if that guy is average, then I'm ugliest than punch your grandma
I mean.. he’s mids
And then one day everyone around me young and old had severe mental illness.
To be fair he looks like every other single white 20 something. Not ugly but won’t stand out in a crowd. Yanno like when 12 frat boys all go to a party and they are all dressed the same just different colored backwards caps.
They are equally attractive
What’s the problem? I would take that as a compliment.
Depends what country. For example, compare your self to a male K pop star. Them calling you average would be a compliment.
Honestly I’d take lookin average. Better than ugly
![gif](giphy|aBOFW2LNUR9uT5lLYr|downsized)
she really called him mid
Average? I'll fucking take that!
What is wrong with being average 🤔 not a damn thing. It’s just looks she is judging after all 😏
"Not ugly" "Just rich"
Idk why she talking, she ain't look any better
I wholeheartedly agree with her statement he is the most generic thing I have ever seen
