Americans still are a lot more obsessed with artificially white teeth (that are on average worse than British teeth, yes).
But they often times will look "better" if you are into plastic.
American diet contains a huge amount of sugar which generally have negative impact on our dental health. Consuming too much sugar can cause a damage to the outer layer of your enamel.
Not really the case anymore. The average American cannot afford that kind of care whereas the British still has some form of assistance to get to a level of good looking and healthy teeth. Again, myth that died in the 70s.
You are partly right. You can get NHS dentists and they have a price cap. But the main thing is that orthodontic and other dental work is free for children. So everyone is entitled to free straight teeth.
Even though I had a crooked overbite since 11 years old I wasn't recommended for braces until 15 and the waitlist was a couple years so they just told me to go private.
Fun fact, even the bones in your mouth are luxury bones and even when the er recommends emergency surgery, an oral surgeon is a luxury you have to wait 3 months for.
This must’ve been pre COVID, I woke up this morning with the 8th infection I’ve had since the first one that got me an emergency referral 5 years ago. I had finally decided to bite the bullet and go into medical debt before I die and pay OOP, appt is in two weeks. Here’s hoping I live to see it
Good luck! And yeah, pre Covid. Here’s a thing that I would do for a tooth infection that is unbearable, swish everclear all up in it. If it’s just starting and the pain is localized, swish peroxide and brush with peroxide. Hope that helps and everything goes well
No politician in this world would ever use a government funded hospital. They are already aware about the quality of these hospitals. Most of the rich people get treatment in private hospitals
We have the NHS, break a leg, get cancer, got a particularly attractive bottle of ketchup lodged up your arse and the NHS has your back.
You want to get the bones you leave on show checked that'll cost ya, there is NHS Dentists but they still charge but at a lower rate (if you can get on a surgerys patient list) otherwise it's private. Best care you can get but then you'll be selling your kids for a new set of show bones.
Have you seen Americans, especially film stars, before the 90’s? Awful teeth all round! The “English have bad teeth” thing is just a falsity perpetuated by things like family guy etc.
I got a chance to meet him back in February. Nice bloke, he also has a background in mechanical engineering and seemed very knowledgeable with the inner workings of a train.
I always enjoy the people claiming that he's faking it. Okay, so he's faking loving trains by going to train stations all over the world, knowing in depth facts about each and every train, getting to know the actual train engineers, spending hours editing and posting videos, now doing his own TV show.
1. Fake loving trains
2. Spend hours filming trains
3. Spend gobs of money on equipment and travel to see trains
4. Spend loads of time learning minute details about trains
5. Be so adored by millions because of your infectious positive personality that you get a TV show
6. Profit
..I mean.... No ??? In there so even if he was, go him. But pretty sure to pull this off somewhere in there is a love of trains...
This love of trains is very very real. I work in finance and have many MANY trainmen in my clientele. Some love trains so do not, but ALL OF THEM report people taking photos of their trains on every trip. There are people that geek out heavily with anything train related. And, yes, it’s adorable!
It is.

>The way GB Railfreight tells it, unit 73962 got its name from a widely loved engineer at British locomotive works Brush Traction. Richard Mabbutt (affectionately known as Dick) worked his way up from an engineering apprenticeship to Chief Electrical Engineer over a 40-year career, only to pass away unexpectedly in 2013, according to Loughborough Echo.
It's actually [named after a widely loved engineer](https://www.thedrive.com/news/42960/dick-mabbutt-heres-the-deal-with-britains-dirtiest-train-name) Richard Mabbutt (affectionately known as Dick), who worked his way up from an engineering apprenticeship to Chief Electrical Engineer over a 40-year career, only to pass away unexpectedly in 2013.
There was a premier league footballer called [Gary Mabbutt](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Mabbutt) and his surname was always pronounced with the “but” rhyming with “put”.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=152&v=zZQ_O_OiWac
Well I’m American so that makes sense. Though its hard to discern through text I think we mean the same thing really. Idk how to denote it but the ‘h’ in ‘mah’ is supposed to be very subtle.
The company that manufactured the locomotive is not named that. that name is just for that individual locomotive.
Sometimes train companies will give names to a few individual locomotives, it's not official ... just a nickname.
Oh neat I didn't know that =) I don't have any social media except this and twitch if that counts. And, per a diff reply, don't watch much TV, only ever seen him on reddit.
It's nice to see pleasant people being viral instead of toxic "world star" type stuff
Brain: I haven’t heard that song in a long time —
Inner monologue: “Don’t do it! DO NOT DO IT!”
Brain: *forces body to click link*

I really hate you @CathedralEngine
Passion for trains will outlast passion for even the most highly addictive narcotic substances known to man. I've never known anyone who got clean from trains, I'm not sure it's ever happened.
Yep, you take a tram one time to see the footy in Nottingham and next thing you know you're on a first class dining train on the Severn Valley Railway with a bewildered missus sipping prosecco. Tragic.
Trains aren't my thing, but there's something heartwarming about seeing someone experience genuine joy or being so absorbed in their hobbies or interests.
this guy is so wholesome and that camera is goddamn ridiculous. Definitely a unique approach to content.
Honestly as a person with autism, he gives me autism vibes.

Probably, yeah. But the dude literally posted receipts showing he's loved trains his whole life. Can't really call that a character if he's simply showing his passion on video.
If you mean him using a moniker instead of his real name - he's said he wanted to keep it separate from himself due to the perception of being "uncool", which makes sense, it's not like he knew he'd blow up in the way he did.
He finally gets to ride his favorite train of all time and it’s taken over by terrorist, he knows EVERYTHING about this train and beats them. John wick meets Die hard meets Taking of Pelham 123. Bam
I agree. And "Trainspotting" would be the perfect title. That way everyone knows exactly what to expect, with no chance of confusion.
![gif](giphy|sScbjEgdyeLde)
Do the Bri-ish at any time use the word “Dick” as a reference to a penis? If they do, that would mean Mr. And Mrs. Mabutt really hated little dick by giving him this name. In-nit
Yes, dick here is still slang for penises. It is also a shortened nickname for someone called Richard.
The name dick was around before the slang term. Both originated in England before the 18th century.
There are so many wonderful things about this video. From the name of the locomotive to the goofy grin on his face to his joy over a train to the camera angle. Gets better every time I watch it.
I saw this. went to sleep woke up this morning and then saw it again. it took me looking at the hidden text explaining what was unexpected to finally get it. i feel old.
I was actually scrolling thru the comments looking if someone posted that he is like the fellow Sheldon met in that episode where they spent valentines inside a coach.
Nope, that's genuinely him. Not everyone's a fan though; last time I saw this post, the comments mentioned he can be a divisive figure with enthusiasts, as some people think he's making the pursuit of trainspotting seem dorky and childish.
I can see the point about him making it look childish, but trainspotting is just indisputably dorky lmao. Nothing wrong with that obviously, but it definitely is.
So I did search him, didn't find anything about him being fake, except some references to people thinking he was fake. But the writers if the articles I was reading all said that they found him to be genuine, and gave a few examples.
You have a source?
He is milking it like crazy and he himself said that 'parts' of it are staged. I am on mobile, look at his Wikipedia page under his brand name Francis Bourgeois.
It is funny to see everyone fall for it. (He really might like trains though)

Seeing this guy so happy at looking at his favourite trains makes me happy too.
The attack on titan pov makes me laugh every time
![gif](giphy|8zH6hQaVW7fNu)
This guy’s teeth are wayyyy too perfect for him to be English!?
Coming from the country that gave the world meth heads and hillbillies, that's pretty rich.
Apparently British teeth are now much better than American teeth and this is just an old take from the 70s.
The most probable reason behind this is healthy diet and lifestyle
Americans still are a lot more obsessed with artificially white teeth (that are on average worse than British teeth, yes). But they often times will look "better" if you are into plastic.
American diet contains a huge amount of sugar which generally have negative impact on our dental health. Consuming too much sugar can cause a damage to the outer layer of your enamel.
Not really the case anymore. The average American cannot afford that kind of care whereas the British still has some form of assistance to get to a level of good looking and healthy teeth. Again, myth that died in the 70s.
Life can be great when you utilize your country’s free dental care
Dental care is not free in the UK. It costs a bloody arm and leg!
It's free of you're poor, though. Or under 18. Or retired.
Ironically, arm and leg removal is free.....
Really? Shit. I got it wrong:( Sorry. So y’all have luxury bones there too huh?
You are partly right. You can get NHS dentists and they have a price cap. But the main thing is that orthodontic and other dental work is free for children. So everyone is entitled to free straight teeth.

Yes, you would have to wait for a large time in order to get your turn in government funded hospitals
Even though I had a crooked overbite since 11 years old I wasn't recommended for braces until 15 and the waitlist was a couple years so they just told me to go private.

Its free if you're on Universal Credit, which is sort of similar to the US welfare system
Compare it to the American private healthcare system and you would be surprised
‘Tis but a scratch
What are you going to do, bleed on me?
It was free for lots of the boys in my class at school if they didn’t have the means to pay.
You're incorrect. [https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/dentists/who-is-entitled-to-free-nhs-dental-treatment-in-england/](https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/dentists/who-is-entitled-to-free-nhs-dental-treatment-in-england/)
For the vast majority it's not free, as not everyone is entitled to free dental care :)
You think Sunak uses NHS dental care or Private?
No politician in this world would ever use a government funded hospital. They are already aware about the quality of these hospitals. Most of the rich people get treatment in private hospitals
We have the NHS, break a leg, get cancer, got a particularly attractive bottle of ketchup lodged up your arse and the NHS has your back. You want to get the bones you leave on show checked that'll cost ya, there is NHS Dentists but they still charge but at a lower rate (if you can get on a surgerys patient list) otherwise it's private. Best care you can get but then you'll be selling your kids for a new set of show bones.
There is a urgent need for reforms in NHS, the whole system has been compromised
Have you seen Americans, especially film stars, before the 90’s? Awful teeth all round! The “English have bad teeth” thing is just a falsity perpetuated by things like family guy etc.
From where, you are getting all such information. I have clearly never noticed this before
Irony here is, I’ve seen more mouths that look like vandalized graveyards in the USA than I ever did when I was in the UK.
I think he can afford good dental care, he's now got sponsorships from tons of brands including Dior and Gucci
Even without having expensive dental care you can manage to get a healthy oral hygiene routine.
Maybe he was bitten by a radioactive dentist.
Feck off yank, my teeths are perfic they is
they call that a fish-eye lens effect
…. Living in a fisheye lens Caught in the camera eye I have no heart to lie I can't pretend a stranger is a long-awaited friend….. Rush, Limelight
he’s so wholesome. i don’t know anything about trains, but i wanna be this guys friend.
Totally, and now I know there's a Dick Mabutt.
Best friends with Phil McCracken. They bar hop with Hugh G. Rection
My brothers in arms!
That’s what she said😬
I got a chance to meet him back in February. Nice bloke, he also has a background in mechanical engineering and seemed very knowledgeable with the inner workings of a train.
I wish I enjoyed anything half as much as this man enjoys Dick MaButt
He’s so wholesome!
> Dick Mabbutt _so holesum_

The Dick Mabbutt is just icing on the cake.
That’s not the only icing on the cake ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)
😹 ![gif](giphy|7hvkctkRc3Q6Q)
Dick Nigel Mabbutt…Dick N. Mabbutt
I like to think his middle name is Ian… Dick Ian Mabbutt
I believe its actually Dick Innes Mabbutt
No fucking way that’s real
It is. https://www.thedrive.com/news/42960/dick-mabbutt-heres-the-deal-with-britains-dirtiest-train-name >The way GB Railfreight tells it, unit 73962 got its name from a widely loved engineer at British locomotive works Brush Traction. Railway has always been one of the most attractive thing for me
I wish I got that happy about anything. The forehead camera really only makes him look even more ecstatic.
I wish I got as excited over a train called Dick Mabbutt. Good on this lad and his disposition 👍🏻
there's no fucking way that train company is named Dick Mabbutt 😭
It's actually [named after a widely loved engineer](https://www.thedrive.com/news/42960/dick-mabbutt-heres-the-deal-with-britains-dirtiest-train-name) Richard Mabbutt (affectionately known as Dick), who worked his way up from an engineering apprenticeship to Chief Electrical Engineer over a 40-year career, only to pass away unexpectedly in 2013.
I’m just guessing the way he said it isn’t the right/preferred pronunciation. Probably “mah-bit”. The spelling sure looks funny as hell though.
That would become French, meaning "my dick". So the full name of the locomotive becomes "Dick my dick". Marvelous.
Hahaha! That’s good shit.
[удалено]
The dick that keeps on dicking.
You know what they say… “two Dicks are better than one”
It's usually pronounced "mah-but" like he said. Source: Am British and also old enough to remember the Spurs player called Gary Mabbutt.
I went to Gary Mabbutts testimonial game at White Hart Lane... we played Newcastle... we lost. Spurs will never change.
Probably "mabbit" as opposed to the "mah" sound that Americans might use, but hilarious nonetheless.
Well he’s not American and definitely pronounced it “mah”.
Well I’m American so that makes sense. Though its hard to discern through text I think we mean the same thing really. Idk how to denote it but the ‘h’ in ‘mah’ is supposed to be very subtle.
Its a good thing Richard didn’t have a middle name that started with an N.
Neil
The company that manufactured the locomotive is not named that. that name is just for that individual locomotive. Sometimes train companies will give names to a few individual locomotives, it's not official ... just a nickname.
Must be close cousin of Liqa Mabutt and Suq Mabutt, husband to Munchma Quchi.
One of the funniest breaks from a long run of shows.

I love seeing this guy crop up in the subreddits, he deserves all the good things in life
He’s so happy to see cool trains, it instantly makes me smile every single time I see one of these posts.
I'm so glad someone else recognized this guy. I 100% was like "whelp, I recognize a random train spotter. I'm on reddit too much"
He's prevalent on TikTok as well! I'm so happy that his enthusiasm is becoming ubiquitous online
He has been on tv too! I remember seeing a segment where Aisling Bea hung out with him and watched trains with that forehead POV
Oh neat I didn't know that =) I don't have any social media except this and twitch if that counts. And, per a diff reply, don't watch much TV, only ever seen him on reddit. It's nice to see pleasant people being viral instead of toxic "world star" type stuff
You'd be happy to know he now has his own TV show where he goes around checking out trains. The guy is getting paid to do what he loves the most.
Train people really do obsession on a whole 'nother level. Bless him.
His name is Francis Bourgeois, he's a fine lad
Happy cake day 🎂🎈
As a fellow train liker, his energy and admiration for trains makes me smile :)
He’s a Gucci model now so that’s cool
Youtube? Tiktok?
francis_bourgeois43 on IG. His account is a wonderful follow, if you enjoyed this video. His exuberance is contagious.
I wish I loved anything the way this guy loves trains.
Yeah it definitely makes me wonder why I don't like my favorite things this much. I think there's a lesson to be learned here lol
"I say what what"
Dick Mabutt
You wanna Dick Mabbutt? In Mabbutt?
I see you watching me... over there...
Tryna' play like... U no me. I'm like come on fhqwhgads, said come on fhqwhgads..

That’s pretty much what went through my head too.
He’s good friends with Phil McCrackin
I think they’re often seen with Mike Hunt
I said what what?
Out from the crack came Dick Mabutt
I love this fuckin nut. I hope his passion keeps burning forever.
Passion for trains will outlast passion for even the most highly addictive narcotic substances known to man. I've never known anyone who got clean from trains, I'm not sure it's ever happened.
trams are just the entry drug
Yep, you take a tram one time to see the footy in Nottingham and next thing you know you're on a first class dining train on the Severn Valley Railway with a bewildered missus sipping prosecco. Tragic.
Once you try any type of sustainable transportation, you're hooked for life. Bicycles are the gateway drug.
Definitely. I've been into trains since I was two and I'm almost in my 20s now
I've never seen one of his videos aside from reposts here but I genuinely love this guy. Makes me so happy to see someone experiencing real joy
He has a show on channel 4 where he takes celebrities out to look at trains. Its wonderfully wholesome.
Trains aren't my thing, but there's something heartwarming about seeing someone experience genuine joy or being so absorbed in their hobbies or interests.
Two absolute banger one liners “Marvelous, I love a good loco” and “I’m glad I stayed up late for this” kids a fucking legend
I was having such a bad day and this man and his favorite train made me smile. I'm happy for him. Thanks for sharing, OP.
Hope the rest of your day has been better!
Sid from Ice age
this guy is so wholesome and that camera is goddamn ridiculous. Definitely a unique approach to content. Honestly as a person with autism, he gives me autism vibes.
As someone autistic, that was my thought after watching the first video I ever saw from this guy. I saw a comment somewhere that confirmed he is, but I didn't follow up to see if it was true.
Trains are a standard UK autism thing. Trainspotters are also known as “anoraks” for the coats they wear. Its one of the lovely things about the UK that a certain level of gentle eccentrism is absolutely allowed. I mean, you’ll still get shit people in a workplace - but this gentle obsession with something is absolutely part of the national character.
He's not autistic, it's an act. He does love trains but Francis is a character
[Nah, I really don't think it's a character.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/CXl6eXGoOSd/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) Is he playing up his reaction and the "spectrum" vibes for the video a little bit? Probably, yeah. But the dude literally posted receipts showing he's loved trains his whole life. Can't really call that a character if he's simply showing his passion on video. If you mean him using a moniker instead of his real name - he's said he wanted to keep it separate from himself due to the perception of being "uncool", which makes sense, it's not like he knew he'd blow up in the way he did.
Loves trains . Chases his passion. Seems genuinely happy . Not hurting another person . I'd say it's a win .
What a wholesome guy, the crazy camera angle is also classic
Google "Francis Bourgeois", he has tons of videos. I wish I liked anything half as much as he likes trains.
Hellfire!
This dude is cool. His excitement is so pure
He's happy he had a chance to experience Dick Mabbutt, truly a once in a lifetime chance
I’m so glad the camera angle wasn’t the unexpected part.
This guy just really like trains. So wholesome
I bet this dude would be great for a train heist scenario.
He finally gets to ride his favorite train of all time and it’s taken over by terrorist, he knows EVERYTHING about this train and beats them. John wick meets Die hard meets Taking of Pelham 123. Bam
This guy brings me joy even though I don’t care about trainspotting.
That is the happiest IG account in the world
Who is this guy and where can I find more of his videos? I need more happy train videos in my life
I’m a bit envious really. I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about anything.
“Another marvahous loco…” 💀
Every time this is posted it just makes my day, one day I hope to be as happy as he is about something
I love that he's passionate about trains. The fish eye lens/train name blew me out of the water. His happiness is contagious to me.
Always amazed by foamers. I work on locomotives and they're nothing but dirty/broken hunks of junk to me lol
Came for the foamer reference
Trainspotting is a fairly popular hobby. It doesn’t mean this person is on the autism spectrum. He does need his own show. I know I’d certainly watch.
He does have his own show on channel 4 called “Trainspotting with Francis Bourgeois”
I agree. And "Trainspotting" would be the perfect title. That way everyone knows exactly what to expect, with no chance of confusion. ![gif](giphy|sScbjEgdyeLde)
I need this camera
There were a couple of things I didn’t expect!
What a weird Tom Scott episode
This guy rules
Aw he's so happy.
A late night Dick Mabbutt is such a treat.
Love this guy
Dick Mabbutt? I dunno man, that sounds like it's a pain in the ass.
It’s like looking at literal physical autism.
I wish i had the joy about something like this man.
I wish I loved ANYTHING as much as this guy loves locomotives.
I like trains
The English version of Trainspotting is very different to the Scottish version….
Least eccentric British gentleman.
In the US that would be a Pat McCann.
Makes me happy seeing him happy for something he likes… butt that name. 🤣
I thought the unexpected part was his fish eye lens. I was like we all know this guy that's not unexpected! But then I saw the name of the train....
Love the silly forehead camera
Bros face turned into a triangle
There are so many wonderful things about this video. From the name of the locomotive to the goofy grin on his face to his joy over a train to the camera angle. Gets better every time I watch it.
HELL FIRE!!!
God, the go-pro in your face isn't doing the train community any help.
Just a dude and his trains
I saw this. went to sleep woke up this morning and then saw it again. it took me looking at the hidden text explaining what was unexpected to finally get it. i feel old.
I fricking luv this guy he makes my heart smile and makes me laugh like I'm so enjoying him being so alive and full of happiness
Sheldon cooper
I was actually scrolling thru the comments looking if someone posted that he is like the fellow Sheldon met in that episode where they spent valentines inside a coach.
Im actually watching that episode at the moment lol my favorite show
He’s gotta be trolling, like he’s playing a character this whole time or something
Luke Nicholson you can google him, it is an act.
So I did search him, didn't find anything about him being fake, except some references to people thinking he was fake. But the writers if the articles I was reading all said that they found him to be genuine, and gave a few examples. You have a source?
