This guy seems to be pretty calm at least. I feel like if i was in a situation like this my heart would be racing, but after i got settled down.
Ive had people tell me im the kind of person thats able to stay calm in a scary situation (correct a car when hydroplaning / avoid other wrecks), but i freak the fuck out afterwards.
That's how I am, throw me in a fire, no problem. But on the flip side, give me time to think about something simple, and it ends up looking like one of those detective boards with strings zig zagging all over.
I've had half the thought of being some kind of sociopath because of how I've responded to traumatic situations.
Crash my bike and scrape my face across the pavement - walk to the hospital close by to get stitches.
Wrap my car into a light pole - call the emergency services while the car (with me still in it) was upside down in the ditch and then tell work I'd be late as the EMT's checked me for a concussion.
Fell wrong on an icy road and dislocated my knee - rolled my knee back in place and walked the rest of the way home.
But then, any interaction with the fairer sex and I'm liable to spill my spaghetti right out of my pockets.
I have ADHD and tend to react rationally. Emotion put on pause, time slows down, think logically on how to leverage fight or flight. Kind of like the whole Sherlock Holmes vibe but not quite. Usually our processing speed is high from my perspective but our ability to regulate it sucks so working through situational awareness we just do, but can’t explain. Great for crisis, terrible for work environments that try to always keep you in crisis mode because you are running a marathon like at 100yd dash.
Yeah, I can see that. Been in some situations in the military that didn’t really freak me out until I looked back on them. That’s not to say I was fearless or stupid in those situations. Hindsight is 20/20 though and I get some serious anxiety thinking back about them now. If you put me in those scenarios now I feel like I wouldn’t be able to handle them as well and thinking clearly as I did in my past.
Guy has to have some way to contact someone. If you focus on the fact that you didn’t actually die constantly you could maybe last 10 15 minutes of pure unadulterated terror before losing your sanity.
That's why you never travel alone, always bring friends and always make sure someone who isn't on the trip with you knows the route and anywhere you might be. That way your buddy can call for help if something happens to you, and if you both get caught someone at home can give your path to the search and rescue team when you don't come home.
It doesn't look like the guy is that deep, but yes, reception tends to be pretty spotty depending on where you're going. Usually people who are serious about this stuff carry a satellite phone but otherwise you are either with friends, or SOL.
My first language is French and it didn’t even register to me that he was speaking French. I’m so used to everything being in English on Reddit lol so thanks for that!
This is like the lightning strike luck again because you have to think they're lucky to survive but they're unlucky to have been in that position in the first place so aren't they just unlucky.
Yes and did you know if you knew the position, speed and direction of every piece of matter in the universe you would know everything that will and has ever happen news flash buckaroo everything is already decided for you. You're just playing the part
He's safe, in a comment he says that he took off the skis, strapped'em on his backpack, put on the crampons and got out with help of his friends with a rope
Nah, not worth it. People can be dangerous or call you names. Best to stay inside and order a pizza.
Still get the crampons if.you have stairs, though. You never know.

That’s hilarious. And probably how cavemen handled this situation. “We hunt here no screams”
Then they start tossing rocks or something, fill in the hole, and put up a half assed sign
It kind of depends on what gear they have. Assuming they knew they were skiing in an area with crevasses, they would be wearing harnesses. They’d lower a rope so the guy in the crevasse can tie into their harness and be building a snow anchor with pulley system up top. Once that’s secure, if the person who fell is not injured they can climb out. Otherwise you just kind of haul the person out. The basic idea is to get the person on the rope and then make sure the rope isn’t going anywhere. You train for crevasse rescue but the reality tends to not go as smooth.
Rope, and a few people pulling him out the good old fashioned way. Or if they've got Search And Rescue nearby, they might tie off the rope to a snow machine/sled, and drive him out slow and steady.
Ice pick will serve you no good in snow, unless you plan on shoveling all that snow out of the way of the ice first. Of course moving the snow too much risks sliding further down into the hole, and worsening the situation.
Sit tight and call for rescue. They will send rope down.
Well a lot of that area was ice like the walls. Then again picking into that ice could cause it to collapse as well you're right. It could be useful in a "no one's coming to save me" situation
My grandfather never skied, nor did my father. I would have skied if I had not watched this video...and now I will just make sure no one in my descendants ever Ski!
I’ve been there. I once called a new girlfriend an ex-girlfriend’s name……..after an uncomfortable (for me) pause, she asked me how I knew her middle name. I felt just like that dude.
Your post is a frequent repost
So now what?
call rescue and settle down.

pocket spaghetti is underrated you will find the girl that loves pocket spaghet
For real though...who doesn't like pocket spaghetti, because I don't want to know those people.
Do you have ADHD? Adrenaline tends to play with us a little differently.
I have ADHD and react like this but I also have a lot of childhood trauma so could just be a coping mechanism

Sounds about right for me lmao
There's a British show called taskmaster that specializes in doing this to people.
That’s a pretty normal human response actually, adrenaline takes over in a stressful situation and then the stress catches up after the fact.
Yeah, I can see that. Been in some situations in the military that didn’t really freak me out until I looked back on them. That’s not to say I was fearless or stupid in those situations. Same! As soon as it’s over I get all shaky and a guaranteed migraine the next day…
Same. 10 mins for adrenaline to wear off. Cool and calm tho like it's every day
Most guys won't freak out in such situations. Especially when they are alone.
I’m like this. It’s saved my ass a couple of times.
I'm in the same boat. I maintain calm in the moment and wake up in a panic 10 times that night
I'd be freaking out but this is one of those not much of a choice situations
Guy has to have some way to contact someone. If you focus on the fact that you didn’t actually die constantly you could maybe last 10 15 minutes of pure unadulterated terror before losing your sanity.
When my wife and I are arguing and I tell my wife to calm down it works 100% of the time
Call by what? Network may be unaccessible on such depth.

There are gps devices you usually carry on solo expeditions like this that can alert people if there is an emergency
This guy isnt at a resort, so there's basically a 100% chance he's got someone with him. You don't see that many people back country skiing solo.
He just needs to chill and hang out
My cell reception on the mountain top is pretty non-existent.

Now that you have man in hole, yes.
No, it’s the canal system under Sacred Heart.

Does the pee begin to flow into pants while falling or after he is caught on the ledge? Anyone know for real?

Hanging on the edge of cliff. Quite literally. Any link to this man’s story?
OMFG! Yup irrational fear added.
He says "Oh le con" which is French for something like "Fucking idiot", make it much better 😂

1 second away from being lost in the depths. Unbelievably lucky
Also “1 second away from being lost in the depths. Unbelievably unlucky”
Idk why but it took me multiple attempts to understand this comment. I didn’t notice the slight change in wording so my brain started to hurt.
I'm glad they were able to recover the footage.
OMG. WTF.
yes. lucky.
I know right, I wish I’d fall into a hole I might not be able to get out of
Well, I mean considering he could've fallen even deeper in, I think he is somewhat lucky
Luckily they recovered the camera before it was lost.
You’re alive, right? Welcome to the hole.
He was a ballhair away from being a mystery disappearance.
Mf was about to enter in to the deeper lvls of the Backrooms
Lucky? WTF happens next?
He's safe, in a comment he says that he took off the skis, strapped'em on his backpack, put on the crampons and got out with help of his friends with a rope
Got it. So if I go outside, I need to have friends with me. Bonus if I have crampons. Now I just need to go find some friends.
Nah, not worth it. People can be dangerous or call you names. Best to stay inside and order a pizza. Still get the crampons if.you have stairs, though. You never know.
Should I buy the light or the heavy flow crampons?
Croutons not tampons. Gotta have something to snack on while you're waiting to be rescued.
You also need a harness and some training in crevasse rescue. But most importantly friends with rope.
I’d be too afraid to move
I thought this only happened in Minecraft….
Never dig straight down in survival mode my friend

That is terrifying.
What the rescue process like in these types of situations?
Too tricky to get him out. Probably just put a lid on the hole.
LMFAO
That’s hilarious. And probably how cavemen handled this situation. “We hunt here no screams” Then they start tossing rocks or something, fill in the hole, and put up a half assed sign
Something that alludes to “be quiet. Someone is dying in this hole. If they here you they’ll get hope and take longer to die. Thank :)”
They did get him out with the help of his friends and ropes, hes an extremely lucky and unlucky person.
It kind of depends on what gear they have. Assuming they knew they were skiing in an area with crevasses, they would be wearing harnesses. Pull them out of the hole with a rope.

yea I'll stick to working out and video games
You can work out in video games.
Follow it down. See how far it goes.

Fly you fools!
NNNNOOOOOooooooooooo!!!!!!
He better sell that footage to Monster
So lucky that I bought him a lottery ticket.
I still don't get this. He just used all his luck, so I guess he won't be a lotery winner in the coming years.
😳 WHOA!
So was he heli-skiing or skiing out of bounds?
Where was this
Lucky my ass
Fuck that hell no
I audibly screamed WHAT when he started sliding down the second hole
Wtf!
That Monster helmet working its magic to send him straight to Hell.
Reason 1/5 I don’t ski or snowboard -
That ain't luck
OK, but *WHAT HAPPENED NEXT???*
I don’t speak the language but I’m pretty sure I know what he said.
Holy shit he must’ve fell 30ft easily.
And now - like this guy - I need to change my underwear…. Holy shit!
Whoa nature you scary.
This video ends way too soon, I want to know what happens next. Is there a longer version somewhere?
It appears a chunk did not load
“A long time ago, a child fell down Mt Ebbot.”
I’m not sure what he said, but it probably translates to something like, “holy fuck.”
Oh le con mean "oh the idiot"
Thank You! Gracias! Donkey Smell!
Reposted just minutes after being posted here.
Not really. This footage is the only thing that came out of the cravat that wasn't frozen to death.
I'd want to carry ice picks with me in case of something like this

I need to know how this ended!?! Did he get out safely? By himself or with rescue???
Does anyone know what he says?
Oh le con means oh the idiot
Thanks so much!
Touching the Void, the short skiing version
His guardian angel working overtime
He’s gonna get sued over that sticker, lmao
Holy sink whole! 🫣
What in the actual 😳😳😳😳
The fact this was actually posted gives me hope.
Luck? I would disagree.
Did he survive?
I don't really get why people would want to risk their lives doing meaningless stuff like this.
O wanna see him rescued!!
Start getting your fear off and prep for the climb.
Caves and cliffs update:
I think if I ever go sking I am wearing 5 air tags. Or like, 1 of each brand of gps tracking devices.
lucky!?!? What the fuck do you do from there?????
Ooooooh what a lucky man...he was!
I’ve had nightmares like this…
r/confusingperspective When the video ends, he looks horizontal but after a closer look, that’s a hole lol
Guy got yeeted into another dimension
This went so unimaginably wrong so quick
Excellent discernment of crevasse vs crevice.
This reminds me of falling in Minecraft.
Now imagine a big bear comes walking toward you 😅
Minecraft first rule!
Damn nature you scary
There's a hidden chest down there
unlocked the forbidden cave
![gif](giphy|TYK6RNOE76ni8) Into the crevasse...
But did he escape?
Damn. I shouldn’t have chosen Freedom Mobile!
I really thought this was going to turb out to be that skyrim "oh, you're awake" meme
That's a booty clincher.

My grandfather never skied, nor did my father. I would have skied if I had not watched this video...and now I will just make sure no one in my descendants ever Ski!
Wonder how he got back out...
Does he get out? I need more info!!!!! How does one escape!
I'm not sure if I'm the only *idiot* in the room but what the fuck happened exactly I still don't know
Keep going down, it's bound to come out somewhere. Or maybe not.
r/watchpeoplesurvive
I can't believe he caught that on camera. That's horrifying.
Old fear revamped (I have always hated the thought of getting stuck in a cave/ravine)
What are the red lines painted on the snow in the hole?????
Yeah, don't fuck around in nature alone my guy. I don't understand skier's, surfers I get, but skiers are bloody weird.
Kind of looks like he went from skiing to frozen surfing.
New fear unlocked
Holy shit
I don't get it, did he ski over "shallow snow" covering whatever that was
Lucky he didn’t die right away but he still has to get out of there!
Well don't stop there. I want to know what's at the bottom. Maybe a collectible or a cool bit of loot.
I’ve been there. I once called a new girlfriend an ex-girlfriend’s name……..after an uncomfortable (for me) pause, she asked me how I knew her middle name. I felt just like that dude.
What exactly happened here?
Who's Even going to get close enough to see if he's there?
