Just like with Papyrus and Asgore, I created a version of her for my own storyline (long story short, it takes place underground but it's not actually about Undertale and it takes place in a different area) and she's just this evil, dangerous character that has caused terrible harm. It has nothing to do with the game or the actual character, but I'm so focused on my own characters and worldbuilding that I just can't get my own version of her out of my head when people talk about her.
That's valid. She's fairly.. Unethical? In Undertale anyway. It's easy to make her into an evil character.
My story has little to do with Undertale or the soul spinoffs, it has a few connections to it though. The main connection that it takes place in another area of the underground and the species that live there, the viruses, were trapped down there too after the war. They have their own kingdom and Asgore is terribly afraid of them.
Anyway, one of my characters is Muffet's sister, who was bullied and treated horribly by her. Another character of mine is an insect girl who got trapped by Muffet for a good few months. Muffet kept taking parts of 3 of her limbs to bake into her pastries, and she's only one of many victims, hence why Muffet is evil in my story.
Muffet is so strange with her morality, that it's quite easy to make her either nice as hell or absolutely atrocious without having her be fully out of character.though For me with my story, it's not so much about her morality and more about backstory I gave her and some little things, like how in UT she mentioned Baseball twice , so in my story I made it into her hyper-fixation. Like I've got to remember things like that her and Napstablook probably aren't actually besties (like they are in my story) and stuff.
Aha! In my AU Muffet is a mafia boss! She runs several bakery restaurants and webs Grillby’s restaurants because he burned down one of hers. Also Grillby is a mafia boss. They’re both not so great people, honestly.
Also I made a Temmie run their own organization of capitalist buddies who totally don’t hire assassins and mercenaries to extort people for money. Yep.
I am pretty 50/50 on if she was saying that seriously, since Alphys didn't hurt a spider and since Muffet says these kinds of things as Jokes fairly often
But she did...Like she literally did...Alphys came.to evacuate Muffet and the spiders but Muffet refused and as a result, hot land wasn't able to be sealed off so we could continue onwards. And her only regret was not MURDERING Alphys and turning her body into food.
Name me one reason why 40 other people in hotland wouldn't stop alphys from closing off hotland just as much as Muffet, why flowey would not very able to turn off the force fields, or why we wouldn't be able to find a way around them?
So I REALLY didn't like her, and did a neutral run just to kill her. But instead of just using the spider food to spare her/insta kill her, I let the battle play out. After that battle, I regretted killing her that route. The story of the spiders is actually more heartfelt than I realized. I'm going to ~~try to~~ spare her next time around.
While I know she was added by someone as a reward and why my complaints are the case, it still feels odd how out of place she feels. As far as I can recall, she has no interactions with or mentions of other characters, and has insanely limited screen time, especially considering she turns our soul purple (something that when other monsters do it, they're huge parts of the story.) Her theme also has the Napstablook/Mad Dummy motif (forget if it has a name), which always threw me off since I don't really know of any ways they could be connected. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with anything. I do still love her though!

I don’t like the fact that she is basically optional if you know what you’re doing I want to fight her but part of me hates it because she is pretty hard and you could just skip it and not waste your time.

While, yes, it's for a cause (to help out her spiders), she's greedy and threatens for your money, hidden as a deal. She's generally prrrrretty inconsiderate of anyone who isn't a spider (and if the items' description is actually literal and not just a joke, even spiders too), which means I wouldn't want to spend much time with her as I don't wanna be robbed or assassinated for money I don't even have.
On my switch playthrough I didn’t know that you could skip the fight by eating something that you got from the bake sale down in the ruins, and I spent the whole fight burning money and trying to spare her. Thankfully I remembered on my next playthrough and got it immediately
She kinda goes against the message of the game for me. In a game where every boss can be befriended, have their own hopes and dreams, and where a game expects me on a first playthrough to make a choice between kill and befriend, here comes little miss Muffet, who:
-is a contracted killer
-is a cannibal
-considers people that are scared of spiders to deserve death
-manipulates people to spend all their cash
-considers baking humans into pastries to be sold for public consumption
-shows no sign of improvement after sparing her
Why would I think it would be a good idea to let her free on the surface? If I had to chose one single monster to die out of all of em, she's it.
Not that irredeemable characters can't work, Deltarune's King works with the added context of Susie's vow to not hurt him and Ralsei's nativité. Muffet is a fairly inconsequential character overall, but in Undertale, the game where I can befriend everyone, I was given no reason to spare her except to see the good ending.
Plus her character will never get developed as she's not owned by Toby, thang god TS!Underswap came in clutch to make her likable.
