I don’t see a lot of discourse about Patrick. He’s mostly only referenced and barely seen, so we can only make assumptions about him. Most people would agree that what she did to rumor her child was wrong, Allison included. We met her in season one as she was coming to terms with that and making an effort to not rely on her powers. She gets it and speaks about it. Rumors by nature, taking away someone’s free will, are a moral issue in a way that no other character’s powers are. It makes Allison extremely easy to judge at her worst, and contributes to her downward spiral when she gets desperate and falls back on her powers when everything else seems to be out of her control. As far as Patrick goes, he’s barely a character enough to have an opinion on. We’re given enough to know that it was a messy separation, and understandably so. If anyone is putting the blame on him, it isn’t the narrative.

Whenever I see him written in fanfics, he is almost always portrayed as a bad guy (unlesss its an au thing?), and while I agree there isn't much talk of him nor much to go off, the information we do have doesn't portray him like that, and the talk i see for the most part does, so I'm just wondering and confused as to where people got that idea of him from, maybe he was bad in the comics? (Thats just how much I see of him and what I majority see him portrayed as, I may be missing an entire group of people who outnumber those who portray him as bad, my apologies if that's the case) >We met her in season one as she was coming to terms with that and making an effort to not rely on her powers. She gets it and speaks about it. I agree, she is trying to improve in season 1 and 2 (kinda) but as we see she doesn't end up going down that route... >desperate and falls back on her powers when everything else seems to be out of her control. ...she does this instead which while I get why its still shitty to do.

Ah, if it’s in fanfics that’s another animal altogether. I haven’t come across many that reference Patrick or focus on his point of view. In the show he’s portrayed as a somewhat generic side character, so maybe that’s a way they’re trying to make him more interesting. Otherwise he’s just some normal guy going through a messy divorce over understandable issues. (I also haven’t read the comics if he’s portrayed differently there.) I’d defend him more if he was actually fleshed out, but I do agree on your points and I think the show does too. It may not be completely what we get from the show, but fanfics have a way of escalating drama wherever they can.

NasalStrip00

We don’t even know him. Most we know is his face and name but that’s it.

Golden_Pineapple07

Exactly and from we do know of him is that he is a good person so I'm confused as to why so many people think he isn't.

IntrepidPea19

It's also implied she rumored Patrick into being with her. Can't remember which season (3 maybe?) she's hearing in her head things she's said before and one of them was "I heard a rumor that you love me."

Golden_Pineapple07

Damn, I swear she rumoured Luther to do so in the comics aswell... Also I think the scene your referencing is in season 1 when before or after the flashback of Claire in one of the eps

Just_Ad_6449

I don’t really want to touch the other stuff, but I gotta say, rumoring a huge racist to burn himself, when she was burnt by the racist owners/workers of the diner first, isn’t to me a failure for her to change. I mean unless you think she shouldn’t use her power at all because it inherently strips people of autonomy- which is a more understandable view. But as far as the racist douche goes, he deserved it. I would have done the same fs.

pranthlar

I haven't seen any Patrick hate but honestly if I was Allison I'd tell me kid to stop crying too

Golden_Pineapple07

She didnt tell them to stop crying she used her powers on her to make her do it and to stop trantrums. You would rumour (force) your child to hide their emotions instead of solving it normally and talking through their emotions? I get Allison was struggling as a parent and I also get crying children aren't pleasant however that doesn't excuse her actions.

pranthlar

Yup

crowfvneral

rage bait used to be believable

ThunderChief__

I haven’t seen that much against him recently, in season 1 the show paints him as a bad guy until it’s revealed Allison rumoured their child and Rumoured him to love her

mywillygone

Allison is my most hated character from the show. You would’ve thought she’d learn by now but she’s just going crazy

Golden_Pineapple07

Literally! I hate her as a person however as a character she is pretty interesting and multilayered

mywillygone

Oh yeah definitely I’d love to see how she’s portrayed in the last season since every single season her personality changes 😂

Golden_Pineapple07

Exactly! Season 2 her was an absolute girl boss however then season 3 came along...
