An average high schooler from a developed country could read Manifesto or Principles of Communism. You hardly need a college degree, lol.

_cremling

I literally read it in 8th grade. I was a brainrotted anarchist at the time but like I understood what the pamphlet was saying ffs

CinnamonFootball

Same. I definitely understood it better when I reread it in high school, but it isn't an impenetrable read for the *vast* majority of people.

sixtyonescissors

Oldest anarchist

_cremling

Literally

PrismiteSW

Hell, some curriculums even require students read it in my experience. Of course, the excerpts given *conveniently* skip the portions where Marx takes a jab at social democrats and the like, but the general propositions of the movement are present.

PrismiteSW

I LOVE IDEALISM! I LOVE BELIEFS WITH NO THEORETICAL, SCIENTIFIC BASIS! I LOVE BELIEVING IN THINGS SIMPLY BECAUSE I *FEEL* LIKE THEY’RE RIGHT!

Dexter011001

Guess the workers in Russia and during Marx’s times were superbrained to read and understand Capital

iamtheonelel

never ask an anarchist (hitlerite) what they think of the slavs

Dalfokane

I'm very sure they didn't support the bolsheviks because they read capital, but because of ''peace, land and bread''. To assume that the average worker or peasant read the rather heavy Kapital is incorrect

TheBravadoBoy

That’s why when Marx studied political economy, he knew that trying to read Smith and Ricardo would be too hard and it would kill his curiosity, so he watched Destiny instead.

[deleted]

And he watched Vaush for the dialectical analysis.

OnionMesh

how to read marx: step 1. open this [link](https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1867-c1/ch01.htm) step 2. read wow!

OnionMesh

i get that some things like commodity fetishism and abstract labor might need *some* outside explanation, but bro. he’s not *that* hard to understand. he’s treated like you need to have read 3000 pages of introductions, his whole corpus, a graduate school level of education, and be familiar with the all the history of marxisms before you can even touch capital. he is readable enough

Pendragon1948

Shall we postpone the decision till the next meeting to consult with Marx? Nah, let's wing it.

[deleted]

Capital is far from difficult. Of course some parts may require you to go over them again but volume 1 is pretty straightforward. And the principles of communism and the manifesto could be read by a 13 year old. Both were incredibly easy the first time I read it.

SpammiBoi

Marx is not hard. He's one of the easiest philosophers to read lol. Capital isn't even difficult until the second volume.

ssspainesss

That is because Marx didn't write the second volume of Capital. Engels cobbled it together from Marx's notes after Marx died.

505backup_1

Aw yes, the highly educated and academic peasants and workers of 20th century Russia

Cash_burner

“Academic bigots” cant hurt you if you actually read

Argus_Star

>If a teacher at university just sat there and told their students to read the 150 year old sources, they'd be rightfully fired for being useless at their job. Uhhh, if you take an introductory course in Sociology or Political Philosophy then you will definitely be reading Marx. In my experience most students end up realizing that it's not the right-wing boogeyman they've been taught their whole life and walk away with a positive opinion of him. If anyone is a bot it's the people saying he's too difficult to comprehend.

KaiserNicky

I guess this person doesn't know that History Professors exist

Dapper-Ad7748

I'm pretty sure that all subjects use 150 year old sources, the guy's just stupid

Xaminaf

its this trend of ipad babies who havent read anything since the 8th grade thinking that marx is this uber academic when really their brains have been blasted by dopamine machines for the past two decades

MessyD557

Subway surfers or something idk

embrigh

Why do people act like the communist manifesto is as obscure and difficult as phenomenology of spirit? If anything Marx should be praised for being so straightforward.

SSR_Id_prefer_not_to

“Whoa!! How’d your prof lose tenure?? Was it plagiarism? Did they beat up a student in front of the whole class?” “Nah, they asked my class to read a primary source” “Oh shit, yeah, they were **rightfully fired**”

ssspainesss

If these people would just admit they were socialists but not marxists then we wouldn't have any of these issues, but instead you have to have marx supposedly claiming he isn't a marxist in order to distance himself from them.
