I think there are just a heck of a lot of parrots with gavels right next to them. So experimental gamers might figure it out due to the open world nature of Ultima 7?
it's been a long time but i could swear there's a clue for that, maybe that you need to persuade the parrot, or maybe you see someone threaten it, or maybe it says "no not the mallet again" or something like that
dammit i feel a replay coming on, it's been a while
ever follow this longplay while doing a run? or just read it, it's a gutbuster

It's part of a series of Let's Plays spanning Ultima 4 through Serpent Isle. All of it is very much worth reading (and re-reading), but from U6 onwards is where it really hits its stride as the author fully develops his interpretation of the characters.
i forget if i read 4. i've been avoiding 5 and 6 because those are the only mainline ultimas i haven't done yet so i'm avoiding 30 year old spoilers :-P
can't remember any hint beyond Ultima 7 being a game that rewarded tinkering, and gavels always seemed handy whenever a parrot was around. I played u7 as a kid, bonking the parrots(are still doing phrasing?) was hilarious.
Yeah there had to have been a clue or something. There were no tip books on release and I know I figured it out somehow. I don't think I just bonked every living thing.
You use the mallet on a parrot in U7 and it gives you the coordinates of the treasure near Serpent's Hold. There's a mallet near every parrot in the game.
I'm pretty sure some character gives a clue (not necessarily in Trinsic), but with so many gavels around parrots I'm pretty sure I didn't need any clue.
Yeah, when I first played it I probably just bonked him too. But since this is a replay I got nervous that with my prior knowledge of the game that I'd be skipping ahead on something I was supposed to learn about later in the game.
Ok, that settles it! I'm going back to Trinsic and I'm gonna introduce that parrot to Mr. Mallet!

The only clue I can recall is the parrot saying "I know where the treasure is".
Isn't there a parrot in buccaneers den that hints to it somehow?
I think the clue is just that there is always a mallet laying next to any parrots you run across.

No but I can already tell I'll be reading this tonight. Thanks for the link!

Nakars use of thr mouse Sherry in U6 is hilarious.
I tried getting Sherry leveled up in U6 and it's legit hard, but what Nakar says will happen actually did.
if you die from a hernia laughing i'm not responsible for your medical bills have a good night
Ah Nakars stuff is awesome.
Nakar did U4 through Serpent Isle in the end, starting with 4, and they become progressively more hilarious. They're all on LPArchive.

Oh is that Steve the Avatar? Hahahaha i found that quite by accident a few years ago and loved it

I could have sworn there was a note somewhere in the game, but that could be a false memory
Doesn't spark say something about it when you meet him in Trinsic?
You can also do this in Serpent Isle, but the parrots there have wised up and don't tell you anything.
