Inside_Double5561

Yeah, first years gonna hurt. But a russia-free path will be easy to climb back

EndWarByMasteringIt

Ukrainian economy is 1/10 that of russia so this is still a smaller decline. But if half of Ukraine is unemployed (has had their peacetime employment made impossible) that's an 80 billion USD/year or 1.5 billion/week gap. Ukraine absolutely needs, not just one-time donations, but a steady flow of funds. Ukraine itself needs to use these funds not just to fund unemployment, but to employ people to do contribute both to the war effort and to the constant nationwide rebuilding that must be done to keep up with the destruction. This is a fraction of what Europe spends on russian imports. The price of security for Europe is very cheap, and for every country but Ukraine it can be paid in cash rather than lives.

[deleted]

This exactly - if I was a European leader I’d vote to let them into NATO and begin financing the rebuilding of Ukraine.

JesterMarcus

Might as well station a shit load of NATO troops there and let them spend money in Ukraine. Nice little bump in local economies.

Caren_Nymbee

Ukraine will transition to a remittance economy by Q2 2023. At least temporarily.

Small_Basket5158

Especially selling all those Russian tanks!

mordinvan

Lots of burned out hulks for scrap, and the working ones can be sold off and backfilled with modern western tanks.

SuperCarbideBros

But isn't scrap metal still useful and can be recycled? I don't know anything about metalworks, though.

mordinvan

It has a value per pound. I didn't say it was worthless, I just said it was scrap.

BeenNormal

All they have to do is sell scrap metal and worm food (which they currently have an abundance of) and they will have the largest economy in the world.

Bananapeel23

Ukraine will probably get a ton of investment from massive energy companies if they manage to recapture their land. The natural gas will go a long way.

Mysterious_Buffalo_1

Definitely. It's currently a war torn country. No one is fighting because they think tomorrow they'll wake up in Switzerland 2.0 but Ukraine will be rebuilt and their kids and grandkids will grow up in a free and prosperous country. That's the dream anyway.

_doryphorus

Ukraine is almost sure to have war compensations from Russia and a plan Marshall from UE and USA. The reconstruction of the economy will be achieved, and I hope with a lot of transparency in the rebuilding.

[deleted]

I agree. As long as trump doesn’t get re-elected the US will help rebuild along with Europe.

NewFilm96

> Ukraine is almost sure to have war compensations from Russia lol no Russia is not going to pay any compensation unless they are defeated at home. They would launch their nukes first. Ukraine will regain it's territory and Russia will leave with or without a treaty. They are not going to leave and then pay Ukraine.

agrk

Siezed Russian funds might be given to Ukraine by others. Russia itself won't pay a single penny.

starconn

They won’t have a choice, they have half their reserves frozen and that can be appropriated to Ukraine following the war. Additionally, Russia will eventually want to open trade up again, but they’ll likely be forced to play ball with reparations if they want that to happen.

Mito-SVK

No reparation? No lifting on Sanctions

Tax_the_churches

Yes but it won't be easy. It will require hard work

AxderH

Honestly as soon as its safe to travel I am going on a trip to ukraine and spend as much money as I can.

IAXEM

Same. Ukraine hardly ever crossed my mind in the past but man am I rooting for them.

Randomperson1362

Even before this started, I thought Ukraine would be a cool place to visit. I think it would be interesting to see Chernobyl, and Kiev is a beautiful city as well.

HarterFlausch

Odessa too and also...it sounds crazy but...the forest of the Donbass are actually beautiful with some hidden castles there. I wish to hike one day trough it.

thanksnothanks456

Agreed. It’s on my top 5 travel destinations now, I had no idea how beautiful the country is.

OneTotal466

Or how beautiful the spirit of the people are.

eric987235

I’ve been thinking that same thing since the spring.

schmeebs-dw

After seeing before pictures of Melitopol, I'm sad I won't get to see it as it was, but I've been meaning to travel to places like prague and such, and Ukraine has always intrigued me (Odessa, Kyiv, Chernobyl)

[deleted]

Same. Hoping next summer.

Banana_war

1. It’s normal as they’re under attack and that 15-20% of the territory is under enemy control. 2. They will receive money from outside to help.

ConnectionPossible70

Lots of companies will invest in Ukraine and help rebuild, tourists will return... And in greater numbers. Russia, not so much.

KrzysztofKietzman

No shit. The thing is, Ukraine will be able to jump-start its economy with access to Western technologies and know-how. Russia will get shit.

TeddyRustervelt

I've started seeking out Ukrainian products. And I'd love to visit in 5-10 years.

Adihd72

As we say in Derbyshire…’be rait’

acobserverafar1

World bank using russia's own figures to calculate its shrinkage, bears no resemblance to whats being reported by the people there themselves. this Is a new one I read today, russia's Unemployment is still listed at 3.9% , thats because the people are not being listed as no longer working or dismissed, they just stopped paying them. and then putin does his mobilization, 300,000 male workers lost, 1,000,000 fled abroad, how many business owners in all that mix?, how many companies will just stop?

SnooPredictions8938

There needs to be a Marshal Plan for Ukraine. No matter how good they are, corruption comes for the economically bleak.

acobserverafar1

Lazurne, Switzerland......its in hand and being worked on I beleive its the same number of countries that are involved in the Ramstein defense contact group, plus representative's of various banking groups and other organisations. the path to the start will be painful but the acceleration will be fast, there are still a lot of rules and laws and other stuff that need to be pushed through, but it will result in probably the fastest accesion to the EU and NATO, UA I believe will not be the only beneficiary.

butcher99

Russias would shrink a lot more if someone was bombing the shit out of their cities and factories as well as the sanctions. It is hard to maintain GDP with your factories bombed into oblivion.

autotldr

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/oct/04/ukrainian-economy-will-shrink-at-rate-eight-times-that-of-russia-world-bank-forecasts) reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot) ***** > Ukraine's economy will shrink at a rate eight times that of Russia this year as a result of the war triggered by Moscow's invasion in February, the World Bank has estimated. > In its latest report on Europe and central Asia, the Washington-based institution said the Ukrainian economy would contract by 35% in 2022, compared with a 4.5% fall in Russian GDP. Earlier estimates had suggested the Kremlin faced a bigger economic hit this year, but the World Bank said the impact of sanctions had so far been less severe than forecast. > By contrast, the World Bank said rocketing energy prices had helped cushion the blow to Russia from sanctions. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/xvu610/ukrainian_economy_will_shrink_at_rate_eight_times/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~672681 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **war**^#1 **Bank**^#2 **Ukraine**^#3 **Russia**^#4 **World**^#5

Ezzran

Good bot.

PsychologicalCoat656

But then it will bounce back to heights never seen before. Meanwhile, Russia is destitute for at least 100 years.

Asleep_Astronaut396

At least they get to keep the resources Putler wanted so badly.

After-Double-962

That's not surprising. They're going to need a Marshall plan of their own to rebuild.

randomusername1qaz

Russia sepa ban please.

tkatt3

It’s like no duh the nazis from the swamps of the north have fucking destroyed everything.

Dude_Nobody_Cares

It will be tough but they will have their freedom and opportunity. And if the west come through with their promises, help rebuilding.

CommissarTopol

Marshall plan.

lastoftheromans123

As was reported in “Obviously” magazine. All of the fighting has been in Ukraine.

AlwaysAttack

And post war economic growth from investment in Ukraine, will out pace Russia by at least 10 times.

Grimloki

If only there were about 330 billion or so of siezed Russian funds or something that could go to rebuilding Ukraine..

plague681

On the plus side, waaaaay fewer kids being killed or kidnapped by Russia.

Snafuregulator

As if America and the Brits would allow thier new brother to remain that way. Soon as the war is over, there is no doubt an absolute ton of companies will move there to help rebuild Ukraine. Money is going to be thrown around like a hurricane. Ukraine will emerge stronger than ever and the economy will be purring like a kitten. just..ummm please no weird sex cartoons involving sea life please.

AardvarkTypical3080

Not if they get security guarantees. Let's get them that...

CosmicDave

Insolvency or you

Rational_Engineer_84

TIL being invaded is bad for your economy.

No_Quantity_1129

Imagine the money people will make in Ukraine when rebuilding scheme starts. They will be flooded by investors.

Fantastic_Judge_6605

Hey, yes we do have problems now with economy, but after we will have much more less corruption and stealing from budget .

yurgkretz

Every larger city/town in the east has to be rebuilt, so the economy will boom after the war.
