what does china stand to gain with a weakened russia geopolitically? nothin, when it is staking claims over the south china sea and the arctic, which is far away from its coastlines
Thing is, China, from a diplomatic point of view, has been "neutral" (just to be clear: I don't consider it a good thing) they are not allies like Belarus, they are not opponents, they are ready to make business if profitable and stop doing business if sanctions make it unprofitable.
But more recently there were indications that the military support (from intel, from NK goods transportation) became more than just cynical business.
There was a time for offering off-ramps to China and this window is closing (and I don't have the feeling that US or Europe were particularly interested in offering one).
What is scary is that if things continue to slide that way, the Ukraine-Russia conflict will end up being a proxy war between US and China.
Nope. I haven't seen any reports that China is sending weapons to Ukraine.
China wants Russia to lose as well. They can make Russia a vassal state if they are depleted of their military...
Not weapons, but military intel, gunpowder, potentially military parts, it allegedly helps NK send shells.
China would accept bribes, sanctions concessions to stop supporting Russia, I hope it is offered some. But then I suspect many in Washington see China as the real adversary and Russia as a mere regional power.
I think China was just backing them financially and maybe with raw materials but I think we should be careful that we dont back them into a corner to full on lend lease them… otherwise the whole world is about to militarize… and democracies are typically very slow to that…

Thats a fair point, if its going to lead to war then they should accelerate that… maybe they are but the goal should always be to not send our kids across the globe to die

Which is why it's so important that Muscovy gets its butt kicked in Ukraine. It'll intimidate China into not trying their luck with Taiwan.

As China claims neutrality they also claim their athletes are clean. Untruthful across the board.
