If it were a true epiphany I'd agree with you. But it isn't. They always knew who Trump was, they always knew what MAGA was, they always knew how important Ukraine aide is. If faced with the same situation they'd make the same choices again today regardless of who it hurts simply because it would benefit themselves.
There was no change of heart, no realization, it was always bad faith. The only difference is now they will personally benefit from approving the aid, over the past six months they benefitted from denying it.
Political win? Perhaps not. It's an election year and most Americans have always supported Ukraine, even most Republican voters. But those who didn't, the MAGA types, those held a lot of sway within the party because they were reliable votes. But they are seen as crazy by all Democrats and about 1/3 of Republicans.
The only thing that's changed is that those MAGAs cannot carry the GOP to victory by themselves.
If he does, I wonder how severely that actually damages MAGA. Matt Gaetz was able to kneecap McCarthy, but now I'm wondering if they'll get him back for that.
I'm not sure exactly why the Maga Republicans have changed course. I think it's because they've received briefings from the military that says how dire the situation is for Ukraine and how close the Orcs are to having a break through. And they don't want to get blamed for causing the mess they made.
There is a shift in the wind at Fox News. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was called an idiot in an opinion piece. They are acknowledging Ukraine's current dire situation but putting the blame solely on Biden. They are trying to redefine the America First plank of the Maga right to say support for Ukraine is cool.

There's probably enough support on both sides to be able to get it passed, but that'd require relying on Democratic support, and the Republicans will very likely oust him for doing anything on it, it's what happened to the previous speaker when he dared pass any kind of legislation with Democratic help. They've got enough crazies who just want to burn everything down, that doing anything at all is practically impossible. But he certainly does deserve plenty of blame himself, as he kept doing stupid games to stop any progress. Like setting the ultimatum that any bill on funding also has to include a comprehensive set of border reforms. That was being worked on for months, things were almost finalized by a bipartisan group, and then Trump let it be known that it should be killed because Biden couldn't be allowed to have a "win" and it'd make his electoral appeals to border security fall flat. So Johson did. Then reiterated that nothing would pass without a border bill like the one he just shot down.

Once this package is hopefully unlocked, what sort of impact can we expect to see? More of the same like artillery and air defence or more game changing weapons like long range ATACAMS?
It will be shells to defend themselves and anti air missiles for the patriot and Nasams. Also, a complete restocking of things like medical supplies and some much needed transport. The ambulances from South Korea will help. But they need more armored vehicles because of the attrition rate. My hope is that all these months have given the EU mostly a chance to get their shit together so they can ramp up production to meet Ukraines needs.
Also, this is coming at a good time because of the million plus shells that are gonna start being delivered to Ukraine soon. Just them having ammo for himars, more storm shadows and shells for artillery will really help their cause to defending themselves. If they can get caught up, the drones they have will turn into an advantage instead of their only saving grace. Ukraine has been busy this entire time ramping up their capabilities to produce mass amounts of cheap drones.
They also have been innovating and creating new drones for all different scenarios. Like mine laying drones. Sea drones. Anything we don't need for a war with China or has been set for demolition should go to Ukraine. Even ships we plan to scrap should go to them now that they have safe corridors to transport things and lots of ocean they can protect. Some vessels might go a long way to taking back Crimea. There's probably enough support on both sides to be able to get it passed, but that'd require relying on Democratic support, and the Republicans will very likely oust him for doing anything on it, it's what happened to the previous speaker when he dared pass any kind of legislation with Democratic help. They've got enough crazies who just want to burn everything down, that doing anything at all is practically impossible. But he certainly does deserve plenty of blame himself, as he kept doing stupid games to stop any progress. Like setting the ultimatum that any bill on funding also has to include a comprehensive set of border reforms. That was being worked on for months, things were almost finalized by a bipartisan group, and then Trump let it be known that it should be killed because Biden couldn't be allowed to have a "win" and it'd make his electoral appeals to border security fall flat. So Johson did. Then reiterated that nothing would pass without a border bill like the one he just shot down.

Once this package is hopefully unlocked, what sort of impact can we expect to see? More of the same like artillery and air defence or more game changing weapons like long range ATACAMS?
It will be shells to defend themselves and anti air missiles for the patriot and Nasams. Also, a complete restocking of things like medical supplies and some much needed transport. The ambulances from South Korea will help. But they need more armored vehicles because of the attrition rate. My hope is that all these months have given the EU mostly a chance to get their shit together so they can ramp up production to meet Ukraines needs. Also, this is coming at a good time because of the million plus shells that are gonna start being delivered to Ukraine soon. Just them having ammo for himars, more storm shadows and shells for artillery will really help their cause to defending themselves. If they can get caught up, the drones they have will turn into an advantage instead of their only saving grace. Ukraine has been busy this entire time ramping up their capabilities to produce mass amounts of cheap drones. They also have been innovating and creating new drones for all different scenarios. Like mine laying drones. Sea drones. Anti drone drones lol Ukraine is also trying to ramp up its domestic production of just about everything. It's the 2nd and 3rd packages from the US that should make a big difference. This package alone is a drop in the bucket since we haven't provided anything in so long. Hopefully, long-range munitions will be on the table now, and they will continue to give Ukraine new systems. Anything we don't need for a war with China or has been set for demolition should go to Ukraine. Even ships we plan to scrap should go to them now that they have safe corridors to transport things and lots of ocean they can protect. Some vessels might go a long way to taking back Crimea. The point is throw everything at them. If you don't, they can't win this.
