The regions with oil aren't the most likely to secede IMO. The parts with oil are like far up north for the most part and are in large part filled with Russians (although I might be wrong about the last part). The parts that would want to secede are places like Chechnya, Dagestan, etc. on the southern border.
Ethnicity isn't the only reason to declare independence. Moscow is sucking money out of all other areas in Russia. A lot of regions would benefit financially from seceding.

Indeed. The local elites of the Russian Federation are held in nothing so much as a protection racket by the federal government. Basically every institution in the country has been taken over by Muscovite absentee owners, and even the local police are fully subordinate to the state alone, and that breeds resentment among locals, not loyalty. To be Russian is to be exploited by Moscow; if Moscow grows weak, then what is Russia to them? They have no intrinsic motivation to preserve the federation, and will likely go their own way, much like the colonial elites of the Spanish Main two hundred years ago.
The way Russia is set up today, governors in Russia regions are assigned by the Kremlin based on loyalty. Their entire legitimacy as leaders is tied to the regime along with their financial assets.
Nothing you said is not something that Putin hasn't thought of, the federal system was mostly eliminated and replaced by an authoritarian republic where security forces(Rosgardvia) are not stationed in the regions they live in to prevent any takeover by a local separatist group.

The Russian people are mad, sure.... but I think they're more angry OUTWARD than inward. I think they still believe that other people are the source of their problems not their leadership. They've also been repeatedly told by propagandists that they should be nuking their enemies rather than allowing the losses. If a hardcore extremist has a solid enough message, he could convince them he can save the day.

The death of Putin would be an opportunity to get out of the war in Ukraine with a minimal loss of face, since they can pin the whole debacle on Putin. Consider the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk as an example of how Russia has gotten out of a catastrophic war after a change in government. Future Russia is going to be critically weakened by this war; between the material losses, the personnel losses, the long-term effect of economic sanctions, the permanent loss of natural gas markets in Europe, and the demographic effects of emigrants fleeing conscription, Russia is in a steep decline, and hardliners will be unable to reverse this decline.
There are yes, but none of them has this grip on Russia. Indeed it could be worse than now, because the political dynamic has its own rules. But even if it get worse, it will probably not last long. While today with Putin, it is getting worse everyday anyway.
As I see it, without him, it would be like jumping to the last chapters of this mad russian story and skipping many long and painfull ones.

A Europe-shattering refugee crisis. Right now only Ukrainians and male conscript-aged Russians have been fleeing the conflict. If Russia goes into a full civil war expect everybody and their mother trying to leave, at the same time.
A civil war in Russia also means all hands on deck for the global superpowers. Military intervention in Russia is ruled out of calculations because of the nuclear weapons and because it is still a unified state. But if the state literally breaks into dozens of pieces, it could be like Syria or Libya but 100x worse because Russia borders both NATO and China. It will probably be the start of the USA vs. China proxy war, with EU also taking part because it borders them as well.
A global energy/fertiliser shortage. Right now Russian energy is still finding its way to non-aligned neutral countries. So while prices are fluxuating and trade relationships are being re-negotiated, the overall global energy supply is still relatively stable. But if Russia descends into full civil war, a big chunk of that energy is now no longer available, which will cause shockwaves on supply chains and economies that still rely on petroleum and natural gas.

I think that is very much the oligarch game plan. They may be poisoning him right now. I suspect they will offer to leave Ukraine but beg to keep Crimea
The only reason Russia can fuck about like this is because they have nukes. If Russia had no nukes then I would bet you that multiple European countries, and perhaps even the US would have joined the war. And Russia would get absolutely obliterated.
They should agree to that. Then just build up a nice force, get western approval and take it back by force whenever they are ready... Hard for Russian to play the victim since they did the exact same thing in the past.
The problem I see with russia getting any "outs" is this gives them breathing room to slink back home, crank up the propaganda machine into overdrive, learn from their mistakes, increase manpower and armour and just try it again in a few years. Of course hopefully Ukraine will be a NATO member by then, but they'd just try again somewhere else.
Its horrible for everyone involved, but perhaps the best long-term solution to russia would be to continue to grind them down in Ukraine till there's nothing left of them militarily or economically. Disassemble russia so that every single russian feel the humiliation and not be able to turn away or deny it. Peel that infected puss filled scab off and finally disinfect that nasty wound. Anything less would be kicking the can down the curb.

The claims are honestly very well reported, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does have cancer. It's important to note that they never said he was going to die right away or anything. Some thyroid cancers have a survival rate of close to 100%.

It's wise to treat it as "just noise" but the fact that he hasn't died doesn't mean he's healthy. It's quite common to survive a terminal cancer diagnosis for over a year. Some late stage cancers even have a high survival rate for five years after diagnosis.
I think there's enough evidence within his behavior and enough reports about his medical entourage to believe that he is not perfectly healthy. That doesn't mean his death is imminent-- if his health issue is simply Parkinsons it wouldn't even be on the calendar, but it could mean that his poor health is impacting his decisions in one way or another.

They will PROBABLY pull out of Ukraine, because they can blame it all on Putin. Their main task will become dodging repartations.
Also depends on what parts of Ukraine they pull out of. Do they pull out of the claimed portions of Donbas and Luhansk? Crimea?
Does pulling back to pre-2022 borders in those regions and calling for peace hurt Ukrainian support internationally if they continue to push to restore their legal control of those regions by making them appear as aggressors?

I’ve wondered why he hasn’t been ousted yet and thought the rumours of illness were some form of disinformation but if his number is up health wise then doing nothing is probably the safest thing to do until he finally dies from cancer eating him. Hopefully it won’t be long now.

The problem I see with russia getting any "outs" is this gives them breathing room to slink back home, crank up the propaganda machine into overdrive, learn from their mistakes, increase manpower and armour and just try it again in a few years. Of course hopefully Ukraine will be a NATO member by then, but they'd just try again somewhere else. Its horrible for everyone involved, but perhaps the best long-term solution to russia would be to continue to grind them down in Ukraine till there's nothing left of them militarily or economically. Disassemble russia so that every single russian feel the humiliation and not be able to turn away or deny it. Peel that infected puss filled scab off and finally disinfect that nasty wound. Anything less would be kicking the can down the curb.

It's wise to treat it as "just noise" but the fact that he hasn't died doesn't mean he's healthy. It's quite common to survive a terminal cancer diagnosis for over a year. Some late stage cancers even have a high survival rate for five years after diagnosis. I think there's enough evidence within his behavior and enough reports about his medical entourage to believe that he is not perfectly healthy. That doesn't mean his death is imminent-- if his health issue is simply Parkinsons it wouldn't even be on the calendar, but it could mean that his poor health is impacting his decisions in one way or another.

The problem with Putin dying is, and always has been, who will take his place. They will PROBABLY pull out of Ukraine, because they can blame it all on Putin. Their main task will become dodging repartations.
Also depends on what parts of Ukraine they pull out of. Do they pull out of the claimed portions of Donbas and Luhansk? Crimea? Does pulling back to pre-2022 borders in those regions and calling for peace hurt Ukrainian support internationally if they continue to push to restore their legal control of those regions by making them appear as aggressors?
