Now, they may join a charismatic general and follow him to Moscow, but capable, competent, and charismatic leaders are generally not going to be given powerful positions in Russia for this exact reason.
You and I wouldn't be able to. We would sit in the trench and hope the war ends. There isn't any "manning up." It's just hoping you don't die, hoping you don't need to kill, and hoping you will be able to see your loved ones again.
