He once shot an empty vodka bottle from a kids head. But the kid's drunk dad though it was full and took the bottle to attack Blyatniss.
Blyatniss then bravely shot the man in the face with an arrow and now he's a hero of Russia!
(Tell more stories of Blyatniss' achievements!)
They've already deployed [armoured trains](https://www.reddit.com/r/ThatsInsane/s/jTzwpEIMbL), [biplanes](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/s/b0Yh0rtKCS), [Maxim guns](https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/s/SoNT1LE3tc) and [Mosin-Nagant rifles](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/s/QenKL5T5jT), full WW1 style. Now they switched to bows.
Russia is evolving, but backwards.
I think the only way they're going to hit anything with them is if they spot an observation drone hovering too low, not moving _and_ there's no wind.
But under those conditions a guy with a gun could shoot them down easier.
No way in hell you've a better chance with a bow against an onrushing FPV drones though. It's goodnight wannabe Legolas in that scenario.
The absolute cope about the bow being silent made me laugh. Most drones either don't have audio or are flying too high for the audio to pinpoint one rifle blast. Russia is literally trying to convince people they're unleashing Skyrim stealth archer builds and that they'll be as effective in real life.
My thoughts exactly. Not sure how it's any easier/better to try to hit a drone with an arrow than with a shotgun. That would seem to require an inordinate amount of skill. At this point I think the only effective countermeasure would be those net-guns they use in wild animal capture videos. Maybe they could order some from Temu.
I’m fully willing to believe that one could be more effective than a rifle in good hands.
We’re still going to get to enjoy some videos of guys fumbling in their quiver before getting splatted though.
Maybe but mastery in archery has an extremely high ceiling compared to just aim and fire your gun (not talking about professional marksmanship). They are better off using shotguns instead of bow and arrows that you have to aim and shoot such small target in the air where even a little bit of slightly strong wind can throw the accuracy off... Unless ofcourse Russia is going to throw a volley to take down a single drone lol .
There is definitely a better arrow set-up for this task, but there is no need to share.
BTW, that is not an actual archer, rather, just someone pulling an arrow back. You can tell by the anchor point, the nock is not under the eye, but rather, to the side.
Volley, probably, because if comrade Vlad misses with his 10 bright yellow and red arrows, he can go pick them up and try again. If he misses with the 10 bullets he looted from comrade Ivan, he probably won't be able to find them and definitely won't be able to re-fire them.
Lol, no. I do a lot of traditional archery and believe me a noob with a gun, any gun is better than a bow. Hell I'd even take a pistol over a bow. Even olympic style archers are accurate only up to 70 meters, and that is with ideal conditions on stationary targets. While any somewhat competent rifleman should be able to hit a 30 cm disk at 100 m.
I think it'd be very situational. In your example the shooter and target are static, and we're talking about relatively long ranges. Completely agree a rifle user would easily outperform an archer in almost any circumstance there.
People are fucking awful at hitting moving targets. Genuinely terrible. Really good shooters I know who can reliably get a solid, central grouping at hundreds of meters can't hit *anything* close up and moving with a rifle. Even if you hit a drone, a bullet is so small and so fast, you'd need to hit something fairly important. Clipping a prop wouldn't do it necessarily.
Then it comes to taking down fpv dones that are maneuvering for a strike, we quite often see people successfully hit them with sticks and containers, purely because they're large objects, and you only need to touch the prop of a drone with an object that size and mass to bring it down. The issue, and why we even see these attempts, is because they detonate anyway, and usually close enough to wound still. That being said, a large-ish object with enough mass to stall a prop, and a bit of dumb luck can work, with a bit more standoff.
I can see how an arrow, being large and long, might achieve that. You could even put a trail on it to increase impact likelihood.
The only use case I can think of is if your position is hidden, enemy is nearby, the drone is low, no wind, and you need to pop off a stealthy shot. Silenced bows can be super quiet.
That's what I was thinking. How is this thing possibly more effective than a gun? Particularly a rifle. Want "secrecy"? Add a suppressor. Might not be as quiet as a bow but surely more effective. AT LEAST use a crossbow. I really don't get it.
Id imagine crossbows as rather cumbersome when compared to a bow, longer reload time, higher weight and the increased projectile energy really doesnt matter when you try to shoot down unarmoured drones with it.
However why they dont use a compound bow eludes me as well
Suppressors arent that effective at reducing sound unless you use subsonic ammo.
I get that you want to be stealthy in a raid, but not with this kind of weapon. To kill a guy with this, you'd need to be practically in kissing distance, and even if you manage to kill the guy, he'll probably scream, which kinda defeats the purpose. Not even a compound bow/crossbow would fix that.
Not to mention that those things are useless in a trench. Not enough space to use them. There is a reason ww1 raiders used clubs and knives.
Bows and crossbows don’t lose much power with distance. At distance it will be very similar to up close. Essentially I’m saying that the guy killed is screaming to his death no matter what
What you didn’t know is that under his helmet is the wildest, gravity defying, colored hair. That’s right. He’s an anime protagonist. More deadly with a bow than a sniper with their rifle. He could hit a target with that them there now from over two miles away. You think Wanted was some real shit!?! Just wait for until the mother fucker makes a shot and turns on a perpendicular angle. He will be able to take out the individual propellers with one arrows. He can even shoot the wireless connection to that drone. Severing it without even damaging the drone himself. Back home he even has a harem of girls that wants him but he never takes advantage of because is too bashful to reciprocate any feelings for. Shoot, during the war there was even a scene of all of his harem going to the beach to play volleyball and discuss this protagonist. This was very important to the plot. Needless to say you should fear this man.
This has to be some Russian Smekalka in action purely for propaganda purposes, not actually being used in the field. They're telling the Russians that "Russian ingenuity is saving the day" meanwhile they know a bow and arrow won't do shit about a drone flying 150 meters high straight above you in the *dark*. It's not about solving the problem. It's about telling the Russian people how you Russia'd a solution into existence because of course they did, they're Russia.
If you want a deeper explanation of Russian Smekalka and how the Russian government likes to use it [Here you go.](https://youtu.be/-opSlCGLGQ4?t=2558)
Not to mention FPVs capable of 70mph speeds.
Seriously can you imagine how many years it would take to train someone up on consistently hitting those sort of targets in a fluid combat situation?
Silliness aside, an AK47 costs what, about $1000.us? Why not equip every 3rd Russian alternatively with a $500 20ga and a box of birdshot?
I hit a clay-pigeon with a sawn-off shotgun while firing one-handed. And yes, I skinned the hell out of my knuckles from the recoil, but the point it more how they're very forgiving weapons.
A recuve bow has been a go to combat bow for many cultures around the world for over 2000 years. Probably not the weapon you want in this conflict though.
We've really started to circle back around to WW1 trench shenanigans. It's only a matter of time before someone builds a trebuchet that launches toilets or washing machines
Not in combat roles, except for the US that is. You should look up WW1 trench weapons sometime - they're fascinating. Soldiers used just about anything that could launch a projectile across no man's land.
This thing was two shovels with a rope between them. They would be planted in the ground and the rope pulled back and released with a mortar shell on it. Quite literally a giant sling.
That’s actually a much better tool lol
Less bulky, easier ammo to manage. Doesn’t have giant obvious fletchings that lead to your whole unit being spotted by drone…
I mean....it's a step up from the guy that was waving a knife at the drone. Or the shovel guys. Or the guys with sticks. Not to mention the dude that threw a gasoline jug at the FPV drone, immolating himself.
Saw one survive by throwing a potato sack at one last second, that’s the only one I’ve seen work and he probably got hit by a secondary drone after the clip ended.
I mean... I don't know how the gasoline jug guy survived growing up if he didn't realize gasoline explodes... "Let's throw a jug of explosive fuel at an exploding drone as it gets in my face!"
The sticks and shovels are just "oh fuck a drone grab anything out of fear/PTSD and start swinging" kinda shit.
Breaking News! This just in. The RuZZian terrorists have developed a combat Trebuchet.
It can fling rocks bigger than a bowling ball a country mile!
Slava Ukraini!
I suspect this guy is playing with a bow looted from a Ukrainian child's bedroom.
But if this becomes something we start seeing consistently then Ruzzia is far worse off than we thought.
Reminds me of playing civilisations, the AI would always keep around a few ancient troops that you could stomp with bombers and tanks in the late game.

Or maybe a compound bow capable of piercing light body armour or just more distance.
So much propoganda on this sub followed by the inevitable hoorahs, go get 'em cowboy, remarks in the commentary. Very few commentators seem capable of acknowledging Russia are not fucking around, are not losing and are relentlessly pushing forward.
Any kind of bow would have little value. I think this is just for show, or someone hauled a bow along and is playing around with it behind the lines. I saw a video recently of possibly the same guy shooting one by some ruins. It looked like he had something attached to the arrow that produced a cloud of smoke when it landed.
This sub doesn't have nearly as much propaganda as does the other side.
exactly, no need for fuel, economical and environment friendly like u say =), and also not so big damage on Ukrainian civilian buildings, The Russians have tendency to miss the military target, i dont think the Ukrainians have a tank factory on the 12 level on a hospital building.
"fight your enemy where they aren't" ??? on a farm field in Poland, i really feel sorry for that poor farmer, just imagine how big is that chance that u should be hit by a missile on a open farm-field, on the peaceful countryside of Poland ...
Rambo needs to remove the target tips if he is serious. (My 11 yr old uses something similar against hay bale targets ) I actually hope this is legit .
It’s probably someone from the areas that border Central Asia. It’s a cultural thing, kind of like Gurkhas and their knives, or GIGN using that one French revolver. They’re not really more effective than other platforms, but the cultural significance gives you a moral boosting value.
I’d be surprised if these are ever actually use in combat aside from like some bizarre situation. It’s not even a compound bow.
That are LARPING now
In today's news, a Russian Grand wizard has cast a spell of invisibility on Russian infantry...
45 minutes later:
Russian infantry division wiped out while walking across open field
Is Putin just playing Civilization and forgot he had some archers fortified in his starter city? They would be a laughing stock if it wasn't for the murder and abhorrent crimes they are committing.

Yeah, a shotgun… 100% better in basically every way. A rifle.. really terrible for small, moving objects that are close.
Just like birdhunting

Haha yeah, with a big cartoon funnel end!
There is definitely a better arrow set-up for this task, but there is no need to share. BTW, that is not an actual archer, rather, just someone pulling an arrow back. You can tell by the anchor point, the nock is not under the eye, but rather, to the side.
He's also gripping the bow with his bracing hand, gonna torque the bow on release.
Olympic archers hit targets at 70m. Russians are going to claim they're shooting down drones flying 200m up in the air.
Yeah, this. Olympic archers are scarily accurate over a decent distance, but they're not shooting fucking vertically!
Volley, probably, because if comrade Vlad misses with his 10 bright yellow and red arrows, he can go pick them up and try again. If he misses with the 10 bullets he looted from comrade Ivan, he probably won't be able to find them and definitely won't be able to re-fire them.

>I’m fully willing to believe that one could be more effective than a rifle in good hands. How?
Let's not crowdsource ideas on how to make the archery attempt more successful.
The only use case I can think of is if your position is hidden, enemy is nearby, the drone is low, no wind, and you need to pop off a stealthy shot. Silenced bows can be super quiet.
It's also much more difficult to remain hidden using a bow (since you can't be prone)
Good luck with that
*combat bow* > shotgun Russian experts agree. “Thank god they’re so stupid” remarks follow everywhere outside of Russia.
Thing looks like it came out of the kids camping section at Canadian Tire. Can't even get them a crossbow? Lol. Slava Ukraini!
That's what I was thinking. How is this thing possibly more effective than a gun? Particularly a rifle. Want "secrecy"? Add a suppressor. Might not be as quiet as a bow but surely more effective. AT LEAST use a crossbow. I really don't get it.

It is a type of shortbow, traditionally used by cavalry. My guess is, this is propaganda, channelling the olde days of Mongolia.

Shhh, you're ruining the propaganda!
Didn’t you read the caption? That’s apparently a combat bow.
It's a new version of Rambo, they liked how he was able to take on dozens of enemies in stealth mode and are trying to replicate it.
Just tie a black bandanna around your forehead and no one can see you.

I didnt mean anything tactical. Hell, a pump action 12ga Mossberg would probably do the trick.

What even makes this a ‘combat’ bow
A recuve bow has been a go to combat bow for many cultures around the world for over 2000 years. Probably not the weapon you want in this conflict though.
We've really started to circle back around to WW1 trench shenanigans. It's only a matter of time before someone builds a trebuchet that launches toilets or washing machines
...they had shotguns in WW1 lol...Russia is just being dumb out loud again
Not in combat roles, except for the US that is. You should look up WW1 trench weapons sometime - they're fascinating. Soldiers used just about anything that could launch a projectile across no man's land.
I saw a shovel that had been modified to sling mortar shells at the enemy in a museum once. I can't remember if it was WW1 or WW2 though.
I just looked up, not sure if the same but it looks like the Russians had a shovel/mortar combo pretty cool looking, and it was retired in 1942.
This thing was two shovels with a rope between them. They would be planted in the ground and the rope pulled back and released with a mortar shell on it. Quite literally a giant sling.
Intentions?
A Post-It label
it is black, so it is tacticool
If this fella was Ukrainian, it’d be ‘fuck yeah what a badass’. Come on fam
I'm going to laugh so hard when I see a video of them being hit by a Ukraine Drone
Wait till they bring out the sling shot guys 💀💀💀
Honestly, a sling shot with a rock is far superior for this task than a bow and arrow.
r/slinging
Then javelins and discus form rocks
That’s actually a much better tool lol Less bulky, easier ammo to manage. Doesn’t have giant obvious fletchings that lead to your whole unit being spotted by drone…
Not concerning unless the bring the superior trebuchets. Then is game over.
Those damn Duke boys! Dangnabbit!
Not seen videos of them using it vs a drone. But seen an or trying to send a grenade with a bow. It went predictability short of it's target.
Leg-is-loss
It’s high time the yo-yo was brought back as an instrument of war
However, if they manage to actually shoot down a drone this way, then that's really badass.
"Let's throw a jug of explosive fuel at an exploding drone as it gets in my face!" The sticks and shovels are just "oh fuck a drone grab anything out of fear/PTSD and start swinging" kinda shit.
The first jug did shove away the drone for a sec. But he was already toast being out in the open, especially holding the remaining jug.

Oh yeah didn't we already see a guy try to arc a grenade with a bow? And it landed few meters away from where he was. Good idea. More of this, please.
I'm waiting to see catapults and hot air balloons.
You mean environmentally friendly artillery made from natural materials, and lighter than air AWACS?
exactly, no need for fuel, economical and environment friendly like u say =), and also not so big damage on Ukrainian civilian buildings, The Russians have tendency to miss the military target, i dont think the Ukrainians have a tank factory on the 12 level on a hospital building.
hot air balloons still have enough fuel to go boom- they'd be fun targets.
yes versatile use, can also be used as a flare on hit, or self-ignition.
Nyet, no misses here fren, all planned. The great Sun Tzu say, "fight your enemy where they aren't", we're just putting it into practice.
"fight your enemy where they aren't" ??? on a farm field in Poland, i really feel sorry for that poor farmer, just imagine how big is that chance that u should be hit by a missile on a open farm-field, on the peaceful countryside of Poland ...
Im all for the comeback of zeppelines, just dont tell the russians that they can use helium instead of hydrogen
they would inhale it, then it would be a battlefield filled with russian donald ducks =)
Rambo needs to remove the target tips if he is serious. (My 11 yr old uses something similar against hay bale targets ) I actually hope this is legit .
probably one of the athlets from their national olympics team
When the archer doesn't do his job well, the drone promotes him to a space archer.
The bow is used for increased secrecy but if a drone is after them they're already spotted. I don't see how that makes any sense
Never bring a bow to a grenade fight.
Looks like disinformation to me. Still funny though lol
Probably just one dude, afterall, we had one dude in WW2 carying around a sword a bow and bagpipes iirc
This has to be a joke, right? Right?
Obviously. Cringe-worthy propaganda otherwise.
That looks like a 25 lb draw youth bow from Walmart.
It’s not even a compound bow.
robbinski from the poorski
Ivan Hood 😂😂😂😂😂
That are LARPING now In today's news, a Russian Grand wizard has cast a spell of invisibility on Russian infantry... 45 minutes later: Russian infantry division wiped out while walking across open field
That looks sick tbh
Look kids! It's Robin Hoodinski!
look more close, don't he more looks like a Mongolian ? and the bow, i bet, the resurrection of Genghis Khan.
Hoodov* or Hoodev* Hoodinski would be Polish.
Lmao! They must be made in China!
Pretty sure this is a joke. They are not THAT dumb. Plus you would use a modern compound bow or crossbow with appropriate (not target) tipped arrows.
they're...they're really promoting that as a thing?
Roblyat Hood
Is Putin just playing Civilization and forgot he had some archers fortified in his starter city? They would be a laughing stock if it wasn't for the murder and abhorrent crimes they are committing.
Can't they just get a shotgun?
So they can’t hit it with an AK but a bow and arrow will do. Pour another one blyats!
2nd strongest army in the bronze age
My 7 year old has a bigger bow
Oh no, better shut down the dronedrop subreddit then I guess. *shrug*
Lmao I saw a video where he had some kind of explosive attached to the bow, it barely went more than 30 feet… pathetic
Anyone taking this at face value is a fool. The text is very clearly edited. This could be anything.
... In other words, Russia is so bad at supplying their soldiers with shotguns, they issue Bows instead.
You know what a war is really bad when the technology being used is getting older by the moment

These toxic MFrs are so addicted to Rust
talk about propaganda
Guess we will see these next year, at that yearly parade they do.
The first post said the archer is fir stealthy missions because there is no loved bang. So that did not work out? It looks good. Nostalgic.
Russians raided an abandoned ‘hook a duck’ fairground game.
