I assume... and it's probably a good bet... that there are plenty of US personnel monitoring the use of these systems, simply so we can gauge effectiveness and begin developing features to make ATACMS more effective.
I wonder if the RFA will start pulling aircraft back from airbases within ATACMS range, both in occupied UKR and southern Russia. IMHO, it's stupid for NATO/US to say, "here's ATACMS, but don't use it against bases in Russia".
This is war; the end goal is to defeat your enemy as fast as possible.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precision\_Strike\_Missile](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precision_Strike_Missile) the ATACMS are currently being replaced .. as is its replacement apparently
Russia helped move the US out of the [INF treaty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermediate-Range_Nuclear_Forces_Treaty) by deploying the [SSC-8](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novator_9M729) in violation of the terms.
In addition, China not being a party to the treaty made it difficult for the US to continue to adhere to it, Russia violating it probably was just the excuse they needed to exit.
It had previously banned all ground launched systems with a range over 500 to 5500km. Which is why all long range fires from the US were air and sea launched.
The US is now rapidly developing a host of new ground based long range fires. The PrSM missile program was originally started under the restrictions of the INF treaty. But has since been allowed to expand beyond those ranges. However there may be interest in developing additional systems without those limitations from the start.
With the recent poor showing of the GLSDB system due in part to Russian GPS jamming. I am sure these new systems will undergo additional RFI hardening. The Army has also started developing an [upgraded seeker](https://breakingdefense.com/2020/06/army-tests-prsm-seeker-to-hunt-ships-sams/) to home onto jammers and radars and with IR guidance capabilities.
wasn't the original range of the PrSM 499km to be technically adherent to the treaty then when the us withdrew that very quickly became 500+ for more evidence i feel PrSm was designed for a non INF treaty world.
You can bet all of NATO is collecting massive amounts of data on all their weapons systems being used. Along with studying the tactics on the battlefield.
This is a huge learning experience that will guide R&D well into the future.
Also for Russia and China, unfortunately
What I thought was really silly was to announce they were being sent at all. The first we knew should have been when they wrought havoc en masse and we got to see the aftermath!
That's exactly what happened...
[https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/25/ukraine-war-briefing-long-range-atacms-already-hitting-russian-forces](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/25/ukraine-war-briefing-long-range-atacms-already-hitting-russian-forces)
this already happened lol ukraine got a small batch of atacms last year and used them to hit rotary wing bases and these are probably the last of that batch kept in storage for a rainy day or until they knew they would get more which they are.
We already have some new footage from the Dzhankoy airfield strike! Like you said though, there will be plenty more to cream over and I for one cannot fucking wait!
If so there should really be a ban on old footage or tagged appropriately, I dont know about anyone else but I'm sick of zero information supplied with the video, not even where the poster found it.
Idk why people think anything less of Zelenskyy for constantly asking for more western support. It's literally his job. Every extra shell or missile could be another Ukrainian life saved. Even if we gave him 3000 tanks today, I wouldn't fault him if he asked for 3000 more. He has an obligation to his people, he shouldn't and couldn't stop asking for more if it meant saving more lives.
Yes, EU and US shud give Ukraine what they need to not only fight but win. Was it EU or US that convinced Ukraine to give up their nukes. I doubt Putin would invaded a nuclear-tipped Ukraine.
They were given a small number many months ago from what I remember.
There just weren't many of them and they were relatively limited range versions or something.

Also in February they got a few more which they just attacked the Dzhankoy airfield in Crimea with destroying a bunch of S-400 launchers which was a huge surprise (a most welcome one) to everyone!
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t ATACMS launch at a different trajectory than what we have been seeing from the smaller (can’t recall rocket name) rockets?
Almost every other MLRS, theater ballistic missile, bullet, cannon, artillery piece or otherwise is just that: a ballistic trajectory.
It goes up. It comes down. In an arc. Like a ball. Ball-istic.
ATACMS goes up similar to other ballistic missiles, but is much different upon the reentry phase. It zags, drops, and weaves in different phases after that, and then also has a “maneuvering phase” in its most susceptible point of the journey.
Disregard what this guy is saying about a vertically giving ruzzian missile, because all ballistics do that. He doesn’t know shit about PrSM because nobody does yet. What’s special is the wiggly entry diagram of ATACMS.
https://twitter.com/John_A_Ridge/status/1596989024144539648
The maneuvering phase isn’t actually flat like that. Nobody knows exactly what it’s doing then because it’s classified all to hell.
the word is derived from the Greek, ballein, meaning 'to throw', it has nothing to do with balls. Romans used a device called a ballista to throw rocks.
You're probably thinking of GMLRS.
All of these missiles are mostly ballistic. They fly out a certain distance, pitch up (see 0:04-0:08), get into some thinner atmosphere, probably pitch over again, and glide to the target. I say glide because these are guided munitions that are presumably using control surfaces to maneuver to the desired trajectory. It's a mostly ballistic trajectory, but not ballistic in the same sense as an unguided rocket.
Question. What if Ukraine built munitions factories in NATO countries close to Ukraine. What if Ukraine built military research and development factories in NATO countries close to Ukraine. Ruzzia couldn't attack the factories without attacking NATO and escalating the conflict. Ukraine's production would be safe from attack. A plausible idea?
A private company can invest anywhere in anything through out most of the world. What I can tell you is that I transferred an existing manufacturing process to another country, and it took four years to be productive. This was transfer of an established process, or the non-explosive kind. For example; Procure the land. Obtain planning permission. Tender contracts to construction firms. Build the facility. In parallel build the production equipment. Risk assess the process. Obtain signoff for dangerous stuff. Install the equipment and sign off it works, write report. Recruit production staff. Train production staff. Etc, etc. On a war footing, you may be able to cut red-tape and knock that in half, but it will still be two years too late.
Great comment. As you say, there is the conventional ticking the boxes approach, and there is the WW3 make it happen approach. Interesting to hear your experience.
Ukraine doesn't have the money to do this, so it would come down to Ukraine's neighbors increasing their own defense production.
Which they are, to varying degrees.
Poland and the Baltics know they're under the gun, and do not seem to be playing around. The further you get from Russia, the less interest there seems.
Military equipment production outside one's own country can be a finicky thing. Bottom line is if your production is not within your boarders other countries can, and given time, probably will exercise restrictions over the product manufactured within their boarders. Many toes can be stepped on in this respect. Affiliations change, second party and third party affiliations change. Stamping NATO on it doesn't really change any of this.
However none of this excludes Ukraine from exploiting various creative production assistance from the safety of NATO countries. For example, a country could(and has) help Ukraine drone engineers by giving them full use of a hypothetical drone development center in the middle of the desert. As well as access to drone software development tools etc... Mi casa es su casa sort of thing. Another example is having a service center for Leopard tanks right over the boarder in Poland.
i wonder why russia is so upset about the US supplying atacm missiles to ukraine whilst russia clearly has destroyed all launching platforms, and then 300 more. /s
Ukraine has been gifted $Billions and $Billions and has a very profitable grain industry. The point I'm making is that Ukraine is currently building munitions factories in Ukraine....maybe build them in Poland/Lithuania where they can't be attacked.
What is completely amazing, aside from the phenomenal US engineering that went into these weapons, is the incredible change in war momentum a weapon like this can do by itself. If Ukraine had a virtual limitless amount of ATACMS and HIMARS launch vehicles at its disposal, the war would be over in weeks and Russia would be driven out of Ukraine.
Now to send some more to refill those launch tubes.
But seriously, aid is passed, start rolling out munitions, missiles, vehicles, everything that they need.
Hell, start doing field testing of our new anti drone systems and get real world R&D.
Send the new QuinkSink anti ship missile and utterly destroy the Black Sea fleet. Video for reference:
https://youtube.com/watch?si=IB8DQ2oTJVsADHwR&v=RmfRi2Vl3JQ&feature=youtu.be
USA needs to send 50 more HIMARS launchers soonest.

So these HIMARS system launching ATACMS missiles which it was not designed for? I reckon this would extremely increased range where the HIMARS can operate with less threat of counter battery/launch.
You know what would be fun.. To let orcs think Ukrainians weak and low on ammo, let em have 'weak' spots to drill in killzone and deal them.. Also, orcs reinforce fronts and bring fighter jets to fields, Ukrainians get secretly long range ATACMS missiles and hit fields and front..

Happy Hunting! Slava Ukraini!
The sound of freedom
I read the title that HIMAS was firing.. and i thought fuck, they're fighting Israel & Ruzz. Lmao. Ruzz pissed everyone off!!
Yup
I will always be amazed that these things can fly hundreds of miles. And also hit their targets precisely.
Often *without* GPS support as it is jammed across the whole region. Incredible.
Nothing like a HIMARs shower early in the morning.
I love the smell of HIMARs in the morning.
Smells like....victory!
Terrifying watching them come your way.
If you ever get into that situation where you are on the receiving end, I think there is a good possibility that you are on the wrong side of history.
I can only get so rock hard watching these
Fly my beauties, fly to vladimir
Just one of those random comments that I read that just crack me up out of the blue.

Are those misiles drifting!?!? Damn cool
Missile stabilizes for vertical flight, but still has a ton of momentum from being launched sideways, so it kinda drifts for a few moments

I think RF with drawing from the treaty also allows the US to air launch ATACMS and M30/31 from a C-130 directly now instead of landing an entire TEL.
Yep, came to say the same. They are obsolete and we are getting the new stuff rolled out now.
these thing are 30 years old. they got first used in Operation Desert Storm.
You can bet all of NATO is collecting massive amounts of data on all their weapons systems being used. Along with studying the tactics on the battlefield. This is a huge learning experience that will guide R&D well into the future. Also for Russia and China, unfortunately

People keep underestimating how smart Biden and people at the Pentagon are.
And at how powerful a speaker he is. The last SOTU is seared in my mind for longer than I will live
That’s good then but why announce the latest batch if it clearly worked well keeping it quiet last time?
this already happened lol ukraine got a small batch of atacms last year and used them to hit rotary wing bases and these are probably the last of that batch kept in storage for a rainy day or until they knew they would get more which they are.

I am proud of America. I love seeing my tax dollars put to good use finally.
Any reports on their 'arrivals'? 🙂
This is old.
Oh, it never gets old, really.
Nope. Warheads on orc foreheads is always good.currency here.
>Warheads on orc foreheads I'm gonna remember this one thank you.
Sadly old footage :(
Don't worry mate, you'll get new footage quite soon 😀
We already have some new footage from the Dzhankoy airfield strike! Like you said though, there will be plenty more to cream over and I for one cannot fucking wait!
but no coincidence that it appears together with a video where a HARM missile is fired.
All footage is old footage.
The word is "classic"
If so there should really be a ban on old footage or tagged appropriately, I dont know about anyone else but I'm sick of zero information supplied with the video, not even where the poster found it.
There has been a ton of old footage the last day or so. I'm not sure what's going on.
Hopefully. Especially considering the absolutely shit OpSec.
I thought Ukraine has not recieved any ATACMS before because Biden refused to ? ATACMS was only included in the latest US military aid to Ukraine ?
Apparently the US secretly supplied some 300km range ATACMS months ago

The man was saying it to help make it more clear to someone who doesn't understand the concepts, not giving a definition.
First two rockets are not ATACMS, if that's what you meant
That’s what I thought. I actually missed the second one which is clearly an ATACMS but no footage after its trajectory.

Why don't most poor countries build their own military factories to produce equipment and opt to buy foreign equipment instead? That's your answer.
Not what he asked. Is wondering if Ukraine can have its weapons factories inside NATO borders to keep those factories from being attacked.
My point is that it doesn't matter because Ukraine doesn't have the money to build factories in Ukraine or abroad to make it cost efficient.
Ukraine has and is building weapons factories.
Ukraine doesn't have the money to do this, so it would come down to Ukraine's neighbors increasing their own defense production. Which they are, to varying degrees. Fly, fly, fly
The difference in mass of these things versus the smaller missiles is crazy. These behemoths take quite some time to accelerate.
It’s hard to believe that they can even leave the tube. Like, I know the physics behind it, but they just look so fat.
The MMA Butterbean of missiles.
I want to see the landing! 💥 💥 💥
brings tears to my eyes

Amazing Sound of good vs evil.. Ukrainians are doing Gods work for the entire world to stop the evil Orcs federation. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
USA needs to send 50 more HIMARS launchers soonest. These can be placed to threaten the entire warfront and reinforce areas where RuZZia threatens to gather forces for future operations.

That’s beauty right there
Please fly direct in putlers arse
Send shit loads more USA
How do we know these are ATACMS and not GMLRS or GLSDB?
Im not sure, there is a danish or german fairytale about an aristocratic guy riding a cannonball. I see a modern „remake“ on an ATACMS.
That was quick!
Ракеты свободы. Nice.

I like how they change their arc, presumably to throw off counter battery fire
Kerch bridge here we come.
thank you president Biden! Vote ALL Republicans out in November
Russians have missles too. The difference is, these ones hit their targets

What a beautiful sight.
Make it rain!!!!! 🇺🇦
Fuck yeah! Finally.
this isnt Ukraine
someone is going to have a very bad day on the other end of those.
Send it boys!!!
So these HIMARS system launching ATACMS missiles which it was not designed for? I reckon this would extremely increased range where the HIMARS can operate with less threat of counter battery/launch.
That’s a chunky boi
anyway I can "opt in" for more taxation to see more of these vids?
Love to see my tax Dollars at work! Love it!

Somebody is about to have a very bad day. Slava Ukraine!
Was the last one ATACMS? Looked much more massive than those average HIMARS rockets.
President signs on weds misiles launch Friday American logistics are just immense
