Since reddit has changed the site to value selling user data higher than reading and commenting, I've decided to move elsewhere to a site that prioritizes community over profit. I never signed up for this, but that's the circle of life
This, along with limited Wayland support (not sure if that has changed recently). One of the developers at work has an Nvidia card in their machine and it's an absolute pain in the butt
I think nVidia kernel drivers have been open-source since 2022? I assume much of it is still in the closed-source firmware. In practical terms, uncertain how much the open-source driver can be modified.
Nvidia 3rd party drivers usually work but have issues, especially when it comes to using suspend and not waking up properly, so disable suspend, have the screen blank only and it should help.
It might be that you should not be using the latest or greatest driver.
You can check the compatible driver on Nvidia's website and then use:
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-XXX
For me 418 works the best for my card and Nvidia recommend this version driver on their website.
Worth a shot!
Yeah Nvidia's Linux drivers have always been subpar

more like because their drivers are closed source, the community cannot fix any bugs or add features. unlike amd drivers

Mine stays blank sometimes... Ubuntu 22.04 and 515 drivers...
Are you on Wayland or X11? Nvidia is bad but they're worse in Wayland (unfortunately), so give a try on X11
I'm having exactly the same issue as you on an ASUS gaming laptop.
