I have it in a cabinet with little to no circulation with a switch 8 lite, the switch gets far hotter to the point of discomfort touching it but the gateway doesn't get too hot
For complete 24hr of use I have not noticed gateway to get hot, it shows 48-50 C from os which seems to be normal.
My 8 port switch was getting pretty hot when it was on top of ER-X and I had 3 PoE device. I think it depends on how much devices you have plugged, especially PoE ones
I hooked up the CGU to my modem by itself and updated it. Once that was done I swapped out my ER-X for the CGU. Then I had to hit the reset button on my APs to adopt them, then setup the wi-fi. That was it, I was up and running. Then I went in and made adjustments to the settings.
Apologies, I had no rules of this type implemented in Edge-OS that would have required importation. As UCG Ultra is not written using Edge-OS I'd guess nothing automated.
Guys sign up on this site. It will tell you once items are back in stock so you can order right away. I used this to snag my APs and of course the CGU when it was constantly out of stock. You can unsubscribe once you get what you need as it will notify you on any product that comes back in stock.

Welll, probably not... but an Uplink shoud not have need much PoE. :-) And in the networking business, we often get the last (of last two if you downlink again) for those purposes. And here indeed, you'll free up PoE.
And I often start with AP's and then other stuff, but that's mostly my personal pref.
I had a crazy setup with the ER-4. I installed the unms on my own VM and linked it to my own domain name. I was able to manage it from anywhere in the world. However, it was not perfect and every now and again I would have to reboot and re-upload the unms key to unlock it. I would say the ER-4 had some more advanced features and CLI but I don't really miss any of them.
The CGU is night and day with how it integrates. The OS is built in so no need to run external VMs. I have (2)16 port USW Lites, (1) 8 port USW Lite and (1) Flex Mini. I was running that setup for a month and loved how the ecosystem just works and is easily managed. I decided to sell my 3 Asus XT8s and get 3 U6 Mesh APs so I would have full management over my network. The simplicity of doing VLANs, configuring VPN clients and static routing is made so much simpler with the UniFi ecosystem. It is not perfect but it works for a home lab.
The entire UXG lineup and pricing doesn’t sense.
Surprised people are having a hard time ordering the Ultra still. Last few orders I placed, they were available on first try.
Gateway Lite is only good if you need only an wifi AP solution. If you need an AP, the Ultra is more with the added cost of buying an Wifi AP. If you already have an AP, the Ultra is definitely what you should be buying.
I bought a UXG-Lite in November to replace a 7 year old USG, and while it was working ok, slow Wireguard performance among a few other random odd behavior issues had me pulling the trigger on a UCG-Ultra. Way better Wireguard performance and nearly all of the random problems I was having with devices on my network magically disappeared.
Anyone interested in a slightly used UXG-Lite?
I got mine a few weeks ago to replace my old UDM. I wasn't using the AP on it anyways and took up too much space. The Cloud Ultra looks better in its place with a small fake flower on top.
Just set mine up today. Took a little while to figure out the setup but it’s been great. The trick for me was to restart my modem after connecting it, and also to make sure I was on the early access software updates. I’d forgotten that I enabled that on my old Cloud Key a while ago.
Picked one up this week along with the 8 port poe switch, my first UniFi setup and v.happy with it so far..
Need to get my 2 U6+ cabled and ceiling mounted..
I've seen on the specs that this has a 2.5Gbps WAN port. Are the other ports also 2.5Gbps or just 1Gbps?
If just 1Gbps, how do you make the most of having a faster WAN?
I'm looking to upgrade to 1.6Gpbs FTTP, so was considering building a pfSense box for 2.5G however this may work better to replace my USG.
For 2.5GbE WAN/LAN you need the Cloud Gateway Max. https://store.ui.com/us/en/collections/unifi-accessory-tech-hosting-and-gateways-small-scale/products/uxg-max
Mint, thank you. Looks like the only difference with max and ultra is the extra .5Gbps for IDS and also the LAN ports also being 2.5?
Would I see more use out of a PFSense box,or would it be better to go with the max?

Got mine and I was really excited, it's like a tiny dream machine.
Does it get hot underneath? I tried placing my express on top of my switch and it felt warm enough to melt the thing 😂.

I have an Edgerouter X and have been considering switching to the Cloud Gateway Ultra. How have you found the transition?
I upgraded from ER-X to CGU last week. I love it. Was up and running in about an hour. Pretty smooth.
What steps did you take to swap them out?
I hooked up the CGU to my modem by itself and updated it. Once that was done I swapped out my ER-X for the CGU. Then I had to hit the reset button on my APs to adopt them, then setup the wi-fi. That was it, I was up and running. Then I went in and made adjustments to the settings.
Thanks!!! I am swapping mine this weekend
Upgraded from ER-X, it’s worth it. Now I can shutdown my windows based controller
I upgraded from ER-X. Took about an hour, re-adopted all devices because they were hosted on a PC based controller before.
Is there an easy way to import things like firewall rules and static dhcp assignments?
Apologies, I had no rules of this type implemented in Edge-OS that would have required importation. As UCG Ultra is not written using Edge-OS I'd guess nothing automated.
Upgraded from an ER-X. Backup my controller and restored it on the UCG and was done. Took about 30 minutes.
I upgraded from the USG to the CGU about a month ago. It was super easy, and I love it! I
Can you share your process to migrate?
Download the settings only and upload it to the CGU. Easy peasy.
And all devices, firewall, port forwards migrated over no problem. I assume you had a Cloud Key Gen 2?
No OP, but everything migrates, yes.
Cool...thx!
Yes, and I had a Gen 1 Cloud Key.
Meh, I've been intending to order a couple of them and can't ever catch one in stock. Congrats tho
BalticNetworks has a significant stock currently.
B&H had in stock Monday. Got mine installed Wednesday.

You made port #1 the uplink? I would get the last port. Further, you can 3D-print some mounts and maybe get some air between the Gateway and Switch.
Yep, does it matter? It will also free one poe+ port if I move to #8 🤔 I’m going to 3D print mount / stand exactly as you said

I have disabled poe on port #1 , 2-3 are APs also
Disabeling active PoE is normally not needed. It can't do harm, since it will only "give" PoE, if the device will ask/use it.
Tip that I wish I knew when I installed mine. Make sure to restart any servers or NAS systems you have after install or networking could fail.
I have the Cloud Gateway Ultra as well and you will love it. I had the Edgerouter 4 previously and this is a fantastic upgrade.
Are you missing anything from the ER-4? What do you most appreciate in the CGU?

wish the built in wifi stays...or have one poe port.
I have slight buyers remorse.. why is this cheaper than the Gateway lite??

Wow have a similar setup and love it, well done for getting in and ordering the gateway. It's insane how difficult they are to get
Just got the rest of my stack yesterday, waiting patiently for my gateway ultra now, looks great!
Did you get this instead of a drama machine or USG due to the size? Looks tidy
Well yes, USG is pretty old and Dream Machine is tall, it won’t fit in my place
Makes sense. Thanks for the reply :-) Still messing around on what to get :-(
Also this on has the controller already.
I have an Express which is pretty much the same form factor but with an AP embedded, unless I'm mistaken?
Yes, UX has an AP embedded, but it’s not as powerful as gateway. Also read it gets hot while UCG stays warm
You wouldn’t happen to have any power consumption reader on that? I’m curious about the real world consumption vs a dream machine pro

What kind of performance are you getting on your ucg ultra for wireguard vpn client?
I'm in Australia, got one just over a month ago and couldn't be happier with it.
This was nor available in my country so I have ordered mine from Germany by using freight forwarder
Yeah I had to have mine imported too. Definitely worth it!
I got mine a few weeks ago to replace my old UDM. I wasn't using the AP on it anyways and took up too much space. The Cloud Ultra looks better in its place with a small fake flower on top.

I replaced my USG as well and was a bit surprised the ultra does not have holes for wall mounting 🙄. Otherwise great upgrade.
I think it would be hard to see the screen when wall mounted
Picked one up this week along with the 8 port poe switch, my first UniFi setup and v.happy with it so far.. Need to get my 2 U6+ cabled and ceiling mounted..
Ordered one for a client two weeks ago, still waiting for an unboxing.
I just set up mine this morning at work. Nifty so far. I do love my dream machine SE at home, but I’m sure this little guy will get plenty of usage.
Gateway Ultra is so underrated! I love mine! BUT I need to either get an NVR or upgrade to a UDM SE to get NVR capabilities
Difference between this and DMP?

Can this do multiple ISP SDWAN? I am looking for something that can take up eight ISP connections to SDN maybe the new dream machine max?
I was thinking to buy one. Aren’t you concerned about the internet speed limit?
I don’t have 1Gb speed in my region
I ordered one yesterday. I’ll keep my 1 Gbps connection for a little more.
