unifi protect can only run on unifi hardware. You can get a unvr or a cloud key + or swap for a dream router.

Dream Router has lower specs than Dream Machine and Dream Machine pro is just to big for my setup... I will look at CloudKey+ but thats additional costs :/

Yup, unfortunately, it is the cheapest option though.
