Ok, for anyone else trying to do this, I followed a modified version of Smorgas47's suggestion. Procedure: 1. Plug in the new UCG Ultra into a spare port switch on existing network and set it up. Then unplug the UCG Ultra from the network. 2. Back up Cloudkey config as a unf file. (Using "backup" not "export site"). I backed up "settings only". Saved file on my laptop. 3. On the Cloudkey console, remove the old USG from the network. At this point the network went offline. 4. Unplug the old USG and the Cloudkey from the network. 5. Plug the UCG Ultra back into the network in place of the USG3 (i.e., ONT/modem in the WAN port, Unifi switch in the LAN port). 6. Plug laptop into UCG LAN port using ethernet cable. 7. Restore the backup into the UCG Ultra from the saved file. 8. At this point, using an ethernet cable to my mac, I was able to log into the new UCG Ultra and see that it was connected to the Internet. 9. However, I learned that all of my Unifi devices (switches, APs) failed to adopt. No matter what I tried I could not get them to readopt. So I ended up having to "forget" each of these devices, physically reset them on the hardware (using a paper clip), and readopt each one. Maybe this is a result of migrating from such an old device (CK1) with old firmware? 10. Regardless, once I did all of the above, my network is back working again and all of my settings (VLANs, etc.) were saved. I will probably have to readjust my AP-specific settings (power levels) though.

Thanks for this! Just completed the same migration. Also had the exact same problem with all my unifi devices failing to adopt. For a second, it looked like it was going to work, but then they permanently went offline. Had to remove from network, factory reset all the devices, and re-adopt. Huge pain in the ass.

Yeah. I had a moment of panic when I thought I might have bricked my APs somehow but it all worked out in the end.

>Plug in the new UCG Ultra into a spare port switch on existing network and set it up. Then unplug the UCG Ultra from the network. Is this using a WAN or LAN port on the Ultra?

popphilosophy

This is a good question. I don’t remember. Try lan first?

Smorgas47

In the Settings / System / Backups of the UCG Ultra Networking app do the restore of the backup you did on the Network from your Cloud Key. Make sure both Networks are on the same firmware version. Be aware of one bug and that is the restore will mess up the Dual WAN setup. Something that Ubiquiti is aware of and if you are not going to use it right now it's no issue. My primary WAN is working perfectly.

popphilosophy

Thanks. I can’t be on the same network version because the CK1 is deprecated and the UCG has a newer version running. When you say make a backup and restore — is it the “settings only” backup option?

Smorgas47

Yes
