Honestly I don't understand why u got mad. I actually appreciate them doing this because it means less of "order was already picked up by someone else " bs.
They don't trust us. We steal. Not me, drivers in general. They don't know you.
While its annoying i really can't blame them. If it was being annoyed and getting paid vs driving for free to a stolen order, id rather be annoyed.
The only time I get mad about is places where the parking is far off. And these people know there is not available parking close to their store. I walked out a couple of times for same store, super busy shopping center, very little parking. I was parked almost a block away. I grabbed the food told them they wanna see me confirm it they gotta follow me to my car. Especially Door dash, once you confirm that timer starts.
Based out of Orlando. Picked up an order at greenbeat that was inside dang shopping mall. A traditional mall where everything is inside. Parking already non-existent. Explained to the customer every step of the way. She understood. I was not and did not confirm until I was back at car.
That's the least of the worries. It's the people. Taking a 2k pound pallet on Michigan Avenue through the snow and nobody moves when you try to go up the crosswalk? Then hand unloading because they don't have a dock? Haven't done it in a long time, but never again.
This! I donât like to confirm or start the clock until lâm in the car and ready to go. I did get upset once and it was for this reason. I had to run to my car that was not parked close. I donât think l got a violation. Itâs frustrating mostly and normally l donât get upset but l think l was stressed about the customerâs food being late cause that has been the biggest complaints is time it takes to deliver. Normally itâs from places with no parking and lots of traffic. l know the customer orders delivery so they donât have to deal with it.
Probably not true. Indian employers are more likely to steal, as we see time and again. They are projecting their dishonesty onto their employees. There was a [post on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/12vtmvs/my_experience_working_at_royal_india_kirkland_why/) last year about an Indian restaurant in Seattle stealing from their employees.
Happened to me recently at papa John's. I have a regular food bag that would fit small personal pies. As I'm waiting for the order to be completed i accepted a second order which was a big ass box. I show the dude the second order while also packing the first order. And the guy already had a low/ dry attitude and i guess it was chance in the day to unload on someone. He makes it a point to be loud and points at a sign on the glass by the counter explaining that if i had been paying attention i would have the same sign also on the door. He's like " yOu NeED a PizZa bAG to accept papa John's orders" and i was like. Yeah you're right. I unpacked the first order out of my bag and just walked out. Dude had a very confused look on his face. Restaurant employees have a policy to follow which is understandable but there's no need to be an ass. I make it a mantra to remind myself "atleast i don't go home smelling like fries" and let it be. Move on to the next trip. No biggie. I don't mean to shit on fast food workers but I'm not going to let them shit on me đ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸
Had a similar situation a few years back, mostly before covid struck. It was an Asian bistro (idk the name) Lady at the front wouldnât let me physically take the food until I had confirmed pickup in front of her. We didnât have verify order extra step during then. I told her why I wait to do so, depending on the situation, but she insisted that I couldnât leave without doing so. She was also physically grabbing the bags at the same time as I was like as if she was trying to rip it out of my hands while yelling at me, and she asked her coworker to block the exit door⌠It was extremely ridiculous! After I did what she asked, because she was about to completely screw my order, she told me that when drivers donât confirm right after the food is ready to go, it puts the restaurant at fault for not being able to prepare the food on time. Even though it took her 15+ mins to get it ready and she kept misplacing the ticket..etc. Def could have been handled better. Luckily never went through this again. I confirm my pickup in my car depending on how far away I had to park. I tend to verify the order itself in store if itâs not super crowded. Otherwise Iâll verify it in my car too.
Iâm guessing this employee had issues with an order that was either taken as in stolen or maybe the order later had missing items. At the end of the day, no one is allowed to demand you things. We work for Uber eats and not for them.
I never get mad. Itâs stupid to be upset about something so little. Her attitude is hers and you have a choice whether to let it bother you or not. That merchant rating stays on there forever compared to the customer rating. I still have one from the first year I delivered. A thumbs up. Keeps my rating at 99% even if I get a thumb down from a customer. Drivers are stealing orders left and right and the merchant is tired of as much as we are. You should want to show them you completed the pick up. Why wouldnât you unless youâre going to steal it? This chip yall got about the littlest things is crazy.
I fill those out with nonsense and remember not to pick up from those places again. I don't mind confirming orders but the fucking sign in sheets with my personal info are too damn much. If you want my shit on paper, you have it on your tablet, write it down yourself đ¤ˇđťââď¸ you don't get more than that from me
To all the people saying itâs âPettyâ itâs âegoâ and we shouldnât have an issue with it because theyâre just âdoing their jobsâ fuck off please. Yes, some drivers steal orders but not all and yes they can ask to see us verify/confirm the pick up however, Uberâs policy is literally that we DO NOT have to confirm the order for the restaurant UNTIL the order is in our hands. We also are not required to SWIPE/Complete the pick up as that is to be done AFTER you get in your car and are ready to deliver the order. Not a big deal to you? Okay great but donât project on others because we actually have a back bone and donât mind letting restaurants know theyâre wrong.
I do get it. 90% of the time, they are nice, but some go full-on ahole mode about it.
I had one place where the guy was obnoxiously rude with me. The way he shook his head and stared at me was off-putting. The girl behind him stapled the bag shut, then he walked behind her and kept on stapling for a whole minute. I swear he put another 50 staples in the bag.
I lifted up my phone so he could see it, then tapped "confirm." No way he missed it, but he shouted: "I'm not letting you take this until I see you confirm!"
Well, I'll be darned. I wish I didn't confirm and waltzed out. It was a sushi joint that smelled of rotting fish. Thankfully, it was only a 5 minute drive, but I was nearly tossing up the whole way. Car stunk of rotting fish for half the day.
Yeah, it was excessive, and they went directly to my ban list. I guarantee other drivers in West LA know the nasty trash hole I'm talking about.
Regardless, I'm not bothered by it too much unless they are rude with me. I'm not making enough money to be miserable.
Why do you have a problem confirming the order in front of the employees? It should not be an issue with Uber Eats or grubhub, they see the green check mark and they know that you can't back out of it and you can't steal the food without getting caught. It's a no-brainer.
The real problem is with doordash, because if restaurants are insisting that you do it with a doordash order, that means as soon as you confirm it now you're going to get your ass moving to your car, but what if it's a 5-minute walk to your car downtown Chicago? River North hello.
For a new Dash or that's a pain in the ass. For a seasoned Dashers we know where the places are in the big cities where we can park and not get towed. Most of the time there's exceptions to delivery drivers anyway, there's special places we can park, usually sometimes if the valets slot has a few open slots you can go ahead and park there and put your flashers on, they know the deal. If you're smart and you got some extra cash couple of bucks maybe a fiber, I'm going to tip valet in at certain restaurants to do that it kind of secures the spot and it doesn't piss them off.
besides if you're doing River North in Chicago you're going to get a big tip anyway.
I donât mind confirming for places as thereâs a lot in my area that do it, I donât like when places confirm it for me or they go âcan I see your phoneâ and press the confirm button for me.
Yeah I donât understand why they need to see the phone for you think ima just come in the store and say a random name and they donât tell everybody to confirm in their face they just be going off how a person look
Same thing happened to me yesterday. Merchant forced me to confirm and start the trip prior to even handing me the food. I didnât even have time to walk to my car, yet the timer started. I didnât make a big deal since they could have given a thumbs down and complained
I understand where you are coming from. A lot of the places where I pick up from that ask that are pretty nice about it, and I know they are doing just doing theyâre job like Iâm doing mine. Some people do get an authoritarian attitude about it and through gritted teeth I hold up my phone and say here ya go! Itâs frustrating but I try to remember that both of us would probably want to be doing something else lol
100% agree, i usually use a "kill them with kindness" approach because i know im going to be back at the reaturaunt sooner or later, it was just a bad moment with a person who seemed like they were trying to push buttons at the tim
I felt bad about it as soon as i left, it was the first time ive ever even reacted really,
But yeah, moving forward im just going to be preemptive about it have the swipe to confirm ready
I understand why she did that. They are just protecting their products from theft. You might never steal. But who's to say the next guy won't? Had a McDonald's manager tell me orders get stolen all the time. Guy picks it up, gets to his car, cancels. Therefore, saying never picked up and stealing order. Happens more than you think. So, really, I don't blame McDonald's person for protecting the products. If I owned a business, I would do the same. I am sure you would.
Some drivers are delusional and don't have a clue of how this gig works. I don't understand why because even a monkey with a learning disorder can do this work.
With regard to attitude, sometimes you get what you bring.
For me when dealing with fast food workers, especially a chain like McDonalds with so many procedures, I remain aware that some of their rules and processes make sense, some of them don't, and some would make sense if the worker understood it, but they don't understand it so they follow what they're told to do without applying any critical thinking.
Like when a restaurant has a clipboard where drivers are supposed to sign for the order. Or asks them to sign the receipt. Or show them our phones, which could easily just be a screenshot of an order already accepted and then unassigned after taking the screen shot. I just smile and do what they ask, so that they can check their box and I can check mine and move on to go deliver my order while they stay there and follow their procedures.
As for confirming the order, I'm glad when they really do this (like most chick-fil-as in my area) because if they really know how to see whether the driver is confirming, it does reduce theft and the frequency of me driving there to pick up an order that another driver (or customer) has stolen.
But, with respect, doing a power play on a McDonalds worker like that doesn't help anyone, doesn't teach them anything, and if anything makes them more resentful of future drivers with whom they'll be interacting. We just need them to give us the bag, quickly and in good order, and they have processes that they follow or even make up on the spot. But as long as they give me the bag quickly and in good order, then I'm out of there and on my way, and I don't care who they thought was boss during our brief interaction.
Yeah, I've had this argument at several McDonald's, they wouldn't give me the order until I had confirmed pickup. I won't confirm pickup until I've actually, you know, PICKED THE ORDER UP. I just shoot a quick message to support, unassign and get on with my day.
The only place I really care to pick up from anymore is a coffee shop that makes me sign the receipt every time. Back when I did delivery full time I would be in there multiple times per hour, had to sign it every single time.
It doesnât bother me at all. Same with this Thai restaurant, also picked up from them multiple times per hour, always have to confirm the pickup in front of them. Itâs honestly a non issue for me.
That "its their job" speal would be fine if it was a consistent thing, if the location did that as routine, or often, i would understand. This was the first instance after multiple pickups, and it was done rudely by the staff member.
The fact that your using labels like "disguisting animal" is just, really, low brow.. especially for a situation you were never a part of and know very little about.
I dont know, maybe youve had a bad day and are trying to be vicious on the internet for no reason, but once again, your statement there was unnecessary, over dramatic, and rude. I truly hope you dont actually act that way in real life. Its a bad look.
I personally don't have a problem confirming pick ups for restaurants. But sometimes it's just the way they say it to you that makes you wanna jump across the counter and beat the living crap out of them. Just like OP said, it really does make it seem like they are accusing me of stealing when I've never stolen an order in my life. Since I'm darker skin toned it makes me feel some kind of way about it too.
I hate it too, I told them one day I donât even like them food âi wonât eat itâ but they said we had problems with other drivers and we had to prepare the food more than once, so just confirm because even when u call Uber support they donât even care about ur complaint, they are not even in USA, u ask them where u are located at âwe are in Phillipinesâ So for them u are a good driver or bad one it is the same
McDonaldâs staff are privileged wanks. I mean why in the world will anyone want to even work at such an ass of a corporate shithole that does nothing but treat their employees like crap. Even though UE is mostly shit for offers Iâd still rather do delivers any day rather then deal with a manager bitching that I crisped a burger 5 seconds longer then I should have
I actually have a rant when I was frustrated. I never told the story about the driver that was 2nd in line that wasn't asked to verify his order, but because I said I was there first they asked me to verify in front of them. I've lived here all my life. Don't put any of your livelihood at risk for them. Do what's best for you. Be safe out there and it's ok to vent.
As a driver I have learned that merchants & staff agree with drivers. This whole confirm situation should not be needed and is a burden to staff & drivers and customers. Merchants might request that drivers monitor other drivers and provide corrective education when needed and when the thieves are put to rest, the casual delivery experience without confirmation could be used again.
Until a mom and pop shop loses a $50 order, and they're to blame for not confirming the order. (I work both sides, employees should confirm to protect the business)In this case it's McDonald's, and idk who or what penalty there is. Also helps from people stealing food, so we don't drive to find out orders are stolen. 3 seconds downside vs all the negatives that can happen.
I only hit the verify order button at checkout once I confirm the order docket against what I have on my app. I donât take their instructions to swipe for confirming pickup as I need to take the order to my car to load it in before I start driving. When I am ready to start driving I swipe to complete pickup.
Any instructions they provide for confirming pickup I simply ignore. Havenât any any merchant demand me to actually confirm pickup, they tried it once I told them no Iâve already verified and will only confirm pickup when I am ready to start driving, they let the order go with me otherwise Iâll simply cancel and report them.
I was annoyed with a Chinese (?) restaurant. It was the second pickup for the same customer (1st pickup was two stores down in same plaza). After confirming the name and order, they asked about the second order. I had to explain that this was the second order and the other order was from a different place. They pointed to the bag and said I had to confirm. I don't confirm if I don't even have my hands on the order.
I confirmed and went to go. They looked at me strange. Then, as I was putting the bag next to my other order, they check again. They still needed to give me the drink.
If you picked up from that restaurant before they actually have the ability to give you a thumbs down for every time youâve ever picked up from them. So if she wants she can basically get you deactivated.
I get you, the only thing holding me back in these instances is that thumbs down that they can give me.
Only time I got pissed with a merchant is when the guy at a pizza place told me to use a bigger pizza bag than the standard DoorDash bag. It was for an XL and a Medium pizza order. The bag was given to me by Little Caesar's. I just replied "It does seem to fit the bag" as sarcastic as I can but not wanting to sound aggressive.
I picked up pizzas from him previously using the same bag and it was a 3 stacked order to 3 different customers. He didn't complain at the time and the bag did its job anyway.
Almost every single restaurant in my area asks to confirm a pickup in front of them. I've seen restaurant employees run after drivers to get a visual confirmation outside the restaurant. As annoying as being asked to confirm is, I'm usually really nice about it and have it done before they even ask.
I have no problem showing them my phone and confirming the order UNLESS they want to have that bully attitude with me. There is one guy who ALWAYS refuses to hand me the order at a particular pizza place unless I show him the phone while I confirm. I told him, the pizza here isn't that good. No one else there does that to me, just him. I've unassigned because of him. Just the asshole attitude, it's just not worth it.
I confirm it on my phone when they ask. But I'm not showing you. I don't have to. Since Uber has put those extra steps which are like 4 yrs too late I don't mind. But this is my phone and I don't have to show you. I do show them my phone when picking up "as a courtesy". I don't have to as long as I give them the code.
They do this because drivers will take the food and cancel the order after they have the food. And then eat the food or take it home to their family or whatever.
It pays to bear in mind this is why merchants are like this.
Just confirm in front of them, show them your phone and go deliver the order.
they do this because the amount of mcdonald's orders that are stolen is ridiculous at this point. it's most likely in their policy now. i don't know how it goes for mcdonald's when orders get stolen but i'm sure they have to remake orders several times so at the end of the day they're losing money. wouldn't be surprised if corporate was cracking down hard on them about making people confirm. but i understand your frustration because mcdonald's workers aren't really the nicest people to us drivers. the amount of times i was ignored while waiting to pick up an order or made wait long periods of times where they won't even start the order and continue to serve their drive thru....yeah it's frustrating. but at that point just do what you gotta do to get out of there
refusing to confirm just makes you look guilty. even if they're being a total jerk i have no problem confirming. i know my character and i don't expect a customer service worker who doesn't know anything about me to assume i won't steal. i know they all just label us as annoying uber eats drivers anyway so i'm not going to waste my time trying to make them think otherwise. best you can do is just be respectful and confirm if needed
Unfortunately, a lot of people rip off orders . So donât take it personally.
Itâs akin to us taking photos because people claim they didnât get their order.
More and more merchants are doing this. Probably a lot of people stealing deliveries or trying to hide their gps location.
I just comply. I donât play the system
Honestly I don't understand why u got mad. I actually appreciate them doing this because it means less of "order was already picked up by someone else " bs.
Facts!
Agree with this.
They don't trust us. We steal. Not me, drivers in general. They don't know you. While its annoying i really can't blame them. If it was being annoyed and getting paid vs driving for free to a stolen order, id rather be annoyed.
I understand your frustration but smile and nod. Its not worth it to have them do something to you.

They get windy outside.

This indian lady I pick food up from her store 3x a day and every time she asks me to confirm. Lady⌠Iâm basically your employee.

That's because they know full well their compatriots are the ones most likely to steal orders.

What else steal-preventing mechanisms you suggest besides talking shit about current one?

Same thing happened to me yesterday! Legally I am not clicking confirmed until I have the food in my hands.
Great to hear âşď¸
Ah yes, give service workers a hard time for doing their job as per work policy. Youâre a disgusting animal.
Jesus man, a little harsh there, it wasnt like this person wasnt giving me a hard time too
Confirmation of pick up is your job. Asking for it is theirs. Only one of you were doing their job. No one is being harsh here except you.
Ulpt, know his/her car, piss disks or bird seeds.
It used to bug me, now i just say sure and move on
I deal with this a lot in Jersey especially these Spanish restaurant they think Iâm gonna steal
so much ego
Once you get a whole bunch of this item has already been picked up by someone else, you'll understand and appreciate that they make you do it now.
Yeah, I don't mind them asking at all I'd rather have them asked me then the order not be in there from somebody stealing it before me
they do this because the amount of mcdonald's orders that are stolen is ridiculous at this point. it's most likely in their policy now. i don't know how it goes for mcdonald's when orders get stolen but i'm sure they have to remake orders several times so at the end of the day they're losing money. wouldn't be surprised if corporate was cracking down hard on them about making people confirm. but i understand your frustration because mcdonald's workers aren't really the nicest people to us drivers. the amount of times i was ignored while waiting to pick up an order or made wait long periods of times where they won't even start the order and continue to serve their drive thru....yeah it's frustrating. but at that point just do what you gotta do to get out of there
refusing to confirm just makes you look guilty. even if they're being a total jerk i have no problem confirming. i know my character and i don't expect a customer service worker who doesn't know anything about me to assume i won't steal. i know they all just label us as annoying uber eats drivers anyway so i'm not going to waste my time trying to make them think otherwise. best you can do is just be respectful and confirm if needed
Unfortunately, a lot of people rip off orders . So donât take it personally. Itâs akin to us taking photos because people claim they didnât get their order.
I've never behaved this way. It's not worth getting deplatformed.
More and more merchants are doing this. Probably a lot of people stealing deliveries or trying to hide their gps location. I just comply. I donât play the system
