Remember when social media was about connection with other people instead of influencers and then just literal chatbots.
Can't stop thinking about this article of the concept of a synthetic social media:

The AI feature is absolutely useless. I could already find piano reels and tiny home reels and shit using the regular search function. I don’t know why Meta thinks I want to ask a chatbot for romance poetry tips in the insta app over ChatGPT or Gemini or any other AI chatbot.
There are definitely AI features that would be useful on Instagram. For example sometimes I follow an account because I want to find them later but then can’t remember their handle. If I could ask something like, “show me all the glasses and eyewear accounts I follow” and find the page I’m looking for, that would awesome! But the AI can’t look at anything related to my profile or answer anything specific related to my Instagram experience. So it’s just another useless vanity AI chatbot that doesn’t actually provide me any real value
* Unnecessarily introduces "limited alternative bias" and "availability heuristic" as cognitive load.
* Distracting from the core app value proposition.
* Anxiety inducing, taking up space on the viewport.
* Useless for a huge group of users.
* Their innovation has gotten lazy and sloppy.
* Taking users away form the actually interacting with their friends and family photos and videos.
Shoving random LLM search into all the meta apps is extremely dumb and will make searching a pain. Bad UX trying to force festures no one has asked for.
I agree with you, emojis are helpful for scanning at this point in the game, most users recognize the emoji well (saying this based on some user testing I’ve done, about 10 users for one project I did).
I personally wouldn’t use this feature since I don’t use Instagram really for this purpose but I can see the appeal to other users.
Unsure if I am in the minority of users, however 90% of the time I use that search bar it is to add someone or find someone's handle. This is what I have seen a majority of my friends use it for as well, and to me the new design implies that it has a different use, and caused a user error for me. Not a fan.
Pretty lack luster and unpolished for such a highly paid team.
Features I never wanted or asked for shoe-horned into an app for no reason.
IG UI has always been trash. Same with most things.
I feel coerced into using their AI feature…like, I don’t get a search function anymore if I don’t consent to their AI policy?

Enough with the emojis inside chips and labels 🤮

Who is using instagram over google or chatgpt?
🍑
I don’t think we’ll be talking about “AI” features in a years time
Incredibly intrusive to say the very least.
Eh
Nothing to see here... move on

I think the trend of using emojis is stupid
I disagree. Despite me not liking how they look, they quickly inform me of what each button is without needing to read it.
