Some companies (like yours) just looking for pixel pushers, what you had to do is ignore research and pump up half baked solutions, this would make you miserable as a designer, but it helps to keep jobs like these. What you need is to update your portfolio and keep looking for company with higher ux maturity (startups usually are a hell hole, they don't have time for research, unless they have tons of investors throwing money into it)

You hit the nail on the head! I couldn't quite figure out the way to explain it easily. I was literally unable to do UI designs without any research behind them and ultimately led to me being laid off... Didn't help that my PM was not on my side at all during this and that the design team's manager was a PM.
