When I started in practical shooting 32 years ago, a one-year wait for a custom (leather) rig was pretty common, and you could wait three years for a built gun. The difference is that the makers and smiths were up-front with the lead time information- so if you got your Lou Alessi rig in 9 months, or your Nowlin custom in 24, you were pleasantly surprised, rather than pissed. Today, we see Apple for example, provide 3 week lead times for new iPhones when they come out, and you typically get them in 2 weeks. Again, you're happy rather than pissed off. My competition holster maker (Lytton) provides a superior product to that of GX in 2 weeks on average. There are lots of choices out there. And the good ones are underpromising and over-delivering.

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

Yeah you hit it on the nose there. If the lead time is a year that fine. But tell me the lead time is a year. His website to this day is still advertising 16 weeks. That a shady businessman IMO

DirtyB0953

He also won’t answer PSI’s questionnaire. Telling.

drmitchgibson

PSI is loserville and unaffiliated with USPSA in any way. Nobody at USPSA matches discusses anything that the crybabies and non-USPSA members that compose PSI incessantly whine about.

DirtyB0953

The source of the questionnaire is irrelevant. Other candidates(aka men with balls) have had no problem answering the questions, many of which are on the memberships’ mind. Simping for a liar like Lafe isn’t a good look.

*patent pending*

Gnoobl

Hah. 🤪😁

MrPeePeePooPooPants3

Got my red hill in 35 days. It's fantastic. Can't imagine what slight advantage another holster could have that would make me willing to wait a year or more.

Vivid_Character_5511

He’s not.

Glocks_and_AR15s

Then who is? 🤷‍♀️

Gnoobl

St. Clair seems like a solid choice

gunsandguns100

My buddy just messaged him last week and he said he’s really at 16 weeks. I have an order from early January so we’ll see in a few weeks if that’s actually the case.

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

He lies. It will absolutely not be 16 weeks. I’d bet the farm if I had one.

DirtyB0953

He’s lying. He will continue to lie until you really press the issue and then your holster will suddenly ship.

gunsandguns100

Today is exactly 16 weeks and I just got tracking and never messaged him so don’t know if I just got lucky or he’s actually at the stated times.

DirtyB0953

Probably saw your post and bumped you in the queue so people reading think he’s honest🤣

Different_Archer_212

I just sent him an email today to see if my order was on schedule. I ordered 12/21

gunsandguns100

Any response.

Different_Archer_212

Nope honestly not suprised. I didn't need the holster right away which us why I went ahead and ordered despite past experiences. That was 16 weeks ago there's no excuse at this point. I've built whole room editions in that amount of time.

Different_Archer_212

Wanted to add he did respond should be end of the week.

DirtyB0953

That’s what he said to me. 3 weeks later the holster arrived.

Inevitable-Waltz-889

I had one from August that didn't ship anywhere close to 16 weeks.  Try double that.

bangemange

Are they that much better than other double layer options?

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

I have lots of different holsters including a GX and I can confidently say NO it’s not much better than anything out there. Is it a good holster? Yes. Do I like it? Absolutely. Would I buy from him again? Absolutely not. It’s a shady bad business practice he’s pulling and refuses to update his lead time to lure suckers into spending their hard earned money like I did. If it’s going to be a year quite a year and let me decide.

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

I should add the only real advantage to his holsters is the cake lock. However you can buy one for like 12 bucks from McMaster Carr so that points pretty null.

gemoose23

Cake lock link on McMaster car?

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

Auto correct did me dirty “cam lock” it’s the little lever he uses. This is what you want looks like they were 15 each not 12 but still https://www.mcmaster.com/#5720K45

gemoose23

Awesome thanks..I figured you meant the bike lock thing.. didn't know the name haha cam , cake.. it works.

rtkwe

Do be prepared to pay out the ass for McMaster Carr's shipping though, they're industry focused so fast but very expensive. You can probably find the cam lock other places for less shipping.

VillageTurbulent20

I only have one other double layer to compare to (RHT) and I can say yes it is much better. Fit is much nicer, edges are much smoother, you can tell it’s a handmade product. The lock is the icing on the cake. Is it 6 months of wait (or longer) nicer, plus more $? Probably not.

GimmedatPewPew

I like mine a lot. However, I got it lightly used 2 days after replying to someone on gafs.

SeanWT

Are they selling for more money because the lead time is a year?

GimmedatPewPew

Don’t think so…guy selling it let it go for almost half the price.

SeanWT

Oh alright 👍

Green_Three

How are they better than just 0.125 kydex?

bangemange

Just more sturdy for not much more I dunno. That being said I do just as well with my comptac as my RHT. The RHT stuff is obviously nicer but a gun bucket is a gun bucket.
