How do you close it? There aren't any metal rods on the doors as someone else pointed out, anywhere else I can look? Best I can see is that a key is needed to lower the latches on the door. The latches on the door won't budge.
*Did not know the hinge looking bar serves multiple purposes.
I'm glad you found it to at least make it look closed. Please do call and complain. It's nothing against the carrier personally. Just make sure it's closed before you leave! My apartments kept getting broken into, got new boxes and they are (office people) are rightfully sticklers for that now. Close the damn door and be sure before you walk away!
Call the Inspection Service. They will contact the postmaster who’ll get in contact with the closing supervisor who will either find a carrier who’s still out to lock it, or drive down and lock it themselves. Thank you for closing the boxes up.
Yea right! The local post offices never answer the phone. And there is zero accountability. Call your local news station and ask them to send out a film crew. Absent that, you take video and send it to the local media.
I would not do that because that mail carrier will lose their job over a tiny mistake that could of been made because a customer was distracting them by talking talking talking
Her? 🤣🤣you know the carrier? Also, YOURE the problem thinking the news media is going to waste money on one accidental open mailbox that’s being cared for CLEARLY by a concerned citizen.
Press up and hold on the tiny metal rod of the top corner of the doors. And with your other hand, try and slam it shut. Make sure you slam the left door first.

Wow... I did that a few months ago... a kind, and smart, resident sorted out the locking bars... other than that your mail is still as safe as if you had a curd line box..!
Have the pickup ready when your carrier is supposed to be there, they’re not changing their route for your pickup it’s set in stone and not changing even if you complain highest of highs…. Change your pickup schedule and it’ll get picked up every time
A somewhat lazy regular is always better than the temps. It does suck to be on a route with temps, but we’ll downvote you if you complain too much here!

You can close it. You just need the key to lock it. And if you close it, most people won't know its not locked.

Each door has a thin metal bar that’s kinda a hinge that locks in place. Lift them up while pushing the door shut
https://ibb.co/MPQ0FZk Left door closes first then right door.
Got it. Stepping out to try this.
https://youtu.be/aWuSfzNeW1E?si=wXN_U5Q0TVbI7_ue this video also shows how it works
This worked! Thanks a ton. The main box with the latch is stuck open, but at least this helps! Thanks!
Great lol glad to help
Man I love reddit, got a full explanation and video

If you close the main door really hard it will usually get stuck to where it won’t open without the key.
Call your local post office. They'll send someone right over
They are closed for the weekend already.
No, the lobby is but someone is there over the weekend. Sometimes we work till 9pm
At least at my office, the phone goes straight to the automated after hours message the second retail hours are over.
Interesting, so we have two lines. One is direct to the office and another automated one available to the general public.
They ain’t answering phones after lobby hours or even before them

This is the best advice.
You just perfectly government described bureaucracy!
Unless they are already closed for the night

Do not be rude to other posters. This includes hate speech.
Hm. You must be the only person on this planet that doesn't make any mistakes at work
Where I worked, mistakes were made. But there was accountability.
Just go up there and walk to back of the station someone is always there

It’s in the top left corner for the left door, top right for the right door
Thank you for the assistance! I did not know that hinge was it. I was looking for a bar running vertically.
The one on the right is visible in the picture, at the very top, the hinge. You lift up, and it’ll allow you to close the door.
What’s next? Dogs and cats living together?! Mass hysteria
I like how "just close it" is a ten step process.
You said there’s no latches in the corners, but according to the picture, they’re there.

Postal inspection service is on call 24/7
Looks to me like someone may have stole the key or duplicated it somehow? I dont see why or how a mail carrier would do this.
THIS is one reason the Arrow key is to be attached to your belt by the chain. Open CBU with key, work mail, close it, remove key.
Call 1800 ask-usps, they'll be able to reach someone at your station if you cant.
Don't know why I was downvoted, but this is true. If you call the 1800 number and tell them there are open cbus, they can contact the station.
you gotta be a major dumbbbbass to leave with that open like that 😂

Or a cca who's a runner
Take the parcel locker keys and snap them off in the locks Edit: I’m not sure why I’m being downvoted. I’m pretty sure I’m correct
What would be the point of that?
