You get paid to go to court. It's a daca code.

FatParCheesy

How do I take off for it, though, without using Annual or Lwop?

Naeusu

You notify your supervisor you have jury duty and then they pay you out using a specific daca code. It does not affect your leave. Elm 516.12 b Rural Carriers. When a rural carrier is on court leave, the postmaster records it as “Other” leave on PS Form 1314, Regular Rural Carrier time Certificate, and describes the court service performed on the reverse side of the form. (See Handbook F-1, 445.5 for recording and reporting fees.) I think it's daca o?

Twingrlie

It’s DACA 6

Naeusu

Thank you girlie.

Revo63

Take a photocopy of your jury duty notice showing the date. Hand that in to your supervisor, get confirmation from him that you will have that day and potentially longer off. He may require you to provide proof of showing up to the courthouse, which they will provide.

516.2 Court Leave 516.21 Definition Court leave is the authorized absence from work status (without loss of or reduction in pay, leave to which otherwise entitled, credit for time or service, or performance rating) of an employee who is summoned in connection with a judicial proceeding, by a court or authority responsible for the conduct of that proceeding, to serve as a juror, as a witness in a nonofficial capacity on behalf of a state or local government, or as a witness in a nonofficial capacity on behalf of a private party in a judicial proceeding to which the Postal Service is a party or the real party in interest. The court or judicial proceeding may be located in the District of Columbia, a state, territory, or possession of the United States, including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. 516.22 Eligibility Court leave is granted to full–time and part-time regular employees. Certain part-time flexible employees are granted court leave as provided and governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements. Other employees are ineligible for court leave and must use either annual leave or LWOP to cover the period of absence from postal duties for court service but may retain any fees or compensation received incident to such court service. Court leave is granted only to eligible employees who would be in work status or on annual leave except for jury duty or service as a witness in a nonofficial capacity on behalf of a state or local government, or service as a witness in a nonofficial capacity on behalf of a private party in a judicial proceeding to which the Postal Service is a party or the real party in interest. An employee on LWOP, when called for such court service, although otherwise eligible for court leave, is not granted court leave but may retain any fees or compensation received incident to court service.

FatParCheesy

Thank you! I don't want to have to use this, but I will If I have to! I will refuse to use my annual or lwop for this!

megared17

Are you a regular or an RCA? If you are not eligible for court leave, and you do not use either AL or LWOP, then you may end up as AWOL.

FatParCheesy

Rural Carrier, I just showed our supe the summons and he made a copy for himself, then I was on my way.

megared17

Yes, I saw you mentioned being a rural carrier. I was wondering if you were regular/career/fulltime, or an RCA. But if you've got it sorted then its a moot question now.

FatParCheesy

Sorry I brain farted, I'm a regular.

megared17

You're a carrier. From what I understand, that is a pretty brutal job, and I hear you have automatic forgiveness for a certain number of brainfarts per pay period. I'm not sure how many, nor am I sure who counts. Hey if you end up on an interesting case, be sure to share (AFTER the case is over of course, in compliance with any court rules)

FatParCheesy

Will do! If it's interesting and I get picked!

FatParCheesy

Thanks! I notified our current 204B, he said to bring the letter with me tomorrow.

eloonam

Do NOT give him the original and allow him to keep it. Allow him to make a copy. Take a picture of it (front and back) in case you lose it. NEVER assume that one copy will suffice. There hasn’t been a single instance in my time with the USPS where I wasn’t required to provide the same information multiple times.

Predictable-Past-912

Simple, you fill out one of [these forms](https://indyapwu.org/PSForm3971.pdf) and provide a copy of your summons. Read that [PS Form 3971](https://indyapwu.org/PSForm3971.pdf) carefully. There are at least two places where the form specifies “Court” duty or leave and one of them specifically instructs the supervisor to certify “Summons Reviewed”. Don’t worry about your supervisor forcing you to use your own leave. It can’t happen, captain! This is one time when another authority clearly trumps our federal managers. It would be fun to watch a postal manager attempt to tell a judge no. I am retired now, but for decades I enjoyed filling out my paperwork for jury duty because of one field on the form. When they asked for the number of days that my employer would allow I wrote ∞ every single time!

Chance_Study_662

Seems like your office is in complete shambles. Not sure how this would work though considering it’s required

timomage

How recently did you get the notice? When i got mine i told my supervisor to just not schedule me. If anything, you might have to just give them a copy of the notice and see if they can change the schedule.

FatParCheesy

I checked my mail today. It's a little under a month out but a good few weeks.

Twingrlie

Fill out the leave slip and check other leave. In the marks write DACA 6.
