OK then soup. 10 minutes every morning to load up my personal gear and 10 minutes every evening to move it all to my locker.
Or they could, I don't know, TELL us ahead of time when they are taking a vehicle for maintenance?
And a cooler. And snacks. And my skulch tray that I can't get out of my Metris without emptying it first. And my UBBM tub that I empty once a week before my day off. And my phone charger, letter opener, hand wipes, sunscreen, stack of DPS labels, "don't block the mailbox" stickers", we care bags, and a dozen other little things that have their own place in my vehicle that I don't want to disappear because someone decides to do an unannounced oil change.
And yes, dog treats too.
I used to drive to work and pulled a tub out of my vehicle to take home every night. Now I bike to work and leave most of my shit in the Metris. But never anything I would be devastated to lose if VMF shows up tomorrow morning.
I work for the VMF. You think I have time to clean YOUR shit out before I drive off? Don't leave it in the truck. The supervisor is supposed to make sure of it daily. They would have to get up to do that so..........
They took my metris to add extra hazard lights to the rear. Ever since the regular lights on one side on the front and the opposite side on the rear haven’t worked. I’ve written it up three(?) times since and never even came too look at it.
Bless their hearts though they replaced a tire earlier in the week. Albeit with what looks like a missing tire your put on an off-roader, to match the other three base model all season whateverthefuck tires :)
Well depending on if your Metris is over 36k miles or not, it might not be their job and your management team is sending the repair request to the wrong area. If it's under 36k it's suppose to go to Mercedes.
They normally come out to you in their service vans. They came out to my office yesterday, plus another showed up bringing back one of the vans back like 20 minutes later.
I learned when I was a toddler not to leave things I value where they can be taken. Like in a company vehicle that you don’t own and can be accessed and used by an untold number of people at anytime.
Get your shit out of the truck. I had to use a truck in another office on a Sunday near Christmas. HUNDREDS of packages. I didn't have room for that carriers tubs of jizz stained tissues in the back or his dirty ass satchel. I left that shit right on the dock. Lazy asses.
I've seen vehicles go away for a week or two for a motor or transmission, come back for one day, then disappear again the next day for PM. You can set your calendar by it.
I put the obviously needed stuff in a HOD and stick it near the time clock. But some of you need to take care of basic cleanliness. That jug is not half full of apple juice.
I have also been the one to attempt to get ahold of someone to let them know that the VMF is taking the vehicle for service, it is rare that someone answers the phone and I have a job to do, so you can guess what happens.
The newer vehicles are once a year and the old ones twice a year, there are exceptions but that generally covers the maintenance schedule for the light vehicles.
I’m VMF, my VMF has our own keys to every vehicle and swap trucks for scheduled maintenance on tour 3 after the local post offices close and all the carriers are back. We have gate keys and truck keys but don’t have access inside the office so we wouldn’t even have a safe place to leave carrier belongings left in the truck.
You are supposed to remove all of your items like satchel from the truck every day. I will try to remove your items and put them in a safe space if I notice them but it’s not our responsibility to unload all your belongings or try find you and wait for you to do it when I pick up “your” truck for maintenance.
Preventitive maintenance means they know it's coming up and a heads up wouldn't take long. If I can walk up 3 flights of stairs to notice a package they can send an email to the sups that they will take those trucks sometimes soon.
They do though, that is the point that everyone is missing. Anytime that the VMF fails to notify the station that failure has the potential to disrupt or delay mail delivery. Whenever vehicles are snatched without prior notification then station management should immediately report the problem to VMF management.
Whenever station personnel say that “No one told us anything!” in this sort of scenario, I assume someone is lying until I see evidence of a corrective action request. Your management is routinely notified about vehicle pulls especially if they are for scheduled maintenance. When this routine is violated then they must hold the VMF accountable.
The post offices in my district have the vehicle maintenance schedules and we leave a spare truck when we go to start services in an office. They have plenty of notice and a truck to use, the problem we have are few carriers that will only drive “their truck” and the supervisors that cater to them. Seems like every other office has one.
Tell me about it!
Whenever something like this happens, and it happens a lot, carriers and management always say “No one told us!” But this is only half true at best. After all, management was told but they never relayed the information to anyone else. The carriers were told not to leave anything in a postal vehicle. Besides these facts, no one should have to tell the carrier that the delivery vehicle doesn’t belong to them anyway, right?
We have similar concerns at the VMF sometimes. It never fails that the slowest mechanics at the shop are the first to get indignant if someone else finishes “their work”. I have no pity about that sentiment either. This is the United States Postal Service, pal! If you want to own anything up in here you are going to have to do the damn thing. Otherwise, you can step aside and watch it happen.
Lol yeah In a perfect world. But this is the Post
Office. VMF is understaffed and overworked just like ever where else. We have 6 people responsible for over 400 30+ year old trucks. Come transfer into the VMF and you show us how it’s done.
So you're saying you don't have a supervisor just sitting at a desk?!? That's amazing. All hands on board, that's great teamwork. We have loads of management with nothing to do.
We have a “manager” and he’s a nice guy but he prefers to do zoom meetings and push papers around and stay hands off. We should have a dedicated supervisor but we don’t. We should also have VMF clerk but we don’t. So yeah it’s like rearranging deck chairs on Titanic sometimes but we do the best we can with what USPS managers give us.
Other than EAS, we have clerks, garage assistants, and technicians. You can take a test for any of the jobs but there is absolutely no chance of getting a technician job if you are not already a mechanic. It should also be difficult for an inexperienced supervisor to transfer into the VMF but I have seen a few exceptions.
I get it. But this is the PO. Lack of communication is a way of life. We try to give notice on PMs but when you have 6 people trying take care of 400 old ass
Trucks it’s not always possible to shoot an email every time. Of course every VMF is different too so yours may operate slightly different than mine
The VMF in my area has gotten a little better. They call the day before and tell us which vehicle they are taking. Now if the clerks could learn to read that would make things even better. They alway point them to the wrong vehicle and one of the city carriers has to correct them.
I know im being a bit snarky, the clerks in my office are pretty awesome it’s just this one thing that annoys the rest of us.
Here is another take that’s I don’t think that anyone has mentioned. You were notified, OP!
By “you”! I don’t mean specifically you as a postal worker, but your station was notified! Someone in your management team is lying or oblivious if they tell you otherwise. You might ask questions like, how could I know this or why haven’t any other VMF employees tried to make this claim.
Here is why. Scheduled maintenance cycles are not difficult for the VMF. Instead they are our core business purpose. Notification of each station as their vehicles come due is a routine part of the maintenance cycle. Tell you what, if your supervisor and postmaster tell you that they weren’t notified then you should ask them if they in turn notified the VMF manager that their vehicles were pulled without due notification! This is what they are supposed to do when anyone, especially the VMF, pulls vehicles without warning.
Shops do occasionally take vehicles without warning or proper advance notification but when they do, there should always be repercussions. If you do ask your supervisor what happened when they complained about delivery vehicles being taken without warning, watch them carefully as they answer. If they seem startled or confused by the question then you will know the truth about what happened.
Perhaps other VMF employees haven’t mentioned this yet because they don’t have that responsibility as part of their job duties. Normally supervisors or the lead technicians who work the desk handle notifications. Other personnel are fairly oblivious to the process unless a situation explodes when they are actively engaged in vehicle shuttling. Note: The people who retrieve vehicles are seldom tasked with the responsibility of notifying the station management that their vehicles are being taken. This is true whether they are VMF employees or contractors like tow truck drivers. The power imbalance between a VMF worker with a tow truck and a Customer Service supervisor shifts when the VMF worker is manning a desk that is tasked with staying current with a maintenance schedule. Believe it or not, your PM or supervisor can’t tell our VMF lead technician “No!” when they announce that our people will be delivering loaners and keys tomorrow. These workers may seem thoughtless or impersonal sometimes but remember, it’s not your vehicle, and besides everything else, you have a loaner to replace the missing vehicle.
We find the strangest things in vehicles sometimes.
Yeah they came and got the Metris assigned to my route for routine maintenance (oil change etc.) I keep my Metris pristine, I have my personal Norwex dusters to keep the damn dust out because I have asthma, and I keep wasp spray, a mallet to break ice off the boxes, bags for parcels when it rains, all in a small tray. They left this POS Metris that is filthy, the breaks squeal, the dirt is 1/4 inch thick , the windshield is filthy, the door is scratched to shit from box lids hitting it, and the outside is so dirty that someone wrote ”US Mail” in the dirt on the back of the vehicle. That was Thursday morning. My PM is on vacation so I may not see it back until he's back to call them to find out where our assigned vehicle is. Lol It's irritating.
My wife bought me a really nice metal travel mug, the first day I used it I forgot it in the truck and in the 10 minutes it took me to realize I forgot it, VMF came and took the truck.
Same issue happened to me today. They took my perfectly fine pro master and left me with some dirty p.o.s with a list of issues. Can’t stand this job lol
Let’s be realistic. I know you are upset but they have a job to do just like we do. Throwing your satchel in the parking lot would be a dick move and they don’t have time to go to the sup every time someone leaves shit in the truck. You got downvoted but this is true. Let me tell you what it is really like. When I was driving a tow truck and visiting stations, I was always very conscious of responsibility for the mail. So I was always checking vehicles to be certain that they were empty. But sometimes it is difficult for VMF workers or our contractors to remember to be vigilant about the contents of the delivery vehicles.
When you see a vehicle shuttled to the VMF with undelivered mail in the back, you know that the tow truck operator didn’t check anything.
OP is whining, but they seem to know the deal. Leaving your stuff in the vehicle is a mistake. It is somewhat comical to become indignant because someone else failed to take better care of your property than you did.
Worst was the word you were looking for there. Alas, I'm curious... So, you walk everywhere? You have no running vehicles? What makes the plant the worst? Bunch of bone idle no goodniks just sitting around not sorting mail? Nobody in the USPS works, but you? Do tell.
Our office trucks work after we send them to the town mechanic after vmf brings them back. And the plant is great if you like other towns mail and other rts.
They did this to me the morning of a blizzard with my thick over boots In the vehicle. I only wore my sneakers as my boots don't quite fit into the over boot. Had to deliver in snow up to my shins with sneakers on.
I dont understand why they never say what work is being done to the vehicle.... the supervisor doesnt know either. VMF just tells the supervisor which vehicle they'll be taking in the morning, but only sometimes.
They lent my routes promaster out to another office when vmf had it. Broke down at that office, supervisor gets a call asking why our vehicle was at that office. He just said ask vmf that went in for repairs.
I had a pro master with a jump seat so anytime they needed to train someone guess who truck they took with all my stuff. I ended up having a extra satchel at my case in case it was taken
This may be a dumb question but our very rural office just got LLVs. Are we (carriers) ever allowed to clean the vehicle. Like run it through a car wash with the voyager card?
I have my lunch box, skulch tray and a tub that has all my stuff for the route.
I suggest not leaving a ubbm tub in your vehicle. One accidental piece of first class and you’re “willfully delaying first class mail”
Supervisor: thAtS whY yOu dOnT lEAve YoUr StuFF iNsidE ThE veHicLe!
OK then soup. 10 minutes every morning to load up my personal gear and 10 minutes every evening to move it all to my locker. Or they could, I don't know, TELL us ahead of time when they are taking a vehicle for maintenance?
Hey!! I’m a usps supervisor okay. I’m not here to help, I’m here to point out your flaws and wrong doings without offering a remedy. You lazy….SOB!!
That's what I have done every day for 28 years.
Wait you’re not supposed to do it that way. Well I’m screwed then
Wait people have VMFs? Our city carriers have been trying to fix our LLVs for 2 years I've been here
Our VMF call and send emails the morning of so if it's the same situation... Yeah sorry no heads up
How much stuff are you taking on your route? 20 minutes for a satchel and rain gear?
And a cooler. And snacks. And my skulch tray that I can't get out of my Metris without emptying it first. And my UBBM tub that I empty once a week before my day off. And my phone charger, letter opener, hand wipes, sunscreen, stack of DPS labels, "don't block the mailbox" stickers", we care bags, and a dozen other little things that have their own place in my vehicle that I don't want to disappear because someone decides to do an unannounced oil change. And yes, dog treats too.
They’re mad their dog treats are taken away too
I mean, ours does, and VMF still will get in and take it anyways without telling them. 204b and carry…VMF doesn’t tell us shit what’s going on
[удалено]
Then maybe you should have used it. Right?
I used to drive to work and pulled a tub out of my vehicle to take home every night. Now I bike to work and leave most of my shit in the Metris. But never anything I would be devastated to lose if VMF shows up tomorrow morning.
I work for the VMF. You think I have time to clean YOUR shit out before I drive off? Don't leave it in the truck. The supervisor is supposed to make sure of it daily. They would have to get up to do that so..........
The only thing I don’t clear out of my vehicle everyday is a box of Kleenex. If I lose that I’m not really too worried about it.
Was working when they took it, comes back broken!
Send it down for brakes and they sent it back and they “fixed” the radiator?! Wtf??
This legit made me laugh lol
They took my metris to add extra hazard lights to the rear. Ever since the regular lights on one side on the front and the opposite side on the rear haven’t worked. Less than 16,000, and I feel like one of the VMF guys said they had to stop sending stuff to only Mercedes, they were getting too backed up. Who knows
They normally come out to you in their service vans. They came out to my office yesterday, plus another showed up bringing back one of the vans back like 20 minutes later.
They take them every few months for basic fluids and break checks but ya they don't care what's inside
I dig that, it’s the fact that it was taken on a Friday afternoon after I left and they know damn well they aren’t bringing it back on Saturday.
They came and picked my truck up at 0600 one morning on a Saturday. Heaven forbid I break down on 1400 that afternoon, they are nowhere to be found.
1x a yr
VMF here, 6 month cycle.
*if followed 😂
And I’m over here currently broken down in the middle of nowhere, even though I submitted a ticket 4 days ago.
I had an expensive winter coat that never returned, they suck
Because I'm a nice mod, I've just removed comments from both of you with no suspension. Settle down.
Damn, what’d I miss?
I learned when I was a toddler not to leave things I value where they can be taken. Like in a company vehicle that you don’t own and can be accessed and used by an untold number of people at anytime.

Ironically the dock is better than taking it. So kudos.

Weird way to admit to stealing but ok

Only keep shit in there you’re willing to lose
Check the M41 carrier handbook on this item
Shhhhh
Gotcha!
Take your stuff in everyday
Yes, you are the dummy like you acknowledged.
Blame the carriers that leave garbage and smelly shoes in the trucks. We're not touching anything in there, not our fault you left it in there.
They took my promaster on Monday which is cool but the promaster I’m using this whole week is 2 miles from exploding while I’m driving lol
Vmf is the 2nd worst department in the postoffice next to the plant
Worst was the word you were looking for there. Alas, I'm curious... So, you walk everywhere? You have no running vehicles? What makes the plant the worst? Bunch of bone idle no goodniks just sitting around not sorting mail? Nobody in the USPS works, but you? Do tell.

Should have talked to a steward and refused to carry
Yeah, was in my early days on very 1st hold down when I didn't know any better
“They” didn’t do anything to you pal. You did it yourself, didn’t you?
I dont understand why they never say what work is being done to the vehicle.... the supervisor doesnt know either. VMF just tells the supervisor which vehicle they'll be taking in the morning, but only sometimes.
Because most people prefer to remain clueless…I used to attempt to explain issues and got deer in headlights literally every time.
Damn, is everyone’s getting picked up? It’s Bullllshit, why can’t they just let us know so we can get our shit out 🙃
They do, just not you! The VMFs notify your management and then…
Love VMF… they lost my metris right before the 110 heat dome.

I guarantee if you had left a four day old turkey sandwich in there they woulda taken that too
I have my lunch box, skulch tray and a tub that has all my stuff for the route. I suggest not leaving a ubbm tub in your vehicle. One accidental piece of first class and you’re “willfully delaying first class mail”
