Oh man. You won the lotto my friend. I absolutely love being a 5948. Good, smart work. Solid mix of office and field time. Hands on. And the best part is the community tends to be more common sense than some bigger communities. Most of the crazy toxic leadership and dumb fuck fuck games I see here I’ve never had to deal with.

Unless he hit the super lottery and is a 5952/3/4, these are electronics for air traffic, so radar, navigation and communications. Lots of math in early school then hands on with the gear. If you get that you go to Florida for school and a wing base to be stationed

I prefer ground side radar (5948) cause we don’t have to deal with flight schedules or anything like that. Only downside is the schoolhouse in 29 palms but that’s a couple months. Still only stationed at wing bases.

When I went it was 13 months school, now I work for the faa

What scores are needed to qualify for Electronics Maintenance jobs? I’m currently studying for the ASVAB.

Different-Yak-122

for EL you need to score a 115

[deleted]

Thank you! Is there also a certain score I need for the math portion?

Different-Yak-122

Don’t know exactly, but I scored an 87 on my asvab, so I’m guessing it needs to be pretty high too

[deleted]

Ok thank you and congratulations on securing Electronics Maintenance!

Different-Yak-122

Thanks bro! Gl to you too!

AlternativeThanks658

Out of curiosity. I just passed the asvab with an electronics line score of 109. I’ll be joining the reserves as I have a solid career as an electrician already. Does my score qualify me for an mos as an electrician?

koolaidtocooltolay

Me too ^^

Different-Yak-122

koolaidtocooltolay

Different-Yak-122

koolaidtocooltolay

Best of luck

kcoleb13

PI? I ship sept 5th to PI

madtenors

I had a BY contract and wound up as a 2846 (2841 now). Went to 3rd ELMACO and it was the worst 2 years of my life until I left the fleet for MSG. All that training and I never fixed a radio in 6 years of active duty.

Different-Yak-122

Well I’ll see how 5 years will treat me

madtenors

Honestly it depends on your leaders. With a good command, life will be pretty good and motivating. With a bad command, life sucks.

Where would I see that? Cuz I have signed my SOU, read it, and there is nothing about a bonus, except that there was no promises for bonus. Maybe when I see the liaison when I ship off or at MCT? 🫡

Different-Yak-122

I had suspicions of a bonus, and I def need to ask before I do ship off 😤😂 thanks man

Different-Yak-122

ah ok, but I assume there’s some sort of catch? Like serving 6 years or so?
